Ebay/s Refund Policy Seriously Needs Immediate Reform. Yes Buyers do need protection from Bad Sellers. But Good Sellers need protection from Scamming Buyers. At the very least ebay should at least look at cases , at all the facts, the Sellers rating should count for something.

Absolutely agree, I had a buyer purchase something over $800 from me this past year, immediately opened a SNAD and lied in messages that I sent them the wrong items. They purchased an upgraded version of what they had from me and sent me back their old broken units, and the ebay appeals team still sided with them even after talking to over 45 different reps. And yes, I did pursue the issue outside of ebay. In this day in age, you can't hide anymore, so I hope buyers who try to do this understand how much trouble they can get themselves in.

Oh mi god, I had just been through 2 eBay reps, and I was already sick of it. I had a hard time with the scammed buyer, and yet had to turn around to fight with eBay reps. There is definitely no protection or what so ever on Seller side. For my case, the buyer did not send the item back, but I naively processed the refund. I reported this to eBay, they told me they cannot do anything.

@@amytakikawa Yep, unfortunately there is not much you can do except court. Funny but not so funny is that I just had this happen again 2 days ago for a very expensive order. I was in full communication with the buyer the whole time until delivery, I followed up to make sure they were happy, and all was well for about 31 days, right until the return period ended. Then I get a notification saying I have a dispute, and the buyer filed a payment dispute with their bank stating they didn't recognize the transaction. So far it looks like ebays seller protection kicked in, but I had to challenge the dispute and provide screenshots of the conversation and the tracking, it also included signature confirmation, so I think that info helped. eBay's email said they were handling it from there and I wasn't responsible for the amount. They ended up releasing my funds right after that. I guess we'll see what happens in a few days. People are crazy

I am going through this right, buyer wants a FULL refund, and has my item, they told me if they don’t send out the item by the 16th it will cancel, but I’m seeing on my end it’s the 5th of September which is what it was before, eBay doesn’t know what it’s doing. But here’s what gets me, I called eBay themselves, they told me as a seller there’s nothing they can do, but if a buyer calls they can just close the item right away with a full refund even before buyer sends item back like I’m suppose to trust this buyer in good faith, eBay’s TOS is just a disclaimer for their lawsuits they get hit with.

Thank you for the video .I recently sold an antique electric piano on eBay for $2500. The buyer paid through eBay, and I shipped the item from Atlanta to California, covering the packing, shipping, and insurance costs. After receiving the piano, the buyer held onto it for four days before claiming it was broken and demanding a refund. However, despite my requests, the buyer refuses to provide photos of the damage necessary for an insurance claim. eBay's solution is for me to pay for return shipping to facilitate the refund, but I'm hesitant to send money to an uncooperative buyer who won't even provide the required photos. To add to the frustration, eBay is urging me to accept less money, while the customer is insisting on a $500 discount. On top of all this, eBay is also taking over $450 in commission. This experience has definitely made me reconsider selling on eBay in the future.

I’m a small seller, retired & sell to supplement my SS income. I had my first scammer who not only got a return label immediately but wrote a horrible untrue rating about me & the item. I gave them a full refund and NEVER got the item back. My biggest beef is I have years of seller experience at 100%, a new buyer with 3 months scammed me and was able to publish lies& dishonest statements against me? I never got my item back. The buyer kept the item never paying for it and ruining my reputation as a 100% seller! Bill s🍀t!

I had a buyer who ruined my 100% Positive Feedback. They changed there address after buying a $700 item. I got worried the buyer was going to scam me one way or the other since this is a common scam (changing address after purchase). I refused to sell the item after they changed their address because things seemed fishy. 40 days later they left a Negative Feedback. I've reached out to Ebay because it's like the bad person is getting away with ruining my account. I don't get it. I understand exactly what you are saying. Why can't Ebay see who is in the right or at least who deserves the benefit of the doubt.

