Erin you are great! Don't worry so much about everyone, just do you! Also when I have page that buckles II wait for it to dry then turn it over put a hand towel over it and take a warm iron over it.... it works!!!
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
That's a brilliant idea! For the record, this one went back to flat when it was dry, so no buckling. :) That's the plan - do what I like. However, if there's a common theme and something people don't like, I'd really like to know. We ALL need constructive criticism, and simply leaving a thumbs-down without saying anything isn't constructive. I'm not complaining - I'd just like to know what's making people unhappy so I can address it. :)

Erin, this video came up in my recommendations the other night and I watched it in fascination. On a whim last night I checked my local Wally World and found not only the FolkArt Extreme Glitter paint in Hologram, but also in Gold and in Sequin Black $1.97 ea.. I think I have found my new FAVORITE Art Supply! The Hologram looks great over ANY color; it reflects quite green over the dark colors but it's absolutely beautiful. My favorite though is painted right on the plain paper.. .it's got just a hint of lavender and is simply gorgeous. The GOLD is fabulous plain too.. or over warm colors (skip the Sequin Black, it's just super glossy, but not reflective or glittery ). I'm gonna save a fortune on never having to buy a glitter gel pen again.. LOL!!!

I absolutely LOVE these glitter paints, too! I have a bunch of colors, but I think the black and the hologram are my favorite. I believe I also have red, blue, and of course purple... because purple everything. Haha.

When I don’t like a video I don’t really push thumbs down button. I just kinda skip or ignore it. I can’t find anything in the videos of yours I have seen so far that would make me dislike anything. I don’t know. I think people complain too much. Lol. They take everything so seriously.
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
Hi Shannon! I'm so glad you're here and I'm even more excited that you're in the Facebook group! We have so much fun there. The only time I'll ever give someone a thumbs down is because of their attitude. I watched a video earlier this week where someone basically told people they were stupid if they preferred coloring in a certain way with a certain product. That deserved a thumbs down, and I hope others did the same. We're all here to support one another - not make people feel bad for how they choose to relax at the end of the day. In fact, I think that might be the ONLY video I've ever outright disliked. Otherwise, thanks so much! Like I always say, there are 20 or more ColorTubers out there, and we're all unique. If you don't like one, find another you do like! There's no need to watch someone's videos if you don't like their style, you know? I won't take it personally. Haha.

Simple Art for Adults wow. Thankfully I didn't watch their video. Haha. Yes exactly. I may love prismacolors and I know other people dislike them. And that is ok. You're awesome Erin, and I'm really enjoying your videos. I'm a new subbie :) This is helping me a lot, because some of the Adult coloring books with the very intricate designs are challenging for me visually speaking, as I get headaches. So seeing your technique here, might help a lot! I'm going to try this with my Creative Cats coloring book. One thing I can say about the "thumbs down" there are just some folks who go and thumbs down or give 1-2 Star Reviews (books, for example) just to be unkind. In the publishing world, we call them "Trolls". Just thought I'd throw that in there, so don't worry if you see thumbs down, it could be just some trolls who are just being mean. Keep coloring! :)
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Janet! I'm so happy you've subscribed! I really hope the technique helps... I find myself avoiding books if things are too small and intricate, but this can really help. As far as people disliking the videos, that may be true... but I did just wanted to say that if people have complaints, they're welcome to bring them to my attention.

They are very nice brushes! My main gripe about cheap brushes is the bristles falling out or fraying after the first use, but you won't have that with these. They were a bargain, and I will buy them again as needed. While I don't recommend them for fine art, of course, they work very well for something like this.

The lady I watch for mixed media is Mariam small art. I don't know if she could tell us how not to get ripples. Or maybe the frugal crafter?
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
Well, when you're using wet media, you're supposed to use paper designed for wet media and stretch it beforehand. Can't really do that in a coloring book, unfortunately, so we just have to use our wet media sparingly and then let the page dry fully.

Love your videos! And, I like that you talk through them. You don't go into personal info that has nothing to do with coloring. Usually, I MUTE videos with music because I like soft instrumentals, and most of the time people have to choose FREE music that's annoying, otherwise they get hit with copyright. I LOVE hearing your opinions. I may not agree with them, but you always explain WHY you have the opinion you have. And, since I'm not the "color-pencil-opinion-police"...it's good. Thank you SO much for taking your time during your videos. I'd rather have them longer than shorter, but again...just an opinion. Keep on posting! I'm slowly making my way through your videos learning as I go. I'm a beginner with colored pencils...so I really like how slow you take things sometimes!!! Take care.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) I do sometimes talk about personal things though... usually in color-and-chat videos I'll talk about random things going on, something funny that happened, etc. I love videos like that... feels like I'm sitting next to a friend hearing about her day while I'm working on my own page. Opinions are always welcomed here. :) I don't agree with all of them, of course, but I do respect them. I just color slow! Haha. I've found that when I really rush things, it's when I make mistakes or when things turn out in a way I didn't expect.

Are you using something behind that page? When doing groceries I compared wax paper to parchment. Something I can use under my hand. Parchment says it's waterproof. So I'm gonna give it a go for under my hand and under my picture when using gelpens. Do you only use the plastic cutting sheet from dollar tree only? Have you tried parchment?
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
I'm using a silicone cutting mat I got at Dollar Tree and cut to fit the book! It provides a hard surface. Parchment paper might work for you, but be very careful you get the kind that doesn't have any wax or anything added to it. Some do, and some don't. When I'm working with Prismas or "smeary" pencils, I put a sheet of tracing paper under my hand. Otherwise, I'll just use the cutting mat.

