I purchase an item on Ebay for $104.00 for an old dishwasher, then changed my mind because it was becoming too expensive to piece together a 25-year-old dishwasher. Being honest when I should have checked item didn't work. which would have been a free return. Now for me to send it back it would cost me (the buyer) more than double what I paid for the rack. LESSON LEARNED!

Great content I appreciate your experience and knowledge on this particular subject because it does get frustrating especially when a buyer lies about the item and you pretty much have to suck it up so you don’t get negative feedback. It would be great if eBay could support us more as sellers when things like this happens because the negative feedback can completely dismantle your store and ability to sell. I completely agree!! on Poshmark, it is much more seller friendly. On ebay, we live in fear of the negative feedback. I did recently learn about an app that you can use and pay to get negative feedback removed. I have never tried it. It just shows what lengths ebay seller have to go to!! Quenby

Very helpful. I especially agree with not taking things personally. So many resellers do that with all aspects of reselling. Like being insulted by a lowball offer or blocking somebody for it. We’re blocking them for a four star rating instead of a five star. In the size thing, it sounds like she is saying that it is not the size you said it was which would be an INAD. SHe said size not as stated, as in, you stated it was a certain size and it is not that size.

My return policy will be updated to accept returns. I had someone damage/knife the soles of a pair of shoes just to get them returned. I was sad since I was selling my mother's shoes. But it is a part of being a reseller.

This is why I stopped selling anything expensive or valuable on Ebay. I only list cheap items on there. Poshmark gets my best stuff because they have the best seller protection.

I'm pretty sure my buyer just opened the parcel after eating a pack of cheesels or something cos there's yellow marks all over it. They're blaming me of course. Had to ask 3 times for photos and they told me I'm being difficult, so pretty sure I've got a neg coming. It's the only feedback they ever leave

Thank you for another informative eBay video, I'm inching closer to crosslisting again on eBay. It's hard to take the emotion out of it especially when you know it's not you who did something "wrong", there are a ton of shady ppl out there, lol! It makes me want to not offer returns but I know that's not good customer service.

I totally hear you. It is hard to take the emotion out of it. Sometimes, if I have an emotional response, I just don't text, talk or type until I am 100% clear. Then I can say the right thing when I am calm. Personally, I tried NO RETURNS and it was a disaster but what is awesome is you get to do what you want to do. xoxo Quenby

Returns are a stressful matter, especially since I'm brand new to ebay and all of the rules are head spinning and unnecessarily overwhelming in my opinion. Thank you for your calm demeanor - I don't know why it wasn't recommended in more of the 'ebay for newbies' videos I watched to turn ON returns because it actually makes your life easier, contrary to popular belief!

Well said! That is my personal opinion too. It makes it easier because then buyers are not claiming "item not as described" which hurts your account. I have shifted my MINDSET and just say "returns happen. No big deal" and move on with my life. Yes, sometimes they are unfair but that is life. It's a good point. You can select "no returns" but Ebay can push a return through and if the buyer ever puts "item not as described INAD" Ebay automatically accepts the return. This is why I just accept returns.

Ebay does it. You dont have to do anything. Ebay will send the buyer a label once the return is accepted. Xo Quenby

hi, question: my buyer said item not described and also commented that the item doesn't meet the description. But in fact Item DOES meet description. I just feel they read it incorrectly. I went ahead and requested a return and paid for a return label for them. So what i'm trying to understand is since i paid for a return label do they have to print out a label themselve's and send it back or how would that work? Or do i need to send them a label through the mail for them to use ?

I have never heard of a SELLER requesting a return. When the buyer says Item Not As Described Ebay automatically accepts the return and Ebay sends the return label to the buyer. The seller doesn't send the label ebay does. You only pay for the label if the buyer actually uses it and sends the item back to you. Do NOT refund the buyer until they send it back and you look it over. Hope this helps Quenby

I had a return with the buyer falsely claiming it was defective. It was a Golf GPS device and they said their state's golf courses weren't loaded when they were as shown in the photos. I reported the buyer and will try and deduct the shipping costs from the refund but not sure that's possible. Not worried about negative feedback as ebay removes it if it's false.

argh I'm so sorry, most of us seller have been in a similar situation. The sad truth is that once a buyer claims "item not as described" there is not too much a seller can do. Ebay won't let you deduct the shipping costs for an INAD case, and ebay will not remove the negative feedback, even if the buyer is lying. Ebay will only remove the feedback for the reasons I listed in the video (basically slander or threats) I don't like this about ebay, but it's just the way it goes selling on the platform and I think it's worth selling there. I have a returns accepted buyer pays return shipping policy. Though a buyer wanted to return an item because "changed mind" and thus they should pay for return shipment in this case I wanted to pay for their return shipment because they seemed distressed that they had bought an item they didn't need by mistake. Will the eBay system let me pay for return shipping when the buyer puts in the reason "changed mind." Thanks!

