Hey Nick, Commenting this on this video because it's the most recent, but I came to your channel through your video on Abzu, then followed up with Oxen Free and Firewatch. I miss your stuff, man. I hope you're doing alright through this pandemic, and I (selfishly) hope that you'll come back and do some of that old content again. There's still plenty of interesting games to take a look at, if you're able.

This is a fantastic idea. I had an upright arcade cabinet powered by a raspberry pi but it took up too much space, and I didn't have the time to tinker with it. I have a Nintendo Switch, and a monitor in my attic, this might just be the 'plug and play' solution I was looking for!

Can we get an updated video on this I replicated this at home I would like to see how far we can take it In my set up I added 5.2.4 Dolby atmos and I added a coinop arcade build on pc with 400 vertical games and a few thousand console games
@kirkhilles523 Жыл бұрын
Genius! I honestly had no idea you could do that with a vertical screen. I will seriously consider going this.
@ngiants2230 Жыл бұрын
I didn't say this two years ago but this set up is perfect in that lots of arcade enthusiasts don't have the tools or ability to "build" an arcade cab (which is probably the least expensive way of having one. And purchasing one is usually cost prohibitive. This gives you the essential parts (not to mention the option of horizontal or vertical) but without having to build anything. My kind of arcade. And I'm sure many more would agree.

A minimalist arcade set up is something I’ve been researching/tweaking/searching for 2 years. AT Games modded console, Namco plug and play, Wii light games and some switch classics has been my go to for classic gaming. This vertical switch set up looks like just what the doctor ordered and I will try it out. Some of the classics are missing and what I really crave..Star Wars and Tron are absent standouts.

Lovely! Great idea! wanted to have the arcade experience too but unfortunately my small apartment could not take that. So I decided to build an arcade in a wooden briefcase. It turned out to be very cool and can be used as an arcade machine, of course, as well as decoration piece in the room when it's closed. My friends love it, and I can take it to our gatherings. Especially with 1-on-1 match of Super Puzzle Fighter II. Recently I had the idea of using my switch to power my arcade, which is how I found out your video! Now I'll give this one a try as well! Thanks for sharing! Nice job!

What's good everybody, here are three things you need to know after watching this video. 1) This setup is not intended to replace Mame or authentic arcade systems. It's just my recommended starting point if you're new to arcade gaming. 2) Those were not props, I keep a dollar in change on my desk at all times in case I need to quarter up on Mark of the Wolves. 3) I'M BACK YALL!!!

I mainly use it for my arcade shooters such as House of the Dead and Ghost Squad. 3. Raspberry Pi. New project I’m working on. I don’t have a primary use. It’s just fun.

This made me feel sad about being at an arcade bar because for some reason the cabinets really did feel a lot smaller to me (must be the monitors), but I was a little put off by things like how the controls were laid out, or what angle the board was and quite a few times I ended up being pretty frustrated with it. The minimal idea is something I've always wanted to do, but atm I'm using a 42in LG with my HAPP modded SF: 25th Anniversary stick. I've felt so much comfort on this by comparison and it just seems crazy I'd rather pair a number of console exclusive titles that have arcade quality rather than just ports. All I'm needing now is one of those large rotating stands and maybe something to hold a spare LCD for marquees since I want to get a Pi to run independently. Things change when the real video games have been kept out of arcades too long. Too bad modern ones are running a different concept that 80's/90's fans aren't really much of a fan of.

Great setup. What's cool is the modality. For example you could get one of the Hori Racing Wheels intended for Mario Kart to play stuff like OutRun or Virtua Racing. Or if a flight stick ever gets released that can be used on the Switch one of them for Space Harrier and the upcoming G-Loc rerelease.

Once I get a new Switch (the charge port on mine is busted, and it is a bit of an outdated model), I'll definitely have to try this out...! A bit late to this party but I’ve only just considered using a switch for emulation. MAME in particular. Utilized an old optiplex pc for my set up but I love the idea of having everything on a switch. Are you using Retro Arch? Seems to be the go to when emulating on a switch. Not a fan when experimented last yr with this program but if it’s the most simple way of achieving switch emulation I’ll give it another go.

@NIKMOE5 жыл бұрын
Curious to hear how that works for you, I love old CRTs but they take up lots of space. I have good news for you though those side bars on the image in Namco Museum (Pacman and Galaga) can be disabled and you can even stretch the image to fit your screen. This should work well for your CRT bubble effect!

NIKMOE yeah I like the minimalism, although the extra screens improve my edit workflow. Maybe I could change my 2 x 1080 monitors into an extra wide though... Pretty ironic how you consider a “minimalist” setup to be a $500 monitor paired with a $300 console and a $90 arcade stick. Which doesn’t include the cost of buying those arcade games on Switch either. It might look minimal in presentation but it’s anything but in terms of cost

For arcade games, you can get like a 100$ monitor off the facebook marketplace(assuming you don't already have one), your switch (most people watching this video have it, so we'll ignore it) and an arcade stick for 90$ or less. The price can range a lot, but in general it will range from 50-190€ for most people that are watching this video.

Remapping controls every time you update your games??? So you are just making up issues that aren't actually a thing that you have to deal with.' Powering up an arcade... yeah so hard, one button press and 10 seconds of waiting. You have your switch hidden behind the monitor that has got to be more of a nightmare to set up and you have to get your mouse and keyboard out of the way and get the controller which is all way more work. Yes using the things around you is the cheapest way to do things it is also usually the worst way of doing things. Trying to hack something together is rarely the best feeling solution and here is no different... But props on the clickbait I guess... smh