But I have to tread carefully even tho there's nothing wrong with the shirt but a little lint on one part and she's threatening to leave negative feedback on it even tho it clearly describes everything warns people to ask questions or for more pictures and that there are no returns I still have to tread carefully. A buyer reached out to me a week after the item was delivered. She requested a return, saying that the item she received was not as described. She said that the handle was sheared off. She didn't upload any fotos until 3 days later. I told her that we could make a damage claim, because the item that I shipped was exactly as described. But I also told her that she must have the original shipping box and all contents including the label and packing materials. She threw all of it away, and informed me about 10 days later I contacted her Post Office and she refused to take her item to the post office in her Zip code I tried and called Ebay multiple times and the USPS Started a claim, but it will be denied because she failed to do what she was required to do for a damage claim

I’m a small time seller selling less than $1K/yr. I just got empty-box-return scammed for $500, so that’s huge. I made the mistake of opening a case and now I will probably will lose all $500 plus shipping. I would be angry but may be ok if it were my own item, but I was selling an item for a friend’s grandma. This scammer hurt me, my friend, and her grandma.

This requires a police report for eBay to refund. Just happened with me, sold a 500$ gpu and got returned an empty box. Get all of your info and police report number ready and maybe a few eBay representatives but you’ll get it. I went straight to the police and ic3 report

Ebay has become hell for getting a refund on defective items. Not sure how it goes on seller side, but for a buyer it's like navigating a labyrinth of different pages, links, hidden buttons and overall confusing instructions. One has to have good intuition of what to do next. Ebay net profits range from 2 to 7 Billions every year. This company should create a refund fund, to end this saga between sellers and buyers. If a seller gets too many negatives for faulty items or a buyer is trying too many times to scam, then just remove these from Ebay.

I offer free returns but charge buyer shipping when they buy. They will lose their initial shipping fee so they really have to not want the item to lose money. My merch is all brand new vs used so it works best for me and I think gets me more sales as that is something buyers look for. If I am buying, no free returns makes me look for another buyer with same item before I buy from anyone.

My store is on vacation mode for 30 days. It's to the point where I can sell a few hundred items in a day at the market or a yard sale and pay no fees and deal with no scammers...all cash. Ebay ebbs and flows so Im working with the season the way I have for years. Its just worse this year. I really think ebay might be coming apart at the seams of the old and new technology they tried to patch together. I do hope its fixed soon though. I like sending nice things to nice people 😊

Having no returns is bullshit bullshit bullshit, bullshit. The reason why I used to sell on eBay was because I had the option to not accept returns. And the customer had a choice to either take a chance or not with my items. As soon as this new policy came along, people were returning items for no good reason. My items had clear pictures and descriptions. They just changed their minds or didn’t want to spend the money. Or found the item cheaper somewhere else. If people want to take returns, they can. I chose not to. It’s a shame. I really enjoyed selling on eBay. I have other options now. And I have taken them. I suggest others do too.

I completely agree with you. I have people try to return for horrible reasons. I have one wanting to return a pre-owned shirt for a spot of lint essentially. Even tho I have no returns, all types of disclaimers to thoroughly check pictures, ask more questions or for more pictures. Clothes are used and described to best of my abilities but buyer should thoroughly check pictures and size. And still this lady wants a full refund AND me to pay shipping when I said I'd give her a refund of the shirt. Smh

I have a buyer who is requesting a refund for a shipment received not as described. Her item apparently arrived damaged. I made a claim through USPS. She was instructed exactly what to do. She threw away the box, all the shipping materials and refused to take the item to her Post Office to be examined.

Unfortunately, the buyer is not required to cooperate with us when we file a damaged item claim through USPS. Sadly, USPS knows this and is counting on this being the case. No matter who you go through for insurance, whether it is your car insurance or in this case USPS insurance, they will do whatever they can to avoid paying. Which is why damaged item claims are very difficult to win whereas it has been my experience USPS pays quickly on lost item claims. In this case, you can choose to refund without her sending it back (provided she showed you photos of the damage) or have her open a return and put the onus back on the buyer to send it back.