Not that I am aware of because ebay uses our Return Policy to generate the label that goes to the buyer when they open a return. You can choose to pay for the "original shipping" but not for the Return Shipping.

argh..... I know, it is so frustrating when buyers do not read. It happens all the time too. You could contact ebay and see if you can get someone from Customer Service on your side. You could reach out the the buyer and ask them to read your description and try to work it out with them. Good Luck! Quenby

Before the return interface is made available, a buyer reaches out to the seller asking for a return. How many days does the seller have to respond to this initial message? Does this time count in the total time window the buyer has to send out the returned item?

No. There is no set time that a seller has to return ebay messages. Once the buyer officially starts a return through Ebay and gets the label from Ebay to ship it back, the clock starts ticking bc now Ebay is involved and Ebay monitors the return. I always refund the buyer as soon as I get the return back. Ebay sends me plenty of reminders to refund the buyer once tracking shows it was delivered to me. I have never tested to see how long I have to refund. If a seller doesn't eventually refund, ebay will do it.

I have had a return request where it seems that the buyer didnot fully read the description. Her comment was that she thought the item was for children. Which it was however Ebay has charge me the shipping return cost. On my listing I have the the buyer pays the return shipping. What could I do or should of done to have this return shipping paid for by the buyer?

This happens frequently. If the buyer thinks it is your fault, then Ebay will accept the return and require you to pay the shipping. Many times it's not fair. You could open a case with Ebay and see if they will side with you. In my Personal experience they usually side with the buyer. Xo Quenby

I always respond and FAST. If they open an "item not as described " case Ebay will accept it automatically no exceptions and it hurts your seller rating. Try and work it out with the buyer. Have a professional conversation and see what they have to say. Keep me posted Quenby

What do you do if: The buyer give you a negative rating BEFORE your return process even starts.. I listed the item as : For parts or not working.. Absolutely Not Working.. NO RETURNS.. ... They complained saying its broken and wants their money back..

You have choices such as calling Ebay but I would 1st message the buyer. Be professional and explain what it said in your listing. Ask them politely to review the original listing since you wrote parts only. See if you can work it out. Ask them kindly to remove the negative because you did nothing wrong and it hurts your small business. Good luck! QUENBY

ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS.." 2 Days ago.. with no response.. An ebay phone call couldn't hurt.. In the years i've been selling Ebay has never ruled in my favor (as a seller) tho..

How to print a label as a selller on eBay and send it to buyer I actually sold one iteam on eBay and eBay asking to provide the label so I have 3 choices. 1. Upload your own label 2. Here is the USA, I never print a label and send it to the buyer. It is all done electronically through ebay. 1. The buyer starts a return through eBay. 2. EBay automatically generates the label and emails it to the buyer. That's it. You don't have to do anything else.

The Ebay Return label is generated by ebay. Ebay creates the label once a return is accepted and sends it to the buyer

How do you contact Ebay to challenge their decision on a return, say- if the buyer isn't being honest?

You can ask ebay to step in and help you if you go into the return details there is a link, you can also google the steps if it's easier. Ebay will then review the return. To my honest, In my personal experience, ebay usually sides with the buyer, so you might want to prepare for that, but I understand if you want to fight it on principal. Good luck, quenby

I gave my first refund to an eBay customer and I tried to refund the full amount meaning item, shipping, sales tax. When I put that full amount in, eBay would not allow me to return the 'sales tax' portion of the sale. It gave me a 'refund amount not valid' notice and the difference of what I was trying to refund and what eBay would refund was the sales tax. Is this normal??

Hi Judy, The customer will get a 100% refund. I am not familiar with that exact situation with the sales tax, ebay might cover the sales tax since they collect it and deal with sales tax for buyers. xo Quenby

What if you have a package that was damaged, on the way to buyer and you have shipping insurance. What do you do than?

Contact the post office or whoever you used for carrier. If THEY damaged it, not you, and you have insurance, like with usps priority mail, you go on down to the post office and sort it out and they should cover it.

Whenever a buyer puts "doesn't work or defective" ebay automatically accepts the return and you the seller, have to pay shipping.

I got a return request, denied it because the customer had the item for 6 weeks. The buyer opened a dispute and I lost, $60 for the item and $20 for a fee, plus the item. Mind you the customer had the item for a month and a half. I appealed the decision and eBay said no. I have no item and I’m out $80. I pulled all my listings and gave eBay the middle finger. I’ll be trying bepop and other platforms. No it’s not emotional it’s about protection and principal. eBay is more loyal to scammers then an honest seller.

