This was a great tutorial. I felt a little upset, at first, about the node groups, but after having some experience in those weird things, I can understand why Tawan packed them into some groups. At very least he gave those groups with the tutorial file so, if you have the time and understanding, you can pick apart what he did in them. I had to alter a little bit here and there, but after that I have turned this into something I can test against other rain tutorial things. (Which were often a lot harder to follow or their end result only worked in that singular type of setting). Also, Tawan, you got me hard with that ending with the Default cube. That was honestly touching as heck. ^^

hi, I recently downloaded your painterly cloud setup...it's awesome! it's just that whenever I make clouds using your geometery nodes setup...those cloud plains cover up the entire space infront of the camera...lets say I wanna make a scene where a jet is flying over a layer of clouds...so I make the clouds using the cloud shader and geometry nodes...but when I place a jet over it, it just falls behind those cloud plains...unlike your 'painterly brush' setup where the plains are actually on the object rather than stacking up infront of the camera...and again...your cloud shader's really stunning...it's just that every object I place infront of it gets hid cuz of the stacking of all those plains...is there any solution to this...or a workflow I can use to manage this situation..I would love to hear back from you as soon as possible 😃and thanks again for creating such awesome stuff for artists like us 🙂

In the Geometry node, there should be a Set Position or a Translate Instances node (I'm outside so I cannot remember. Sorry 😭) which is responsible for translating the cloud towards the camera removing the z-fighting artifacts. You can disable that node and it should work. However, it must be noted that you may see some z-fighting artifacts while moving the camera.

did the raycast + modifier work for you ? cause whenever i try to use it the collision stop working and the splashes dont appear anymore only the rain
@tawansunflower2 ай бұрын
The raycast + node is basically a raycast node with a custom attribute. It shoots a ray according to the "Ray Direction" input and outputs the position what the ray hits the Target Geometry 👍 Now, the Raycast + node also store a custom attribute (data) on each rain point, so when rain hits the ground it carries a custom data which helps the node to calculate the "Hit Age". The Hit Age outputs 0 when the rain have not hit the ground yet. When it hits Hit Age will count up every frame. For example, a rain particle hits the ground on frame 10. On frame 11, Hit Age will be 1. Frame 12, it will be 2 and so on. 👍
@tawansunflower2 ай бұрын
Most problems of Raycast + node not working is caused by Blender version. If you use Blender 4.0 or older it will not work. If you accidentally open the tutorial file using 4.0 and saved over the file, it's too late. You will have to manually edit the nodes inside Raycast +. If you have any trouble on it you can reach out to me via Twitter or Email. It would be better if we talk there. Or maybe I should start a Discord 🤔

Even after applying your material node setup to each rain and splash object, my meshes look different from the emitted rain. I've tried adjusting the point and world lighting, and editing the material node of the meshes DOES change the emitted rain, but they still look different...
