the clump/guide technique did not work for me. in the node editor I plug the "Out Spline Data" of the "inGuide_Shape" instead of "mainGuide", now it working. (maya2020)

I tried this and it did work as well. However, this procedure and the one shown in the video did not work on guides that were generated from curves. This is because that method didn't come with a "xxx_shape" node like the guides that were generated through the "create button". My question is how do you do this guides to clump guides transfer method when the main guides are generated from curves?

That guide clumping trick is great! I didn't think there was an easy way to do it when the documentation says it's just not possible, and switching to Xgen core just for that and then coming back was really messy

Great video thank you so much! I haven't seen any tutorials on getting a creature with xgen fur texture like this and animated. Would that be a separate mesh with fur description, and then have that wrap deform to the same model with no fur description with bind skin for animation?

when i try to color the hairs with texture doing exactly like you, every single hair gets the texture assigned? what could be the problem? did a test in a clean project, same result. is made with groomable splines(w grooming tools) edit: okay it works with the INTERACTIVE GROOM SPLINES as shown in the video, I just assumed it would work with the GROOMABLE SPLINES too. With this extreme difficulty of xgen, I cant imagine this being the industry go to for grooming? maybe i just suck xD

really clever workarounds you have shown there! If I could ask one question it would be if you could draw out a separate guides or guide curves for the clump modifier and then have that use those instead of the original one the base curves are using. How would you go on plugging that in the input points of the clump modifier?
@arvidurs4 жыл бұрын
I think the same way - you can just add another guide modifier create those guides and then just connect their output to the clumps

You’d paint a texture on the head and read that in to the hair shader for color

Thank you very much for this ,, to the point ,, tutorial, it helped me grasp the concept very fast. Only problem i encountered is that i get these random hairs sticking out, and no matter how many guides i add near them, they are still persistent in their desire to stick out. I would be really grateful if somebody can point me in a right direction on how to solve that :).
@arvidurs3 жыл бұрын
It's a little hard to debug without seeing the scene. But it seems your guide influence radius might now be large enough to drive the hair. Or maybe you have some weird clump weights painted or something like that?
@lexithecalm95193 жыл бұрын
@@arvidurs thank you very much for the reply. i solved the problem by making hard contrasts on my mask that i was using for controlling hair density. in my case, it turned out that, on fade-out areas of the mask, guides were not properly generated :) cheers

@@arvidurs Hi, I have the same problem, after I connect the texture file to Base color of aistandardhair material, the texture only applied to each hair, not all fur. I assigned material to the Xgen_description as what you did. The only difference is I manually create guides, not generated by interactive groom system. Is it the reason why I fail?
