Colt, just wanna help out with some information. For you and everyone. The purpose of a Closed Crankcase Ventilation is to relieve pressure in the bottom end of a motor, the crankcase, while reducing emissions. This pressure comes from blow by, which is combustion gases that make it by the piston rings. This also mixes with oil vapor/mist(created by moving parts) and water vapor that is also a byproduct of combustion. If you were to block of a CCV system this would create positive pressure in the crankcase. This will shorten the life of seals and gaskets inevitably causing an oil leak as you mentioned. So we can agree crankcase ventilation is a good thing. Many years ago these systems were open and vented to the atmosphere through a little filter on the valve cover more often than not. Emission standards came about and now we have closed crankcase ventilation. These systems more or less "recirculate" your crank case pressure by introducing these gases/vapor into your intake/turbo and back into the combustion chamber to be burned. What this does if effectively evacuate the crank case of pressure because the intake pulls a slight vacuum on the crankcase. This keeps your seals lasting longer and emissions lower. Now as you mentioned these ccv filters can get clogged and wreak havoc. I want to clarify that you removing the oil cap with the truck running is not an indication of the ccv filters level of blockage, but rather an indication of blow by. Every truck will have some blow by so dont worry. And old trick is to place the oil cap upside down on the oil fill and see if the blow by/crankcase pressure is enough to blow the cap off. This would indicate potentially larger issues. I could see your oil cap test work in theory however if you went to take the cap off while running and there was a big initial puff that proceeded to level out. That specifically could indicate a blockage with the ccv filter. But back to CCV. Instead of deleting the system, making people upset and given diesel owners a bad name, i suggest getting a ccv baffled filter. This filter will seperate the liquids from the gases, keeping the sludge out of your intake/turbo/top end etc. And allowing you to maintenance your baffled filter by draining it at regular intervals. This is really a win for everyone. I understand these systems can be expensive but they are worth it compared to deletes and reroutes into the exhaust. Deletes will give you an oil smell that is unpleasant and leave drips on the ground. This open hose also allows moisture potentially into your crankcase. Another think to look out for would be potential clogging with snow, ice or dirt. Blockages could result in increased crankcase pressure. An improper reroute into your exhaust could also result in a crankcase pressure increase, which would negate the purpose of crankcase ventilation all together. I know not everyone is a diesel mechanic, but please research as much as possible before guiding the masses. It appears your channel has the potential to do just that. I appreciate your content and willingness to help others. Hope this helps someone.
@COLTSWAY2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback brother. I do understand what you are saying. And the smell is pretty bad sometimes. I think I will go with a SPE CCV. ITS GOT A internal catch can to keep the oil from dripping out. I haven’t had any oil drips or anything but some people do. It also is supposed to help the smell. I prob won’t be putting on a baffled one though. But would be something I would consider for next time or on a different truck. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it. 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

I'm curious about doing this, just a thought, couldn't someone just remove the hose from the CCV box, replace with a properly fitted hose, run that hose to the back of the truck, find a properly fitting cap for the intake side and be done. This way you have a catch can(CCV BOX) and venting to the atmosphere instead of the engine. Seems like it would work and save money.

I think if i have to remove the cab it will only cost me two extra hr for that part of the re and re. P.S. dont use an air hamer to get the cab bolts off you will jus strip the part that hold the body or cage nut in place then you will need a partner half to remove carpet and the back seat etc...

@@COLTSWAY good work man. Looks like we have very similar goals and fun activities planned for our trucks! 😂 I ripped out my EGR this weekend from the front yard of a campground in Central Illinois (Liberalville USA). It was quite satisfying to do it here. I felt like even more of a rebel. Lol

You should also get an internal catch can for the ccv delete. It stops oil from dripping out of the hose and it stops the smell of oil coming from your motor

Might just have to do that! 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

Hey colt had a question what an update on the truck I have a 2018 and am wanting to do all the same engine upgrades and deletes however wondering about what you’ve seen in your mileage category

Well if I would keep my foot out of it I’d get alot better. I only average 14 but I’m on 37x13.50x20 and don’t really do any highway driving. I have just a short commute to work. 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

In your state, do you have to pass a visual inspection. I am in California, and not sure if to pass inspection that they would look for the CCV box. How do you deal with smog and inspections in your state. If I have to, I will hollow the box out to hide the delete.

We don’t have emissions testing in my state. Couldn’t pay me to like in comiforma 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

@COLTS WAY I agree, I just closed my business and looking for property in Texas. This state is in poor shape

Colt, I wonder if there is a way to leave box installed and have hose drilled in box to vent off. Some of us in certain states can't take all the crap off and pass smog

I’ve had my ccv done for almost 2 years and still no smoke unless it’s really cold out and still no smell. I zip-tied mine up to the right of the shock on the metal part. If I had more hose like yours I would've ran mine farther back just in case.

Mine isn’t smoking as of yet. Hope it stays like this! 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