To game the "no returns" policy, all the buyer has to do is click -Item is defective or does not match the description. Just making that claim is all the required. I had a case where the buyer in Ebay messages admitted he ordered the wrong part but because he clicked the box blaming me (seller) Ebay told me it would rule in his favor. This buyer also claimed he shipped the item back to me (on his own label) I refunded it because I was at the deadline and didnt want ebay to refund him and charge me a return label. He never shipped it back. On the upside, he is also a seller of similar items, I plan to do the same thing back from another account.

I've just had a buyer claim an item is not as described but I strongly disagree to that. But because they've selected that I now have to either let them keep it, or foot the bill for them to send it back. And I know if I pay for the return it's going to come back damaged. So I'm screwed either way.

I've been selling on eBay for almost 10 years and recently a buyer claimed an item was damaged and I offered a partial refund. After he refused, the buyer lodged a report and my options to accept the refund disappeared and it was deemed that he gets the full refund and gets to keep the $370 item and I not only lost that, but also my free shipping. I tried to appeal to eBay with additional photos of me packing the stuff (and saying I'm new to returns) but they won't budge. Is there anything I can do? I kept telling eBay that I have an exemplary record for nearly 10 years and I have photos and videos of packing the item but they won't hear me out. :(

I sold a brand new coffee and the scammer put a fake address on and he added a safeplace to the delivery company and told them to leave it in front of the door, he then waited outside for the delivery and took the item from in front of the door. He then started a return request and sent back a different item. So, now I can't even report him to the police because he used a fake address.

Question if you or someone else can answer ASAP please upon reading this comment. So I (the seller) just sold an item for $850 on eBay the buyer bout it and his order came up to be $1,011. The item was shipped out perfectly intact and packaged correctly, and then the buyer sent me pictures of the item being damaged upon delivery. Now the buyer wants a refund of $900. I had received a total amount of $732 paid out to me for selling the item. How is it fair or possible that I have to pitch in an extra $200 basically plus the money that I had received for selling said item as a refund? To me that’s really unfair since I never received $900, I only got $732. Also is there a way we can put blame on the delivery service for damaging my item I sold to the buyer? If someone can please help me out with solving this situation I would truly appreciate it. Thank you, looking forward to hearing from someone asap

Well, let’s first hope that you insured it for the amount the buyer paid, or the value of the item (the sale price of the item). If you did, and the buyers is willing to cooperate with some photos to show damage of the box and the item, you would then go in and open a damaged item claim through the carrier. Now if the buyer is asking you for a $900 partial refund you should stop and wonder why would they even wanna keep the item for any price. I would say that you’re better off asking for them to open a return for them to send the item back if you’re not going to go through with the damaged item claim. If you never insured the item beyond the hundred dollars then that’s all the Carrier going to offer you. as for refunding money to the buyer, the buyer paid $$1000 then hard for me to understand how you only received 732 in your account unless you were promoting it such a high rate that essentially that’s all you ended up getting. Now if you refund a buyer Ebay will give you back your fees for the portion your refunding so even though your account doesn’t have 900 if you refunded 900 Ebay would be losing those fees and you would only be responsible for the amount you received if that makes sense. Go into your account and check to see how much they collected in fees from that sale.

Yesterday I had an unusual return experience. Buyer opened a return on a computer part- claimed did not fit - even showing in the description the models this item will fit. Sent a return label thru eBay. Next thing I know I am getting an email from eBay to say that those funds are on hold. Then within the next 6 hrs I get another email from eBay telling me not to ship or refund this buyer and that they have closed his account. I thought that was a positive move on eBay’s part in favor of the seller.

Had a buyer get his card. He says he had to pay extra shipping to get it from post office. It was a trading card in a regular top loader was only 1/2 oz. In weight. eBay standard envelope was all needed for the card under $20. So shipping was $.64. Now he wants a refund for $.48 for what he says he paid. Have you ever had this issue?

