I've been doing this for almost 30 years, NICE job. I use HPC masterkey software because I do LARGE accounts Gov't buildings, school districts etc. that require a little more advanced needs and the ability to keep track of keys & cuts.

Uriah this was Awesome! I have done a couple of master key jobs( successfully 😅)but still struggle with the whole thing. This was a very informative system you mapped out. Thanks! ( ps..ya, you don’t need the background music, you are a great instructor stand alone.

Great video, great job of explaining it, I’m trying to learn how to rekey cylinders for my work, we have all the stuff to do it, the guy that use to know how to do it no longer works there so people just goto the local locksmith, but it would be great if I could just do it my self

Do you know of any automated systems that can run all these calculations for you to save on time? Thanks for the vid, very informative as always!
Awesome explanation Uriah! P.S. How do you feel about masterkey software like Masterking or Aerokey?

how would you go about if all 20 of the keys + the master needed to open an outside door into the office? would you just require them to have 2 separate keys? one for the office and one for the front door?
@GuardianSafeAndLock Жыл бұрын
That’s a long answer but in general you don’t want to do that on exterior doors bc then you’ll basically have a cylinder full of master two pins and all kinds of possibilities will open that lock.

Ima big fan of the channel. But the lighting and mic could be better. The background music is also offsetting.

If you are going to need only 20 change keys then why would you write a system for thousands of changes?
@assakesomanlockman71792 жыл бұрын
Glenn, I could give you a good example of why to do this. You would not want to Block yourself into a corner by not having enough future expansion room. There have been a number of times I created smaller key systems for clients, not looking like much more keying would be required in the future. Dead Wrong! Those same clients returned with plans to expand in great detail. From new ground up buildings to wanting to add additional facilities they owned to the key system. If you do not plan for this in the beginning when laying out your Bitting Lists, you could get blocked into a corner with no way out. You might never use all those changes. But you don't want to be caught short. The last thing you want to tell your client is; Sorry! no more room and must start another key system. This does not go over well with clients, makes you look bad, and they don't forget! It is just as easy to create a large key system as a small one. It's all in the math. I made that mistake several times, and never again! When your client needs to expand you will be ready. By default, I always give myself more than enough expansion room. You might never use it, but the expansion is now available and your clients will always remember you. Think and plan BIG! It will only hurt you if you plan small and have to tell your client....sorry!

@@assakesomanlockman7179 Thanks for the prompt reply. I have been a locksmith for over 50 years and have handwritten hundreds of systems. I always allow for some expansion. For example, I work in the Caribbean and did a keying system for a hotel. There were maid masters, supervisor masters, floor masters for security and fire, and dozens of masters for everything from landscaping, food, and beverage, security, reservations, and a whole level of management. I tried to cover everything and when a floor master was compromised it not only affected that floor but also two different maid keys, which were on different floors in addition to the floor I was working on. I was so glad I had a large enough system to cover it all. Most of my jobs in the Caribbean were high-end resorts and hotels and the number of guest rooms alone might run into the hundreds. I don't fault you for expansion but for only 20 locks I probably would not have created such a large system. All the best in your business and I hope you are as successful and happy as I have been for all these years.
