Hoping you can help! I have a new Mastertemp 125 that was installed, was working, and the electrical system stopped (board won't turn on when plugged in). I replaced the board and the transformer with warranty parts from Pentair, and the heater turned on and worked for several hours. Went to check it in the morning and the electrical system is not working again. What could possibly be wrong?

I have a Mastertemp 250, when you power the heater on, it goes thru the start up menu it show a "128" than "r14" the blower starts and 3 seconds later it trips the GFCI and kills power, reset the GFCI and it does the same thing over and over. the only thing you can do is after the "r14" appears on the screen you can turn the heater off and it wont trip the GFCI, but if you turn the heater on it will trip the GFCI. any suggestions?

Excellent video. Thank you. I have a Pentair Mastertemp 250 in its fourth season. The heater cycles on and off twice and then throws a service heater light. Saltwater pool with Intelliflo. Pentair sand filter with new media that is backwashed routinely. We have terribly hard water in our area that builds a huge amount of deposits. Pool chemicals are kept in balance using a Taylor K2006 kit. I had a pool company look at the unit last year. They claimed they cleaned it and it was fine (it was not). Last year I replaced the thermoregulator after finding it concreted with a buildup from our water. The heater worked for a while after this was done. Did telephone troubleshooting with Pentair this summer. They had us do testing with wires on back of control board. Their tests showed we needed to replace the control board. Replaced and it didn't fix the problem. Another test showed a bad pressure switch. Replaced and it didn't fix the issue. All of the troubleshooting research points to water flow. I suspected the thermoregulator was clogged up again this year. It didn't look bad, but I replaced it again while the system was open and allowed water to flush through the heater while the connections were open. Pentair will not cover under warranty since unit was purchased in 2016 even though pool was not completed until 2017. My family and I have spent countless hours researching and calling support. Is there another issue that would cause the heater to act this way or is there another way to check water flow? Unfortunately, we don't have the pressure switch or digital system that you illustrated in this video. Your suggestions are most appreciated.

We are working on this video now and should be posted soon. It is most likely the AGS and/or the Hi-Limit. Typically when one goes the other is not far behind, I would suggest replacing them both, they are considered a 3 year maintenance item (along with the thermal regulator). The video will explain what is happening and how to replace them

My issue is a little different. When I look at it the red “service” light is on. If I turn the heater off and on again, it works fine. But then the next morning when the heater tries to turn on the same thing happens, red service light and no heat. But again, I manually turn it off and on and all is well.

Glad your problem was fixed. I am extremely leary of anything computerized, you will never know what could have secretly known was was programmed in a system (look up about VW and "dieselgate", and then what Boeing did in programming their aircraft resulting in multiple deaths), so my "suspicions" are based on past realities.@@jeffsstuff

I have a new pentair mastertemp 250 and it makes a loud ascending and descending whirring noise. It still heats the pool but it sounds awful. I can't find any info about it - any ideas?

Hey Craig what would happen if you jump out a water pressure switch with no water going through unit ? Not sure if water was going through or not because it slip my mind to check but Will that take out the ignition module ? Because I had a issue with the PS error code led being present so I jumped out the switch to verify that was the issue and the unit started to heat until it got to like 97 degrees then it stopped no error codes appeared when it stop nor did my module had a blank code and confirmed I had voltage going to ignition module.

What about if trying start you can hear that then goes down doesn't start it just kick and stops

When the Heater is connected via a comm cable to the EasyTouch for remote control, do you wire the heater power directly via a GFCI so it always has power or do you connect it to the relay in the easy touch so it is turned off and on only by the relay in the easy touch?

Wire the power for the heater directly to the breaker/line voltage. Do not have the pump relay or any other relay supply power to the heater. If the pump were to fail or be shut off when the heater is fired at least you have the fan to help eliminate the heat. Yes the safety switches will shut the heater down if the flow stops or the temperature gets to high. This is called dead-ending the heater and will cause damage to the heater core. The fan helps to minimize the heater. NEVER... NEVER.... NEVER... Shut off the pump when the heater is fired. Automation systems are designed to prevent this from happening

Dang, we JUST had ours installed ( The 125 Mastertemp) and are getting the exact same error code. Our heater installer came out and he couldn't figure it out and told us he would be getting us the Pentair rep name since this looks like a manufacturing issue. Still haven't heard back.

Brand new master temp 400 wont start after hooking it up just says err afs...any ideas?never had a problem with them before

afs is the air flow sensor, which tells heater that Blower is on and supplying air for combustion. When you start the heater, does the blower start and can you feel air coming out of exhaust vent? Blower will not start unless pressure switch in manifold has continuity....meaning filter pump is running and supplying enough water flow. Also high limit switch has continuity...meaning water temp is below 140 degrees coming out of heater. Both switchs are found on heater manifold. If Blower is working, than check tubing to air flow sensor. Air flow sensor can be checked by gently blowing into tube coming from blower housing to sensor. Sensor will have continuity when you give it a little air, and open when it has no air. It doesnt take much air to make the switch close.
