HOW TO CUSTOM SPRAY PAINT YOUR BIKE AT HOME

4 years ago I made a video of probably the worst spray paint there is on KZbin and a lot of people still liked the video.
So I thought let's make another one.

And yes I spray painted it orange so it matches my cat.

What grit of sand paper did you use for the wet-sand and then for the in-between while applying the primer? This is a really helpful video!

Look at the link in the video description. I started of with the rough sandpaper(80 - 400) and worked my way up to the finer ones (600 - 2000)

I wouldn't skip steps like sanding and primer (yes sanding is a lot of work), because else the paint job could easyily come off, and since you put in work and money anyways, I would try to do it right. You could skip the clear coat, but that one only costs like 5 bucks and is not a lot of work.

Great video - this makes the process look a little less daunting, I may try it myself haha. Question on the wheels - the old bike has chrome/silver linings where the brake pads are aligned. Since painting over them with Black paint - and riding for a little while - I'm curious if the black paint has worn off at all?

I thought so too tbh, and was not sure if I should spray paint the whole wheels or not, but till now the break pads work fine and the paint did not come off. If you use 2 coats of primer, it should be alright

Yes, it will and you will be putting yourself in danger of the brakes not stopping you at all

The paint job is still in very good condition. One day I went to the bike workshop with the bike and the guy working there said, he saw a lot of self made paint job, but this one was the best.

Did the paint go hard on the frame or did it stay quite soft? I painted with montana about a year ago and i pained my frame and the paint still isnt hard as i can dig my nail into the paint work and it leaves a indent. Just wondering if it happend to you as well? Cheers George

no didn't happen, the paint is still good. Maybe try clear coat next time and at least 2 coats of primer

I only used very fine sandpaper between the coats after it dried, but you could also use a normal towel to wipe down the dust.

Wet sanding is often better than dry standing for various reasons. If you spray paint in screw holes the screws won't fit anymore. And the cleat coat should mean that the paint doesn't feel sticky.

Awesome! To "what are the coats ?" "coats" are also called "layer", one coat of color is when you have one layer of color on the bike To " Why covering the holes ?" most of the holes were holes for screw, you cover them up so you don't mess up the thread and also its better to have no paint inside the frame To "was it easy to assemble/disassemble the bike?", assembling was actually very easy. But disassembling was hard, because the pedal "crank arm" was hard to disassemble. But with youtube tutorials its not so hard, just search for (how to disassemble a bike) one tip: when you disassemble the bike, remember exactly wich steps you do and wich screws go into wich holes, maybe make photos or notes. That will help you a lot when you assemble the bike back together.

if the plastic is painted aswell, maybe try with smooth sanding paper, but it should be fine if you skip that