I liked it much better with a white background before you put the silver pencil on it. Have you tried the glitter paint by itself on a white background? I was just wondering how that would look. I use Stickles sometimes, but I think the glitter paint you used would work better on some projects. Thanks for the video!
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
I have tried it by itself. Most of these dry clear with just the glitter left behind, so it could have been cute if I would have done it alone with several layers of the paint. :D
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
Thing is, the paint isn't "holographic" really, and I knew that. It's just a green-ish glitter that reminds me of those hologram stickers we bought back in the 80s and 90s... lol. :) I thought maybe the metallic silver would make the hologram effect pop, and it does to a degree. Much easier to see it in person than on camera. I'm usually a fan of light backgrounds myself, and I prefer soft pastels to anything else. I felt the need to experiment, though, so I did. Haha.
@artbytessiejo72187 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you shared your experiment! I was always afraid of failure so I didn't use to do that, but it can be fun if I try to loosen up! After your video, I took a huge bottle of holographic glitter and added it to a ton of glue with a little water thinking I could make that work, and I put it all back in the glue bottle. I tried it this morning and only got a few flakes in the sample. I'll try to store it upside down then try it incase the glitter went to the bottom. Maybe the glitter just wouldn't come out of the tip, I don't know. I think I'll try mixing it up then applying it with a brush. I used about a cup of glitter, so much that it made a thick paste. I guess there is no substitute for the paint you used LOL.

I like it when the colorist has a running conversation and kinda talks about technique or medium or just random conversations about other colorists they talk with. I do follow a few that just have music and text and I end up muting them.

I sometimes prefer the ones without talking, but because of that music on loop, I also have to mute it. At least put different music in there or something... lol.

Hi, worst of all is where there is music and talking and you can't mute in case there is useful info and most people have their own preferences in music. So my choice woul be no music at all. I do find your tutorials very helpful and informative, thankyou.

I love the chatty type of videos and those who instruct while explaining their coloring/artistic process. I must say that I do not enjoy the speed-throughs, I don't find that helpful, but that's just me. So, I say chat away as I love it! :)
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
The speed coloring is okay with me in some cases. Like when Peta Hewitt did the background on the grasshopper (such amazing work!), she sped it up in chunks so we didn't have to sit through the entire layer of a color. Then she slowed it down when she changed colors, explained what she was doing, and sped it up again. That's just fine with me. I think speedpaints are fun to watch, too, but ONLY when they aren't considered "tutorials". It's very hard to make a proper tutorial when you're doing everything 4x faster than people would do it at home. :)

Thank you! The best part is that this stuff costs so much less than Stickles, and it lasts SO MUCH longer. :) It's just not as easy to control.

I dont care for some people doung these vedios who talk too long about their personal life.. frivolous things and repeating things over and over not related to what they are doing. On the otherrhand ienjoy and appreciate the new ideas people come up with and tbe knowledge of some of the the fine art artists.

Hi Joan! Thank you so much for your honesty and openness in your comment. It means a lot, and when people actually tell us what it is they don't like about our videos, we're in a better position to either improve what we do or help you find something you might like a little better. It's my goal to be relatable - not professional. In other words, I'm just like everyone else. I have a job, a family, kids, health issues, etc. I want the people watching my channel to know they aren't alone, that we all have lives, and that we all work hard to fit what we love into the hustle & bustle - and into our budgets. That's just who I am and what makes this entire venture fun for me. If I had to be professional in every video, I would likely stop making them. Just as there are people who don't like it when we talk about our lives, there are others who do, and they prefer it over a professionally-done video or one with nothing but music in the background. It's absolutely wonderful for you to have a preference, but just keep in mind that everyone you see on KZbin is an individual - just like you - and we're all different. The wonderful thing about KZbin is that if you don't like the way one person does things, you might like the way someone else does them, instead. If you're interested in learning without so much chit-chat, I'd suggest watching Coloring Bliss (Jennifer is WONDERFUL!), Peta Hewitt, Pam Proctor, The Frugal Crafter (though she does a lot of things besides coloring, I've learned a great deal from her) and others. If you just want to watch someone color a page to music and relax, you might try Julie's Passion for Coloring, Chris Cheng, or Shirley XL. Y. Hope this helps, Joan! Happy coloring!

I'm gonna date myself but my favorite part of the day is when I had the day off and the kids came home. the 1st question was what sucked about today. And teach me your favorite part of your day. They're grown and gone now and I miss that.🐕
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
What sucked about today? Hmmmm... well, it was one of those days where everything felt like it was at least twice as difficult as it should have been, to start. My favorite part of the day is early in the morning before anyone else wakes up! It's my time for peace, quiet, and of course... COFFEE! Mine will be grown soon, too... it's just crazy how fast they go from infants to adults.

That turned out beautiful. I like using the hologram extreme glitter but some of the other colors I have tried have larger flecks of glitter and ends up looking blobbed on. I love your color choices for the flowers. I may have to try that. Watching these videos is helping me get out of my color rut.
@SimpleArtforAdults7 жыл бұрын
Good afternoon! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos - and I 100% agree! The Hologram color is my favorite from that entire Folk Art Extreme Glitter line. I'm now glad I wound up with a giant bottle I couldn't send via USPS. Hehe.

I like the video except when the artist takes so long doing one thing for thirty minutes. I rather see several techniques in that same time.
