Excellent video... Ive been mobile for nearly 4 years and I think I'm ready to switch to a storefront. Your shop is absolutely top-notch, clean, organized and stocked well. How long was that location open prior to making the video? What is the Sq ft of your showroom vs total footprint? Would you be available for further questions. It's a huge move for a 1 person business to move into a storefront.

Look into local locksmiths in your area and ask them if they're seeking apprentices or hiring. The worst answer is no, and then you can just try another. Also, be aware of your areas laws on locksmithing and private security to ensure you're in compliance. Thanks for watching! -Randall

I am a weekend warrior locksmith. I work out of town all week for my regular job, come home on the weekends and do locksmithing. It’s a great way to afford your supplies and tools. I have one customer that frequently buys vehicles from auctions that have no keys.I come home and on Saturday, I do my thing and now he has keys. When I started out a few years ago, it was normal to go 3 months without a key job, now it’s normal to have 2-5 key jobs every weekend. I prefer the auto locksmithing. You will focus mostly on the type you’d prefer to do. With automotive, I got friendly with the local towing companies. It’s common for them to end up with vehicles that they put a lien on and then need keys for. In the theory of “you scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours”, I made a few keys for them free of charge, and now they recommend a customer to call me, when they lose their keys and want their vehicles towed to a dealer. I’m sure I don’t get all of their lost key towing calls, as they are loosing business, but I stay busy, and word of mouth travels fast. Keep an eye on Facebook sites and other local sales sites like Craigslist or offer up for locksmith equipment and supplies for sale.

I've seen in your videos that you're a big fan of Pro-Lok Blue Punches. Me too -- I really love the A2 SFIC version. Makes life much easier and quicker. So I'm considering picking up punches for Schlage and Kwikset. However, do you have any experience with Rytan's RY2000 dual punches? Having dedicated Blue Punches seems more convenient, but double the price and workspace needed. So I'm intrigued by the Rytan. Thanks.

@GuardianSafeAndLock4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what degree your getting, but if your in some sort of locksmith training course then depending on your state you may have to go work for a company 2 years before you able to work as an independent. In Texas you have to have two years experience and have someone sign off on it and pass the owner manager test to run your own company. Otherwise you’d have to go work for a company to get experience first. But that’s in Texas so not sure in other states. Thanks for watching!
