That's clever. I've used pipe cutters before but didn't think about this application.

I used a hack saw. Wasn't as clean on the end, but you'd never tell that seeing it in the hilt. This was something I never thought of! Awesome stuff!!

That was my initial plan but I thought “there has to be a better way” I found a video that recommended a pipe cutter, but they weren’t great at explaining it or the cleanup. So I figured I’d do a more detailed instructional.

Imagine someone sees this and try’s to use it on there neo pixel
@Hightower15454 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t be surprised. When I made this video NeoPixel wasn’t an option, so I didn’t mention it but I’d like to think it’s pretty self explanatory that this won’t work on NeoPixel; however I am waiting for that angry review/comment from someone who couldn’t figure that out.

Hi! Nice video thank you. What I don’t understand though is how come the light diffusing film can be pushed in.. where does the room for pushing inside come from? Or does it come off/out because of pulling down the separated pipe?
@Hightower1545 Жыл бұрын
So the film is separate inside the tube. After cutting the plastic, I pull the film out a tiny bit, cut it, and then push it back in. That way it’s not sticking out after you cut it.
@shogunronin Жыл бұрын
Aaah! Ok now I get it. Thanks mate.

@@Hightower1545 The tube cutter won’t cut the film if you keep tightening it slightly once the tube is cut?
@davydatwood31588 ай бұрын
@@teegees Pipe cutters like that aren't actually very sharp, you could run your finger along it and be fine. They only work because the pipe is rigid - which the thin plastic film clearly isn't.

What kind of glue did you use? Was it some kind of clear fluid of glue or was it super glue?
@Hightower15453 ай бұрын
Honestly, any adhesive would work. I used a drop of the blue loctite gel control super glue.

Is there a way to make longer blades. I’m trying to get an almost 4ft blade for a costume and none of the stores have more than 36in.
@Hightower15452 жыл бұрын
There is not. 36” is the standard length. I’ve seen a couple 40” blades at one point, I don’t remember who or where; but that’s the best you can get.

Could we use a power tool like one of those electric saws?
@Hightower15452 жыл бұрын
You could use a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade, or even a hacksaw; not sure how well it would react to the film inside (might wrinkle it); but hypothetically, yes you could.
@surfdiagram12492 жыл бұрын
So you cut down the standard blade and not the neo pixel right? And that’s the shade v2 with the v6 base lit??? Man it looks amazing I was kinda starting to regret buying the saber cause the light might be to dim, but if it looks real on camera like that then no doubt it would look amazing in person. Especially in the dark..
@Hightower15452 жыл бұрын
That’s correct, only Baselit blades can be cut down. NeoPixel has electronics inside. But you can request shorter blades when you order them (I know I mentioned that before) And, honestly in low light (when you typically would be using the sabers) they are comparable. NeoPixel is a little brighter but ultimately the Baselit a hold up quite well in terms of brightness. I love mine
@bvttoneyed Жыл бұрын
Does this work for ALL rbg blades? Mine are basically the same one but *slightly* thicker. Mine are 36" but I want to shorten them to 32". is there a lot of risk when cutting the blade? Will it splinter or anything after cutting? Sorry if I'm late :/
@Hightower1545 Жыл бұрын
First of all, in spite of my lack of new content, I’m still active and reply to new comments (and try to follow up with replies) as often as I can :) Secondly, yes this technique will work with any Baselit style blade. I’ll repeat myself again: this is *NOT* *for* *NeoPixel* blades, the kind with the lights in the blade itself. It sounds like you have a heavy grade dueling blade, which is why it’s thicker. Using a pipe cutter, similar to the one I recommended, will just require a few more turns to cut, but it shouldn’t cause any issue with the plastic. I’ve had zero complications with the blades I cut down and have actually dueled with on several occasions. No breakage, splitting, or any other issues.

can u do it with rgb and lgt lightsabers too?
@Hightower15453 жыл бұрын
Any saber blade that’s hollow. Crimson Dawn sells LGT sabers, so yes this will work with those. This will not work with NeoPixel style saber blades

Personally I would recommend against securing the film-VV specifically doesn’t do that so the film isn’t damaged as easily with hits. One of my CD blades already has nasty film damage internally from striking so it might be unavoidable either way.
@Hightower15454 жыл бұрын
I have read their breakdown on the subject as well. However, CD blades come with the film secured by default, so I recommended this to keep it OEM. The problem I have, if I don’t secure the film, is every time I remove the blade, the suction from the hilt pulls the film out and then I’m stuck with trying to gently replace it every time.