Yes, we sell electronics and returns was an issue. Until we started posting the serial number of the item in the listing and photos of it. Returns almost totally ended. Except for this buyer that opened a not as described just to facilitate a return. I am sure we will have something else in the future but eBay taking the fees on the return sucks on top of shipping bath ways. Its always the most expensive items. Never the under $20 items it seems.

I hope your video will help me out. I bought a model kit and on opening it found there were parts missing. I have contacted the seller and his reply is that's not possible it is brand new unopened. I took video of it being opened and said I can upload it on here. Now another idea comes to mind. if I send it back he can compare the sent out weight to the returned weight. He lists another brand new kit at the moment, so he can compare the weight to that one.

@@cedarcam send back what you received. If he deducts up to 50% eBay gives you 10 business days to either accept or dispute the return. Dispute the return and eBay will cover you and refund your money (provided you don’t have a history of this). I think that is what eBay looks at more than anything else.

I actually sold one iteam on eBay and it’s only been 15 days and the buyer requested for refund and said it’s defective. Now I have mentioned on my eBay seller that buyer pays the return but now eBay asking to provide the label so I have 3 choices. 1. Upload your own label 2. Confirm you sent a label 3. As I dont but you find out over time even tho you don't take returns ebay finds a way that you Do take returns...🤣 🤣 🤣 Another fallacy of ebay can describe every flaw even if not a flaw just a mfg defect but anyone out there thinking they return free bc dont take returns you falsely thinking bc you will and have to. Now depending on the return if its not item not described just doesn't fit or wrong size you won't have to pay the shipping to or from but be careful there also bc negative feedback is way worse than just refunding them and eating the cost of doing business. Getting returns is the worst when you're a new seller Because it's difficult to take such a loss, but as you grow and expand and you eventually become a large full-time seller earning a decent living It's just the cost of doing business. In comparison to the 1% of people who scam or make returns, they are outweighed by the other sales you make. And unfortunately it is the cost of doing business. You bet definitely need better seller protection. Because these scammers have definitely got not a hand nor may. I would experience less than 1% and now the last year or so. I've been experiencing two percent returns slash people trying to scam

A buyer can file item not as described and force s return if they want even if you have “no returns” selected. If they do this you will have to pay for the return label and accept the return.

With returns never refund anything before you get the item back. This way you get a chance to make sure the item is the same and same condition before you refund them.

Great subject 💯 agree it sucks but it going to happen. I have a question about a return I’ve been reselling 2009 I had my first request for a return for a item list for (repair or parts) How should I handle this ? because it also is forcing me to buy label I probably would return item if that wasn’t the case because in my other listings I have buyer pays for return. Just confused why this would even come up as a return? (Definitely calling rep but usually doesn’t go in the sellers favor)!

Even with parts or repair a buyer can force a return. Unfortunately accept the return but I wouldn’t refund the original shipping however

Had scammer who took a dodgy photo and claimed the camera camcorder door was broken and wanted me to pay for the repair of it if he took it to a repair shop. I take video of all my expensive items before posting and also I film the date on my Google home so it cant be doctored, and it shows item works perfectly. Told the buyer this and that I had his address as well and would report him to eBay and the police for fraud. He stopped communicating, A week later I heard nothing about this so called broken camera.

First return request and I'm not taking personally, but I do have some questions. First, your video was so, so helpful. 1. The item returned was not the item I sent. It is similar, but clearly, this item was already used and it not the one I sent. 2. Where can I find the percentages list? 3. Is it worth it to report abusive buyer? It looks like you have to full refund and then wait for ebay to decide.

The guidelines on how much eBay wants you to deduct is under help and contact in eBay’s website. I have learned if you’re not deducting 50% from the refund it’s not worth it because when you use the refund tool to refund anything less than 100% eBay does not return your selling fees.

Yeah i got scammed. Buyer request refund while item STILL in transit. And reason for refund is item not as described. They noticed, but they just dont care. Buyer got the item and money!!

