Mobile locksmiths sure need to fit a lock inside of their service vehicles, right? Did you like the video? Do you have any more video ideas? Let us know here in the comment section!

09:27 It's not ripping anyone off. You are solving problems. A new lock or key is solving the problem you were called out for. Identifying the lack of additional security solutions such as peep holes and kick plates and having the material and ability to complete the job without an additional call out fee is simply solving a problem for a customer that they didn't know they had until you suggested you could fix it. As long as you quote a cost and bill it after they agree you did nothing wrong. Quite the opposite from ripping anyone off.

Great video. A bit overwhelming for a noobie into locksmith ing but a wealth of knowledge. I agree, go out and make your service known and what you offer and offer service and products. You can’t open a business and expect and wait for customers to just walk in, go out and introduce yourself, pass a 1,000 cards out, make signs, advertise.

Heard you mention a double cylinder. Did this for long time and I hated to install doubles. I was always afraid if someone got caught in their own place when there may have been an emergency like a fire and they couldn't find they key. What I did was offer as an alternative the single cylinder deadbolt and I would install a sheet of bullet proof Lexon over the window in their door so it couldn't be smashed and the deadbolt opened.
@NEBoddy5 ай бұрын
Yep, not to mention in some situations they are illegal to put on. If you rent, if it's a public building such as a restaurant, retail store, or any non-private location the local fire inspector decides to rule on. Very limited in usage anymore. Ironic since they used to be the selling point in glass doors for security. Now the government has come in and made everything less safe from burglary and "supposedly' safer from fire. Since you have a good size van. I see a huge upscale opportunity to add an exterior lift and lower rack system for exterior home doors. I mean just a few varieties as a standard mid to upper grade security level must haves.

8:24, you mentioned double cylinder deadbolt, does your fire code allow those on residential applications? They don’t where I’m at. It’s a lawsuit waiting to happen I guess cause kids lose the key inside or they can’t get out in case of smoke and fire. Every State and local AHJ has their own rules though. I was warned early on to not offer them in residential but it’s fine in commercial applications. We’re not even allowed to rekey them on a home but I know locksmiths do. I will rekey those locks if it’s not on the door. Thanks for sharing. Cool channel🙏🏼✌🏼.

Hey thanks for watching! In Texas it is NOT illegal to install double cylinder deadbolts, according to Texas Property Code. That's crazy that they cant even rekey them..... Just one of the many reasons I love Texas! #freedom - Uriah

How would you rate the lucrativeness of this business? Obviously I understand that every business differs with area and density, but for someone in a pretty dense area thinking about starting their own locksmithing business for mainly car and home lockouts, key copying (analog and digital). Would it be worth it to do a one man band for a while until getting enough to get employees?
@GuardianSafeAndLock Жыл бұрын
YES! 🙌🏻 very lucrative. Don’t limit yourself in offering services, the more options you have and variety of services you offer is what makes it worth while.

How big is the inverter in that van to run your grinder and key duplicator etc? Great video
@odinslockllc4 жыл бұрын
I have a 2500 watt inverter in my E250 and run it off my main battery but my Stepvan will run off two battery’s (the main and an accessories battery individually isolated as needed) and has a 3000 watt inverter. Key machines don’t draw much power tho. But if you use that extension cord the stuff you plug into it can definitely max out your inverter.
@GuardianSafeAndLock4 жыл бұрын
We use a 2500/4000 watt peak inverter and we get them at Harbor Freight.

I have been doing lock work and commercial hardware on college campus for 40 years. Was thinking about going mobile as a retirement gig. I have never done automotive locks with the exception of lockouts. There was another locksmith in town who decided to invest in automotive and I agreed not to. Small town not enough business for more than one automotive guy. Thanks for the response.

We use both but yes you can use a Dremel to outline it and cut it out. But a router is easier to use in most cases.

I’ve been fortunate enough to upsell my customers 70K German Shepherds with each lock job I do. For example: my last job was a $500.00 Jeep key fob replacement. I convinced the customer he needed a 70K German Shepherd to keep watch over his new key. Nice! Just kidding!

Modern locksmiths don’t do just locksmith work they do multiple different security trades such as Access Control, CCTV, safes, automotive locksmithing, and residential and commercial locksmithing. So we use them for cameras and wiring in electrified devices such as maglocks, and electric strikes.