Hi, I had an INAD return because the item was broken through shipping. Ebay closed the case in favor of the buyer but I did not received the item. Ebay deducted the sale from me but still have not get my item worth $1100 which the buyer provide tracking number that is now not able to track via ebay system. Can you help advice the path forward?

I Would contact ebay customer service. I have never heard of ebay taking the money out of anyone's account before the item is returned. What usually happens is that Ebay accepts the return for INAD automatically, but the buyer has to ship it back and it has to show as delivered and THEN the seller has to refund the buyer. Are you 100% that the $ was deducted from your account? Did you check? That is not the procedure.

I an new to selling on ebay. I sold a pair of 2006 Nike Air Jordan shoes, physical appearance was like new. He wore them for a few weeks and a sole fell off. That is a risk with vintage tennis shoes. I had listed final sale, no returns listed, ebay closed the case. He opened another case, not as advertised. Do I return the $320 or contest it?

I would contact Ebay and talk to an actual person. Not just email Ebay through the app but talk to someone. I have never heard of a customer being able to open ANOTHER case once the original is closed. Doesn't sound right. You should not have to return the money after the customer wore them for for a week!

@@TheGratefulQueen I very much appreciate your rapid response. I do have some time to talk to ebay. As to filing a second case, the response I got from ebay is he contested the sale with his bank. He claimed they were not as advertised. We'll see, I'll let you know what ebay decides.

I have free returns. It seems impossible for me to find out how much I, " the seller " is paying for that item to be returned. There's no info showing how much i'm paying for the item to be returned back to me. Any advice?

That is an interesting question. I don't have offer free returns so i have not run into this. I"ll look into it. I would assume it would be on your ebay statement as a deduction.

So what happens when you have a video game return that You sold for north of $275 and you tested the item before you sold it and even showed screen shots of yourself playing it on your tv., The buyer waits 2 weeks to say the item was defective or damaged and wants to return for a full refund.

Personally, I would Call Ebay!!! Don't email or chat with ebay, just call them. Explain your story and your evidence and hopefully you get an ebay worker who will protect you. In my personal experience, ebay sides with the buyer, but I have had better luck calling and talking to someone. Keep me posted. Quenby

Can you please make a video on how to print a return shipping label? Buyer wants to return, but I have to pay for the return shipping, and it's so very confusing :( and if I don't soon, buyer will get the money and the items! I am certainly dealing with an abusive buyer...

YOU do not have to print the return label!! Don't worry. Ebay handles all that for you. Once you accept the return, or ebay accepts it automatically , then EBAY emails them a label. The customer prints the label at home. YOU DON"T manually pay for the label OR print it out or send it. Ebay sends everything to the buyer. Does that help?? Quenby

@@ravinduj7209 You accept the return . Do NOT refund the buyer until they send it back and you inspect the item. When you accept the return, ebay sends the buyer a label. You don't have to do anything. Sorry for late response, this was hidden another a reply and not a new comment. Quenby

How do I avoid paying for an additional shipping label when I don't want the item to be sent back to me? I refunded a buyer, and the amount of the shipping label was added to what I owed. Since I pay for the shipping label anyway, shouldn't I only give the buyer what they gave me? How do I fix that?

In my experience, I only pay for the return label sent to the buyer WHEN they ship it back if they don't use the label and it is not scanned by usps, then it is not deducted from my account balance. IF the return was my fault, like an item not as described case, I still have to pay the original shipping. Hope this helps. You can reach out to ebay too for help.

Right now, eBay automatically approve return and send paid shipping label to buyer. Seller has no chooses. eBay gave buyer 20 days to return, I worry about buyer return it after use the item. I don’t know if I can issue a partial refund for return reason “wrong item” if buyer return a used item. After delivery, I click “offer refund,” do I have option to issue partial? Many years ago I issued a refund, after I clicked refund, eBay issued a full refund to buyer immediately.

I know, I hear you, this happens on ebay. IF the buyer selects "item not as described" then ebay automatically accepts the return, even if the seller has a "no returns" policy. This makes sense if the buyer received a damaged item then they deserve a free return and a 100% refund. The problem is in cases like yours. I don't think you can offer a partial refund if the buyer chose Item not as described. IF they return it and it's been used, contact ebay for help. Call them, don't email them. Hopefully you get your item back in original condition, but if not call ebay for helpl --Quenby

If you describe it wrong and made a mistake, the buyer can send it back to you with no shipping charge to the buyer. Did the buyer send it back to you already? The first step is always to message the buyer through ebay and try to work out a deal. If you cannot work out a deal with the buyer, call ebay. Ebay can look at the messages sent between you and the buyer so be professional and 1st try to work it out with the buyer.