I got a message from a Buyer today about a chip in the item they received. They said they were going to leave me Negative Feedback as it had a chip. I was not aware of the chip. I am always careful to check when I am buying and check again before I ship. They said nothing about returning the item. I do have calculated shipping with Free Returns. So, there should be no reason they don't send it back. I asked them to please send the item back and I would send full refund with shipping. I would rather get the item back and NOT get negative Feedback. I have not heard back from them. Am I doing the right thing? This would be my first negative feedback. I let them know this and apologized about missing the 'chip'. Here is the message they sent me. "Hello. I just received my order. It's a lovely pitcher. Unfortunately it has a chip that was not disclosed in the listing. The review will reflect this." Thanks for all your information, Wren

If you already sent them a message stating they can return the item back for a full refund and they do not utilize it then there is nothing you can do and as for the feedback if you offer 60days free return they cant leave a neg feedback also I think you have to have a ebay standard store to utilize this feature and not the basic store (but I might be wrong since it has been over 20000 years since i has a basic store) but the also you can try calling eBay CS when you see the neg feedback hit your feedback section and explain to them that you offered in the massages you have offered and stated you accept and offer free returns and they still havent used it and gave you a neg feedback and you want it removed on the basis of feedback abuse. There is no reason you should get a neg feedback if you offed to make the situation right and offer free returns to receive that feedback....something in those lines...and if you get someone who you cant understand or they cant understand hanf up call again until you get a US rep or some with who can spell Engrishh correctly. Hope this helps just my 4 cents good luck.

I had a new pair of purple timberlands I sent to a guy, Lamar, with a 11 feedback, where that buyer had ME buy a $21 return label because the buyer claimed mildew on the laces. This was a lie. The guy never returned the boots! Another got mad and said not as described because the sleeve was rolled up! One sleeve was also rolled up in the photos! This was a brand new shirt. Guy asked for a “partial refund”, I said no, if you don’t want it, you send it back! I still had to pay for a shipping label. The buyer has buyers remorse or something, snd decided to lie that it wasn’t as described.

Here’s a cool one: Buyer says item was missing power cord and wants to send the item back with no communication. I send a prepaid label and they ship it back with their own label, to themselves. Now I am forced to refund the money because I the return period is up and eBay auto drafts the refund money. Win win. 🏆

I had 2 in 1 day after not receiving any for a long time. 1. Had a buyer return a dress saying bought on accident after having the dress for over a week. That is buyer's remorse. If it was an accident, you could cancel the putchase immediately. 2. Buyer sent blurry pictures and said INAD stating it has stains and I did not make note. I otwm did not have any stains you can clearly see the listing. They stated that in the message they do not want to pay for shipping return. I'm just waiting to see what the item looks like when I get it back.

hey, just wanted to let you know I have gotten the $6 shipping label credit on the 2 INADs I have had this past year. They take weeks to arrive so i initially didn't think I was getting them. But they suddenly appeared in my account about a month after each case closed. I didn't have to call ebay or anything. I've only needed them twice so maybe there is a limit to how many times you can claim it.

The last 3 US reps I asked about this don’t seem to be aware of it even though it is mentioned in policy. As you said it sounds like an automated process that the reps aren’t involved with. I received one credit over a year ago and I always report the buyer when there is a problem.

@@FlippinAintEasy I don't think the reps are really involved in it so I didn't bother asking them. I believe they are automatically credited every month or so like how they process the store subscriptions monthly. I found the credits in the Payments tab in seller hub when I filtered to "Adjustments". The first credit I got was for an INAD I refunded 12/28 and it was credited over a month later on 2/3, states it was for the time period "Dec 24-Jan 23". Like I said I've only gotten 2 of these in the past year so I don't know if there is a limit to how many times you can do it.

