Brilliant! I've been crocheting for 45 years with 2 chains - can't believe haven't come across this before. Thank you!!!

Nice. This is the stitch that Christine (TXCr1cket on Ravelry) won the award for in 2010 for the stitch she created in 2008. Nice video! Christine has even improved on this stitch in 2014!

This is Brilliant! Love this and will definitely use for my straight edged projects. I always feel compelled to make a border to mask blanket chain rows. Thank you so much!

Thank you. Thank you. You're awesome. Had a bit of trouble at first keeping the loop from sliding, but now I've got it down. I was 3/4 through a baby blanket when someone told me about this. I didn't have the heart to frog 62 rows of 156 DCs each to do it, so I finished it, gave it a frilly border to draw attention away from the unsightly gaps, and gave it away. I'm making another baby blanket and this time I'm using the technique shown here, and it looks SO much better! It's neat, even, and gap-free, and that's a relief. I learned how to crochet about a year ago and I kind of wish I'd learned this straight away as well, because I've always hated the gaps that came with the chain-3, even if they were tight, and the chain-2. Thanks for explaining it easily and doing it twice to start, then again at the end of the row. I'll share it in my group for anyone who doesn't know how to do this already.

I will never use anything else to begin a project! After practicing a LOT, I am finding it easy to do and will make everything look so nice. Plus I love the stretchy to it, unlike a beginning chain.

Thank so much for this! I just started a scarf with rows of 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc to make a lace pattern and the first ch 3 of the row was really obvious. It looks much better this way :)

I'm still very new at this, but with the help of this video, I just did a standing double cluster of 3 and it's much, much better than starting my cluster with a chain 3. Thank you so much.

Actually, this isn't a reply but a ? I hope that's ok. I am doing a doily where it calls for a FP-4TC-popcorn around a stitch from below. (2 rounds below) Do have a tutorial on this? I have not heard of this stitch before.

TYSVM Tamara!!! I started another circle jacket for my other Granddaughter and after a couple rounds had the "DUH!" moment and went immediately to your video! For some reason I am not memorizing it so I keep the video up while I'm working on it. I can't tell you the difference it has made in the overall look, especially in the row that calls you to ch 3 for your beginning stitch then ch 4, sk 3 stitches, 1 dc in next st. So that is a total of 7 chains at the beginning. By using the CSDC you have no problem when you go to finish that round and it looks SSOOO much better! ;-)

This is really neat! Thanks for posting, I'll have to try this soon. When I have a blanket where I'm using the 3 chain and have a gap, I actually like to use a ribbon as a decorative border sometimes. It fills in the gap and adds a bit of pizazz! Lol.

(This is moogly, different youtube account) I haven't found that this changes the size of the pattern at all, but if it does, then blocking should take care of it!

I love this but have a couple of questions...I hope you have time to answer. 1.Does this change the size of the over all pattern? (when measured lengthwise and compared against the ch3) 2.If the rows are a little shorter, do you think blocking would help? Thanks :) :)

TY, Tamara! I was wondering if you have a trick for carrying a yarn over looplessly when crocheting in stripes? Hope my question make sense. Thank you
@tamarairene
@tamarairene 9 жыл бұрын
+Iryna Boehland Hello! Do you mean the floats along the sides? The best way to keep them from making a big loop along the side with to trap the yarn you are "floating" within the stitch of the other color. However, to hide it either way you'll need to work a border. I don't have a video on it unfortunately, I'll have to add it to the list! :D

from watching this, I would say no that it doesn't change the size. You will keep the same size by pulling your stitch up the same height as your chain 3 would have been. The rest of the row is crocheted as normal, so you would still have the same height across the row.
@n3rdygrl
@n3rdygrl 11 жыл бұрын
I do the chain 3 but pull a loop thru the 2nd chain from the hook then a loop thru the stitch the chain is in. Pull thru 2, pull thru 2 so I don't get the gap.

I'm sorry you're having trouble! The best advice I can give is to make sure that the top of the loop is held very very firmly by that finger, so that it doesn't move at all.

I can't seem to grasp this either, can't get enough of a firm hold on that loop LOL I think I will just stick with the ch 3 method for now and keep practicing this one on a swatch until I can get it right

It takes a lot of practice, and not all patterns or yarns play nice! My other go-to is to ch 2 and then dc in the first stitch, not counting the ch 2 as a stitch. It isn't quite as straight on the sides, but if you are making a border on the piece anyway, it works really well!

If it's really *too* fast for you to follow, you can play the video slower by using the options. Go to the gear shown at the bottom right of the video and click on it, then click "speed", then pick half speed (0.5) or quarter speed (0.25) and play the video as many times as you need to practice the technique until you get it down. Good luck!
