Just had to let you know that you probably saved my old Quaker girl's life. A semi-feral cat, that my grandkids took in, got into my room and managed to get Sansa. She tried to avoid him but doesn't fly much so lost altitude. To make a very long, and torturously emotional, story short - After watching your video, my son and I were able to stop the bleeding in 5 or 6 medium-length feathers from the edge of her wing and the bleeding stopped in seconds. Now, 48 hours out, she's back to her normal, chipper (and bossy) self. She still can't fly but really, she has no need to. New DEMAND - no cats in my room. Thank you from the bottom of my family's heart for your very understandable and interesting video. We had absolutely no problems after using your advice and method. From a grateful "mom", Apryl

WaSup all birds are different all have a different history I have 4 parrots and it is better to start out with a smaller bird because they won't hurt as much as the big birds if they try to bite but they are not hard to keep they are very funny and they will take some time to get used to you.

SnacPac Craz I was a total nutcase when I saw my first bit of blood on my first bird. But once I got the blood feather out (after I called my avian vet and basically said it's life or death!) so they pretty much guided me & made sure to have me do it and do it correctly. I became a pro as we all do after we panic the first time!!!! My conure always let me do it! I always got the screech eventually lol. But she still preferred I do it then she do it herself!!!

My lovebird was only a few months and two of his tail’s feathers broke. I found him bleeding so bad that he could barely move. I was in panic, cause the nearest vet was in 3 hours from my house and he wouldn’t have make it in such a long time. Then I remembered the guy who sold me him: he has a shop but he’s also a breeder. I drove to the shop and he did exactly what you’re saying: he took out the two broken feathers and stoped the blood. I had to use a special powder to close the wound. If I hadn’t bring my baby to him and if he wasn’t such a good breeder, my Jay wouldn’t probably be here Now he’s doing fine, he’s 5 yrs... Thanks to your video I’ve just realized what might be his real problem: after that episode, he kept ripping off his own tail! I thought it was a stress condition and I’ve tried everything to stop it! But now I believe he just got extremely traumatized by that awful experience. I knew it was bad, and at the time I had the feeling he could have died, but only now I realize how bad it was. Now that I know what’s going on, maybe I can help him better. Thank you!

Good info BUT I couldn't do it. Vet visit! Guess it's a good thing I have dogs and cats. USUALLY they're easier to deal with. Through UTube I've kinda gotten into birds, but I'm too old, since they live so long, and I have rescue dogs and cats to take care of. I love living the flock life vicariously by watching ur vids. Rocky's shower vid is, is, is...words fail me! Too adorable!

Thx so much for the comment. It was a sweet suggestion. I'm 68 yrs old (I like to think 68 is the new 45 --very active). I currently have one dog and am caring for a yr old GIANT, adorable German Shepard "puppy" till his family sells their house. I also have 5 cats and feed, shelter, etc. a feral cat colony. I'll be pet sitting yet another dog for the month of June. All these are rescue fur companions, and I love them. I love them so much that I've made arrangements for their care if my third diagnosis of cancer proves challenging. I can't in good conscience take another creature into an uncertain situation. I did send a donation to Wings of Love bird sanctuary here in TX in honor of Einstein the Texas parrot's hatchday. That's the way I, AND OTHERS, can make a difference. I want to encourage any/all animal lovers who watch UTube rescues to forego the fast food meal, the fancy coffee, or the cost of a movie to send the amt they would have spent to a rescue group. I love Animal Aid India, SCARS, Vet Ranch, etc. Put ur money where ur heart is one time or send a donation in lieu of a gift to an animal loving friend/family member. One size fits all! God bless. U obviously have a big heart. Helping animals/people will earn u stars in ur crown in heaven and their love in the here and now. Much love to ur fur/feather/fin companions.

68 isn't too old to adopt a much older bird that doesn't have much time left? Those kinds of birds are rare but when they come up many people don't give them a second look. The only problem I see is having 5 cats. That being said you seem like someone who cares a lot about animals and you seem to have a big heart so good for you!

I know this video is old so there's no way you're going to see this, but just wanted to say, thank you so much for this information. I found this video a few days ago and have been watching your other videos a lot these past couple of weeks. My cockatiel had just broken a blood feather and I had to get the pin out with my fingers. My dad had trouble restraining her and she bit us both but after he got a good (safe) hold on her, I was able to pull it out easily. I called the vet right after the bleeding stopped to check to see if I did it right, and she said I did. Thank you for this video. I might not have been able to help my baby in time if I hadn't seen it earlier this week! She looks like she is doing alright for now but I will monitor her closely for the next couple hours. I will definitely get pair of hemostats as soon as possible.

My pigeon pulled out his own broken blood (flight ) feather. It bled for 2 days ( about 2 nickles a day ) and you can sometimes wait it out if you have a champ bird. I monitored him and inspected to make sure that he wasn't sapped even if I noticed he was less active there was still basic activity like drink/eat/poop/flying etc. ( though he didn't bathe or excessively fly ) The benefit of leaving it is, the bird will pull it with limited force so that bones, ligament isn't damaged and he won't hate on you. With parrots thou, I guess that they can more easily do harm.

Hi could you please make a video about what should we do to dry the parrot after bath?
@charleshendrick72667 жыл бұрын
Depends on the bird. Some prefer just to air dry on their own, but on mine I wrap them briefly in a towel to pull out some of the water, then blow dry them with a hair dryer on a low setting, of course careful not to over heat them or concentrate air on their face.

@isibellaantoinette38417 жыл бұрын
You have to get a towel, a large thick towel and place it over the bird and wrap the bird like a burrito, if you have someone else on hand to help hold the bird still even better. It's usually a two person job for a bird that size. Unless you have an amazing relationship with your bird I would not suggest just pulling out a macaw feather like this, you will get bitten! Gloves also can help, even if the bird is in the towel it will still try to bite. They key to an emergency like this is speed, just locating and getting the feather out as quickly as possible to reduce stress and bleeding to the bird. If the bleeding is minimal and not heavy, you can just apply flour to the area and let it clot.