You don't only loose the shipping to them and the return label. eBay deducts the entire price from you account. The apparently do not refund the eBay fees on their end. So eBay is the only winner. I contacted customer service and was told to not issue the refund, to wait for the review. The problem is eBay didn't even watch the video with the evidence of the return. The only person that watched it was the buyer when I posted the link in the response as directed by eBay customer service. The video is still at 1 view since posting it. I got the message it was being reviewed then like 30 seconds later they closed the case and refunded the buyer. So much for customer service.

Yep....I just had my first return because of item not described correctly. Didn't understand the how too's on the policy as I don't sell very often. Issued a refund on a NO RETURN item and seller hasn't returned the item. Ebay says, "so sorry, case closed", you issued a refund. So now the scammer has the money and the item. Ebay will not even allow me to throw a negative mark against his account. I how word doesn't get out about this because shop lifting in person will become a thing of the past.

I shipped a laser printer to ca. sent damaged pics got a return. It was shipped back from charlotte nc. I asked what to do. I was told I was covered from seller protection and let the refund expire. I did but do not know if I will get any headaches out of it. It was totally damaged

If a buyer starts a return based on defective/not as described and you message the buyer to please respond by sending pictures. Does that count as a response to the buyer's return request? Does that add more time to your deadline? If you do not respond by the deadline and the buyer escalates does escalation mean it's become a case? or do you still have the opportunity to approve a return?

There’s nothing wrong with trying to communicate with the buyer once a return request is opened however you need to approve the return and/or provide them with a return label but the date eBay gives you or the buyer can call in after that date too open a case which will result in a refund to the buyer without them returning your item. Also you will receive a defect in your account which hurts your sales.

Just had this happen to me yesterday; customer received multiples of the same item, then without reaching out directly opens a return/not as described claiming the items are counterfeit and insulting our integrity and demanding a full refund or they’ll have our account banned from eBay. We replied to them kindly and proved the authenticity of the items with irrefutable evidence. Had they only reached out and asked for a return would likely would have, but wish we didn’t have to based upon principal. Always someone trying to work an angle 🤦♂️

Need some advice here. We just receive our first issue with a buyer messaging us that the item was packed poorly which is a lie. We ensure proper packing and we double box this item. Also we even recorded our process. Any advice how to go on about this?

Is the buyer claiming the item was damaged? If so have them send photos. Chances are you did everything right and the package was mishandled from the carrier. Ultimately, let them know they have the option to return the item. I also ask them what they are looking to do. This will bring out those buyers who are fishing for a partial. If the buyer leaves a negative and have come out asking for a partial refund yet won’t return the item, if they leave a negative feedback their re request is grounds for removal since buyers are not supposed to do that. Bottom line it to communicate with your buyer in a timely manner and usually you can figure out what their intentions are pretty quick.

I just sold some artwork was on eBay auction. The post stated it was a photograph and the customer offered 400 dollars, once he received it he stated that he thought perceived it was a Antique. I never stated it was an antique no where on the posting. So he filed a claim that the post didn’t match the picture, but it clearly does. Should I give him his money with a fight?

Great video! I am glad that I found your channel after searching on YT about returns and buyers who scam us sellers. I wonder if you'd be willing to give me your suggestion to a situation I am dealing with. A buyer filed an INAD claim and based on his photos of the "damage", it is obvious to me that he sent photos from an item that I did not send him. I've called his bluff and even reported the buyer to ebay, but from what I've read ebay won't do anything about me reporting the buyer. I've asked the buyer to send additional photos proving his claim, and he hasn't done so (no surprise because he knows he's lying to me). Based on what you said in your video, it seems that I need to take my medicine and allow the scammer, er, buyer to return the item to me, so that ebay doesn't step in and refund the buyer while also showing this as a defect on my ebay sellers account. Do you think that I should do this (allow the return) and just accept this as a cost of doing business on ebay?

If the buyer opens a “not as described” return you don’t have any choice but to accept the return. The alternative is to ignore the request and eBay will step in, refund the buyer and the buyer keeps the item. Plus they give you a defect on your account. Avoid this at all costs. When the buyer sends you back the different item, go into the refund and deduct 50% from the refund amount. Then report the buyer. It’s pretty much all you can do and it sucks.

