Good idea to let the birds have the remnants for nesting material. They have been busy in my garden especially around last year's hanging baskets which I always leave for the insects. The birds seem to like pecking at the coco liners. It's nice seeing them flying off with bits. Hope you both have a wonderful weekend and let's hope we get some nice weather like today. I actually got some seeds sown this morning. xxx

In Our courtyard garden we had a long container placed on top of the brick bin shed wall with this plant in. We wondered why the grasses were not growing, but then watched as a little bird came and took bits out and flew away, only then to return for more. It's lovely to watch isnt it? Seems they must like coco liners too, their nests must be so warm and cosy! Hopefully the weekend will bring some sunshine like yesterday. Take care Wendy xxx

I have a 3rd way to clean up stipa. Get a little hand rake, like one you'd use on a rockery or a dog comb and comb the grass strands through. I use this method for my Festucca too! It works really well, and is quick to do.

That's great, thanks. Love the idea of using a pet comb! Will have to try that.

Thanks Paul. Would that be the same for stipa tenufolia? Hope you're both well.

You're welcome Suzanne. According to Google, Stipa tenufolia is another name for stipa tenuissima so it's the same plant. Names are always changing, it used to known as Nassella tenuissima too. We're both well thanks, hope you are too.

Hi there, my stipa tenuissima is flopping since the beginning of Summer..can I cut It back now in September? Thanks
@MadAboutGardening2 ай бұрын
Hello, the natural habit of this grass is a bit floppy but it sounds like yours may be in need of dividing rather than just cutting back. We've got a few that have so many flowers they a matted and floppy because they are so heavy and we'll be dividing them this autumn. If you're unsure how to divide them, take a look at our video on how to do this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn7Od4iXhrZ7grc Hope this helps 👍
