I'll use this idea tomorrow. Switch plate screws should be vertical not horizontal. Fingernails get caught especially women's fingernails

Hate how builders never accounted for a little extra room for trim so the complete switch plate would fit.

Radial arm saw with fine blade works better, if you have one

No. Tried it. Shattered and pieces flew dangerously.

Would a square hand sander work?

A square orbital sander? I’ve never tried but I imagine that it would work, just be very slow.

Why not use a standard size cover? That looks like a Mid or Jumbo cover. Are the other plates in that room the same size and this was used to keep them similar?

You could have used an extender box to shift them farther to the right.

This doesn’t work for the average person without a sander. I thought it was “Cut”.

Take a piece of 80 grit sandpapers and place it on a flat surface. Hold the cover plate and rub it against the sandpaper.
