Thank you! I finally did it. I had to select trash instead of clear all, and Google would only delete around 5000 emails at a time (I had over 400,000) so I had to repeat the action until all emails were deleted. Then, I deleted all from the trash. I’m getting emails again, yay!

I managed to get Gmail to connect with my Thunderbird client. No bulk delete in the app as you say (why?) so I went to my PC and cleaned it up - but Gmail isn't listening. Thought a reboot might help but no. I will now commence deleting 792 emails by hand. Not too bad actually, click email, click bin, click next email, half an hour tops hopefully 🙂

Interesting: after I killed about 40 it told me 'You're finished! Nothing in inbox.' Then it filled up again so I was back to deleting. This time I got that message after about ten deletes and after watching for five minutes my inbox is still empty. Maybe it was a question of Gmail only sync-ing with Thunderbird every 15 minutes or something or maybe Gmail has built in a discreet solution that is invoked by the case in question, I don't know. Anyway, hope this helps someone.

I have had some success with typing '-shopping' (minus shopping) after every search. Maybe you should do a video on how to stop Google and its 'Assistant' filling all your searches with shopping.