Yup. That happens. People dont always read. You can message the customer through Ebay and try to work it out , politely and professionally. In my experience its easier to accept the return and relist. Ebay almost always sides with the buyer but you can try calling them. Hope it works out for you. Q

@@TheGratefulQueen recently opened a return case and entered the Tracking Number wrong. Its missing 2 numbers at the end. " Need help as Ive checked the tracking on USPS.com and it shows as Delivered but on the return case it shows up as In transit. How can I fix this?

@@jfrancisco80 you will be covered if it shows "in transit" because it shows that you shipped it and was in the hands of the USPS. you have options: 1. see if you can add details to the return case and add the correct #. 2. call ebay 3. contact the seller through ebay messages and explain and hopefully they are an honest seller and if they got the item they will refund you

I shipped a videogame controller, and had pictures showing the condition. When the buyer received it, somehow the stick on it was floppy and broken. It wasn't shipped in that condition and my pictures prove that. They initiated item not as described. Ebay took the refund from me and asked them to return the item by a certain date. It has been a week and they haven't shipped the item. Have you had any experience with someone who never shipped back an item they complained about?

I have NEVER had ebay take the refund $ from my account before I received the item back. ARe you sure they took the funds from your account? Or did they just accept the return? Double check. In my experience, ebay accepts all returns cases for Item Not As Described. Then, the customer must ship it back to you and you have to evaluate it before refunding the customer.

@The Grateful Queen Ebay put the funds on hold until the item is shipped back to me. However this guy has 8 more days and hasn't communicated at all since initiating the return.

I am not familiar with ebay in India. Are you the buyer or the seller? When the buyer opens a a return, EBAY automatically sends a return label to the buyer. The seller does not have to create a return label, ebay sends it to the buyer,

I am trying to do a partial refund for buyers shipping who wrongly stated not as described. All the instructions on Ebay says just go to the order and use dropdown and select refund. Hi Tina, okay go to your SOLD items. Paid & Shipped. Find the item that you want to partially refund. To the LEFT of the item it says "sell similar" in blue and look right next to Sell Similar, there is a blue arrow (its small) and that will open a drop down menu. Choose "send refund" and then it will open a new window and you can select the amount. LET ME KNOW, DID IT WORK? So sorry about your husband. The buyer gets their money back as soon as the Seller refunds them. The seller gets the item back, then checks to be sure it's in the same condition it was sent out, then refunds the buyer thru the ebay return. It should be as soon as the seller refunds.

I'm not sure what you mean. are you the buyer or seller? I have never had to drag a photo on ebay. I just go under "my purchases" and there is a return request button .

Hello I forgot to take a posting down on eBay for a 200$ item that I sold elsewhere unbeknownst to me someone “bought the item through eBay” I tried to get This canceled which eBay wants me to send them money from my account while they hold the end buyers money on eBay what should I do about this? Yes most of us have done this before if we are selling on multiple platforms. What you are describing is normal policy. You don't have to do anything. The buyer must have already paid and the $200 was already deposited into your account. When you "cancel" the order, the Buyer will be refunded from the money that was already deposited into your account.

@@Joelcebada Yes so they will refund it from the money sitting in your account. It is usually within 24 hours so you don't have to do anything other than write a message to your buy apologizing. You may decide to sell on ebay again one day and so your account should be in good standing right?

HI Qeenby, I don't get that kind of email from eBay. I give 60 day free returns and all I ever get from ebay is a "Your Money Is On Hoid" email. Any idea why?

Yes, you don't get a "return request" email if you automatically accept 60 day free returns. Ebay accepts for you and then they put a hold on the funds until the item is returned. Does that make sense? Thanks!

If you are the buyer and you receive a fake, email the seller and work it out. If you are a seller, don't sell anything fake or you could risk your account.

Are you the buyer or the seller? If you are the buyer and you need a return you need to start a return through eBay under your purchase history and then eBay will automatically send you the label.

Im sick if these idiots on ebay, somebody bought an ONLINE item that i gave to them online, then they demanded a refund and said they ordered it on mistake when THEY JOINED ME in the GAME and took the item the other day after paying me. Im going to handle this situation and make sure i wont give them a refund cause i know they wanna scam me >:(

Yes, that happens every once in awhile on ebay. People don't read everything. Or look at all the pictures. Not too much we can do as sellers but accept the return and move on with our business, in my opinion. If it is the worth the time and effort, you can try to fight the return through ebay. In my experience, ebay sides with buyers so for me it's not worth it but do what works best for you.
