Using Bernat Forever Fleece (or any super bulky 6 weight yarn), a double crochet mesh stitch and chains, you can make this very easy 52” x 58” plaid blanket too!
Affiliate Links: (I make a small commission if you purchase through a recommended link at no extra cost to you; thank you!)
Bernat Forever Fleece Yarn: a little more than 3 skeins of each color. They come in packs of 2 skeins.
White Noise: amzn.to/3NToZ76
Coal: amzn.to/4aUEnd1
Chamomile: amzn.to/3TXFGSu
Or your choice of any 3 colors.
You can usually get most colors for around $9.00 for a pack of 2 skeins. If they are more than that, you might want to choose colors that are in that range. They have a nice selection.
9mm crochet hook: amzn.to/47Fx3zb
8mm crochet hook for the chains and border (I found that 142 chains worked for me. 5 of each color for each block, 4 blocks so 20 total individual chains of 142 of each color)
Find this and other free patterns on my website.
i-crochet.com/crochet-a-moder...
I found 2 errors in my tutorial, so sorry! One, I forgot to chain one after one of my double crochet stitches, as I was saying to remember to do that! 🙄 (so do as I say, not as I do….😊)
Also, when you get to the border, I accidentally edited in the first round twice. I can’t go back and fix it now, so I hope it didn’t confuse you.
Thanks for being understanding.

@@carolynmills513 Thank you for your feedback! Weaving in ends is time consuming, but pretty easy with this type of yarn. I’m always learning new techniques and try to keep my patterns as easy as possible. If you don’t want to weave in the chain ends, you can work them in under the first border row. Let me know if you try it! 😀

I'm seeing many clad type blankets different styles, but this one is unique. I love it. ❤️ You are very good instructor and slow in detail in your explanations, which is very good. I made one blanket that was designed for the military branches. You use 3 or 4 colors. There was a lot a lot of lattice chaining and weaving and continue with the construction and so on. It was a bear to make in five months, because I made it more like a blanket type for my brother who is large tall tall. I said I will never make another one like that, and it wore me out LOL, but I love doing that for my brother who served his 20 yrs in the Army and was medically retired at a 100%, because he was injured twice in Afghanistan, but he is good and okay.

Way back in 1986 I made a baby blanket like this. I used white, pink, blue, green, and yellow. It turned out so cute. To keep baby from pulling out a long braid and possibly wrapping it around the neck, I sewed it down with the sewing machine. Yours is so pretty! ❤

Yes, just make the initial chain longer to make it as wide as you like. I used a multiple of 5 plus one more chain at the end to have those blocks of 5 woven chains work out. You can make the blocks any number you like, even some bigger than others, but I wanted this plaid/gingham look…and I’m not that great at math😊

@@janetfickey5196 You certainly can, but you would need to increase the initial chain. I used multiples of 5 plus one more chain at the end so you end up with blocks made of 5 chains woven in. I think in a 4 weight you would probably want to use 10 or more chains per block. They have the same colors in 6 weight Bernat Blanket. If I were going to make it, I would use a creamy white, like a vintage white in the Bernat Blanket yarn. They have a crimson red that is bright red. I would use a dark gray or black for the 3rd color to really make the red pop. You’re so sweet! When you make your chains, depending on how loosely you chain, you may want to go down a size for the hook. Leave long tails on both ends of the chains and really secure them by weaving into the chain, back up to the blanket and side to side at the edge of the blanket. I didn’t show that enough on the video. When you get to the border, I did a better job of editing that on the pillow video. 😊

I’ve actually started this blanket; have received the white and am waiting on my other two colors. So, while waiting, I thought I’d do the required number of white chains but I cannot locate anywhere in the transcript where you mention the number of chains needed for the completed blanket. Is there a recommended number of chains? Or did you just make the first chain to fit the need once the filet portion was complete and then count the number and replicate that for the balance of the chains needed? (Gosh, I hope my question makes sense-it’s a bit convoluted).
