I love this pattern so much! The way you showed how to keep it going without flipping or turning helped so much! Makes it look seamless! I did go further to about an 18 inch size for a pillow. It is a bit floppy but not horrible. I plan to use this pattern for so many more projects! My mother recently passed so i got her whole "collection" of yarn at my house now, taking up my guest bedroom. I have been trying to find fun different things to make. I am excited to try this as multiple granny squares to put together to make a "quilted" blanket :) :) :) thank you for sharing this :)

Oh my gosh!! I have frogged this square so many times I think that I am starting to crave flies! Nonetheless, I am determined to figure it out. Rippit rippit. Cup of tea. Start again. 😂 At least I am using my favorite amethyst color so it's pretty even if it is a mess! UPDATE! Finally! I have a 19x19 stitch square. Now to make a few more for the CAL blanket. (P. S. This is how i always do mine but i hate the look of starting chains so i always use (depending on what looks better with the yarn im using etc) i use a standing dc or stacked singles. If i need to really cover up the start then i sometimes make my first st the 2nd of the corner sts, so my last sts are a ch 2 n dc then join. You can then turn & sl st to the corner, turn n then start again on the same side

Thank you Robin, you have been a project saver for me. I am making a Lion Appliqué afghan for my new nephew arriving in April. The normal pattern has that eye twitching seam and it drives me bonkers. I have made ones plain square and it is perfect. One question however, the lion appliqué one starts with a circle for the lion face and goes directly into the square. Do I follow the pattern for the first row after the face and continue the square like you have shown. Again, a big thank you for sharing.❤

I've been trying to do this square for months and today I finally got where I was going wrong.. Answer: Tension. Get that right and the square more or less crochets itself. The HDC to close the ring is incredibly useful and makes the centre look much neater. I have also found a stitch marker helps a lot too, even though they are fiddly things to use sometimes.