You can either purchase the eBay label on the return screen or go to Pirsteship or say FedEx and buy a return label that you then have to manipulate (save in the proper format) to send to the buyer through the same refund screen.

Literally take pics when packing items for shipping. Also use the item's photos instead of stock images. Be as descriptive as you can in the item description. Always do everything in messages when discussing with buyers. Never do anything outside of ebay. Also tracking information is used on 100% of all cases. Ensure you upload them or send them to buyers in messages so ebay has a record of it. They can see all messages.

I'm pisswd three customers bought the same air gun I shipped all three both buyers recieved items I got paid third buyer requested a refund and I never recieved the person money or pay out and eBay took the 45$ out of my other sell from a different customer and the guy only paid 38$ I never recieved the 38$ and eBay took 45$ out of my balance of payouts I'm fkn pissed coming out of my own pocket eBay should sent him his little 38$ that was on hold why does it come out of my other money?

I'm an ebay buyer, and I'm returning an item not as described. Actually, it´s missing parts and it's also damaged. The item was listed as new, so a opened a return request the same day the item arrived. The seller responded within a few hours and apologized blah blah blah... and agreed a full refund and I could keep the item, he no longer needed it in the shape it was. So, the thing is he is asking me to close the return request in order to issue a full refund, since (according to him) ebay expects the tracking number provided for the return label to be fulfilled in order to issue a refund (I don't even see any return label since buyer has not accepted it). Please help me on that, I'm afraid if I close the return I wont be able to open it again in case the buyer decide no the honor the refund, since it's in the ebay rules It's not possible to open a return request a 2nd time. Thank you.

I have a quick question. I sell on multiple platforms and do not do free shipping. Sometimes buyers lie and make up reasons for a return trying to blame me (the seller) for doing something wrong. They say "item too small" when I shipped out the correct size. (I photograph all outbound shipments so I know what was sent.) When you run across a situation like this and the buyer opens a return falsely claiming "item not as described", when the item comes back...do you have to refund their outbound shipping? What is the best way to handle this?

Yes. Unfortunately you are required to refund everything with an INAD return. Only if the buyer returns something different or different condition can you deduct up to 50% (in that case I would withhold original shipping).

Had my first one and the issue is that it was a NIB item of men's cologne and they openly admitted to opening it and trying it out and that it didn't look like their bottle that had been open for years and years. The #1 ingredient is alcohol so yes, the color and everything can change over time and mine was unopened so mine was light in color and theirs was much older and darker and more used up and alcohol can dissipate along with the fact it's essential oils, but now I no longer have a NIB item and I have a "gently used" item and they marked it as Not as described when it's the exact picture of what was in my picture to send them and made allegations about me "watering down" the item. I don't think they will be happy when I have to take a % because it's now opened and they are a new account with little feedback.

Bee careful when using the refund tool. If you take anything less than 50% it’s not worth doing. Reason being is when you use the refund till you don’t get your seller fees back on the sale. If you refund in full eBay gives you back your selling fees. Something to consider.

I sold my old DJ controller. Absolutely no issues with it. (Sold as described) The buyer has had it for a few weeks now, and wants a return because it’s not compatible with the system he uses. (Even though all you need to do is download a different software. It’s easy.) He messaged me saying there was nothing wrong with the unit, but that he wants a return. Do I have to honor it? When I sold it, it said returns not accepted.

Depends on your return policy for that item and what the buyer uses for a return reason. If you have 30 day returns then yes you have to accept the return, if you have no returns set for the listing then you only have to accept the return of the buyer chooses “item not as described” or “arrived damaged”. Even then the buyer can request a return fora rai reason such as” changed mind “ and you have the option to accept or decline the return.

What do you mean fail to respond? If they say it’s damaged or not as described you can’t do anything except wait for it to come back or refund them instantly and cut your losses. Sometimes these are scams anyway so you should wait.
