I have that Lilysilk blouse. It’s beautiful on and I get comments every time I wear it. Totally agree about black pants. I’m good with Blackmon my bottom half but not too as it washes me out. Also the Lilysilk cashmere sweater is in my list. Great styling video and reminder to invest well in a smaller number of items. ❤

Hi Diana, I very much enjoy your style diaries. I am interested in your metamorphosis, as I myself am trying to attain the same of well-thought out wardrobe as you. After many, many mistakes over the years, I am at a loss to know who and 'how' I am. So, thank you. Can you please do a piece on 'sporty chic', as it is your favorite you must have many ideas and alternatives. I myself enjoy this style, and am trying to create it for myself. My lifestyle lends itself more to this style than anything else. Heels are just something I wear if I (so rarely) go out with my husband, although a heeled pair of boots would be nice for winter. Also, I am a petite woman (4'11") and would appreciate any advice you have on dressing my body. I have received your styling portfolio and I am an "H" shape. The advice is great, thank you. Another question for you is, where do you purchase your clothes? Thanks for your time and effort.

I find silky blouses to be very tricky to wear. They highlight every imperfection and stain easily. Cotton shirts keep shape nicely and I believe they are more flattering for every body type
@dianagoss

Cotton is much stiffer than silk, so it works great on angular types and kills curvilinear since it can’t follow the natural curves. Unless there are side darts and high percentage of Lycra or spandex in it, cotton shirt doesn’t sit on curvier figure types neither on women with full bust, just creates bulk and pulls everywhere.

I much prefer silk, cotton doesn’t work as well on me , it can overheat me if thick, as in t-shirts, and it needs meticulous ironing before every wearing. Silk is so easy, it hardly ever needs washing, unless one gets overheated (unlikely in silk it’s so breathable) and very sweaty, or gets a lot of food and beverage stains, and it just hangs dry, super fast and never needs ironing, except to remove the wrinkles from the original shipping. It’s also the most comfortable fabric by an order of magnitude. It does have a high affinity for stains, though, and they can’t be treated as aggressively, no bleach, for example. But I have about a 99% success rate with spot removal on silk, between Folex and Shout Wipes. I only had one spot I couldn’t remove completely, out of my hundred or so silk garments, but the dry cleaners could, they have access to effective solvents that we general consumers don’t. With my lifestyle and habits, I rarely get spots on clothes anyway. But, you don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to.🙂

@@dianagoss I like these a lot, too, even though I’m a die-hard silk wearer, I also suffer pangs of animal-cruelty guilt for doing so (but don’t suffer nearly as much as the boiled-alive silkworms do). I would add high-quality rayon (conventional viscose uses a really toxic, cyanide-based process, except for the new eco-friendly ones like Ecovero). All these cellulosic (plant-fiber) fabrics you list here have many silk-like qualities: softness, lightness, good drape and hand, and most importantly, good to great breathability (some are used for cooling the body in sportswear, cooling blankets, etc). I look for the thicker, higher-quality versions; thin, cheap ones can be limp and puckery (price is usually a good guide). I would add to your suggestion: avoid synthetics like polyester, which irritate skin and retain heat and perspiration, it is plastic, after all, so it’s about as comfortable as wearing a trash bag.

I find that sometimes when it's silk material, it is usually static and got stuck to my skin!! How do I deal with this problem?
@kimberlyperrotis8962
@kimberlyperrotis8962 Жыл бұрын
I have this problem a lot in my super-dry climate. My hair rises straight into the air and clings to my face and clothes, too. I just spray my silk items with Static Guard, outside, and let them dry on a hook in the shade (I don’t want to breathe in any spray product). It’s very effective and completely safe for silks and any other fabric. It usually lasts for several wearings, but must be re-applied after washing, but I don’t wash my silks much, they don’t need it. I also treat the inside of my cashmere sweaters because I always wear a silk shirt, or silk tee, under them, and they create a lot of static together. When my hair gets out-of-control static, I spray my brushes and combs, too, before using them, it works great. (The inside of my home stays under 10% relative humidity from early summer through autumn, it’s a nuisance, even though I got rid of all synthetic carpet and now have only 100% wool rugs on hardwood).🙂

Lily Silk is having a lot trouble fulfilling its orders lately. I ordered your blue and white striped shirt weeks ago and am still waiting for that order (it has lots of items in it). Until this winter, I got my LS orders in a week, now it’s taking forever. There are other orders outstanding from months ago, too. This brand supplies most of my wardrobe, I hope they fix their problems soon. (I also love Banana Republic, Theory, Equipment and some Quince items).

I love wearing light-colored neutral bottoms and find both white and ivory (cream, off-white, etc.) to be very useful. I prefer white next to my face and for bottoms with white-based patterns, but with prints that are ivory-based, I prefer an ivory skirt or trousers. I know many people are mixing white and ivory, but I prefer to stick with one or the other. Wearing an ivory shirt with white trousers or skirt, for example, makes the shirt look dingy, more like a dressed-in-the-dark goof than a deliberate style choice. I love classic patterns like dots, checks and stripes (especially), and a few, very carefully chosen animal prints, florals and geometrics. It pays to have personal guidelines and be very selective about non-classic patterns, they don’t style as easily and they date quickly. I’m passing on the current big heart-print and tropical floral trends, for example. My most-worn items are my silk or linen shirts (love a classic, collared shirt), cotton or linen trousers and skirts, all in fresh, bright white. Wearing white tops makes me look so much better in dark colors like black elsewhere, as in jackets, near my face. I like a white collared and cuffed shirt under black dresses, or black dresses with white details, to soften the harsh color a bit

@kimberlyperrotis8962

I wouldn’t, tuck them in yo dhow your waistband. Long hanging-out tops made the legs look stumpy, makes one look, bigger, and ruins the proportions, it’s much better to just show a little figure roundness, I do. You could try just front-tucking.

Me, too, well not with the skirts and dresses that I prefer to wear. They can look ok with some trousers, but I haven’t able to bring myself to wear them with skirts and dresses. During my career, beginning in the 80s, we got so much criticism from men for wearing sneakers during our long commutes. But I, like many women, had almost a mile’s walk over dirt, weeds, ruts and concrete rubble twice per day, we just couldn’t do it in our corporate pumps. Maybe I’m just getting too old, I’ll be 63 soon. But it just doesn’t feel like me, I prefer a leather boot or sandal. Especially with a block heel of around 2 inches, the extra height gives me confidence.🙂

I hate that, too, they’re copying a popular Canadian shirt brand, but that doesn’t make it a good feature. If it were any other fabric, I would pick the embroidery out, but I learned from experience that silk is too delicate for that, so many needle holes left would weaken the weave too much. I have a tiny seam ripper that I use to remove logos, I hate them. I used to buy a lot of Ralph Lauren, until they began cheapening their products with synthetic fibers a few years ago. I always removed the badges, logos, etc. I’m not a fan of giving brands free advertising on my body.🙂

Silk is not optimal for curvy features, it just emphasises any fat on the body. Moreover, you will be sweating in warmer months and silk will stick to your body as glue. Not very flattering.
