I 100% agree with delivering a cake via the lap! With hills and sharp turns holding it allows you to compensate for those things rather than just crossing your fingers.

I agree, Tracey it's so stressful I also carry them on my lap in the car because I know they are secure. Xx👍👍👍

I have a Jessie who drives while I hold the cake box on my knees. Its the most secure method for me AND I'm close to the AC vents if I'm sitting in the front. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one delivering cakes like that!

Yes it does seem we are a minority, but I just wouldn't do it any other way haha. All hail our cake delivery drivers! haha

Thank for your insightful video. I also deliver my cakes the same way despite the reactions of other bakers!! I have done this for years and like you do not have issues with the delivery. It is a comfort level and helps reduce some of the stress.

I have to say, I don’t actually drive so having an “Adam” is a must for me! I’ve only ever delivered one wedding cake - it was stacked at the venue but I was so stressed the entire time! I think that having it on my jiggly thighs might make me feel more in control and less stressed. Thank you so much for the explanation, it really helped! Xx

Thank you Nicola, I'm so glad it helped! Yes you can kind of feel where the cake is wanting to go and can adjust your angle accordingly! x

Thank you so much for your great tutorials,I do deliver my cakes myself I don’t trust anyone else driving, I put my cakes in the boot with a sticker “cake on board “so people behind me they know I have a cake

I've only ever delivered about 15 cakes, but I've always used the jiggly thigh method! Never failed me! Biggest was a large, tall 4 tier wedding cake. It's quite a good workout twisting and leaning with the bumps and bends, thanks Tracey. Ps. I have a Gary!

"Not everyone has an Adam " and " my giggly thighs " you are hilarious even when speaking about a serious problem. That's what makes you the most human and gives people the confidence to try your suggestions. Living in the US I'm only assuming that the boot is the truck of you car. Fun fact we also have some makes of cars that have the truck of the car in the front and the engine in the back. Even though I don't deliver cakes professionally yet I still take them to family and friends events. This video gave me some very important insight and from now on I'll be delivering cakes on my even bigger giggly thighs. Lol. By the way do you rent out your Adam Lol 😆. Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜🍒

I did the same. Always on my knee. My hubby did the driving. Always carried them in for me. Hardly ever carried separate tiers. I used to only put a box in the boot of tools and spare flowers if needed. Good to know I wasn’t bonkers 🤣

My husband is my driver 95% of the time, I prefer holding the cake on my lap too as you can move your body to stabilise the cake. We are mostly flat where I live but we have a few train tracks to cross and far to many judder bars!

I delivered my Moana cake a few weeks ago…. I put it in the boot of the car and no lie, we got 5 doors down on the street and I told Mark to stop and changed it to my knees cause it was moving about too much! So happy I did or the cake wouldn’t have made it in one piece. All hail those jiggly thighs!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼😂😂

When I made and delivered cakes I did the same thing you did. I'm a single mom so my mom was my Adam but every cake went on my lap/knee. Never had an issue counteracting the turns, bumps, curves, etc.

I completely understand how you feel when people come and collect omg ,I cringed as they opened their boot and shoved a pushchair to the side and pushed my cake in the boot ,I advised them it's not good to do that but they said it's fine ,not my problem then lol x
@Cherrycakeco2 жыл бұрын
LOL We are so precious over our creations, that we would know if a figures hand was missing etc. But some people are really relaxed about it, can knock off a small decoration, or push in the side of the cake and wouldn't care if the overall cake still looked good! We are just very critical :D x

In my country there are special cars to do that. Cake delivery cars. But they are a bit expensive .

I have almost an Adam, I have to remind my Jim to go slow over speed bumps and not to slam on breaks etc as we set off. I do put my cakes in the boot on a non-slip mat, the same mat as you put under the cake board to stop it slipping on the turntable. Also I never do more that 2 tier cakes. I did have two barrel buttercream cakes in the boot once and had to deliver it to a venue that was on a cobbled stone road. I prayed all the way down that road. Thankfully they were in one piece. Also, my cakes aren't as intricate as yours. I think if I did a cake like yours it would go on my giggly thighs.

hahah they are the best :D. Gosh cobbles can sure make you nervous can't they! x

I am a hobby baker and make cakes for friends and family and like you if I am dropping off I carry it on my lap and move with the car usually just one tier occasionally two. I then joined some cake making pages and found out it is "frowned upon". Jiggly thighs definitely have their uses. If the cake is being collected I will recommend boot or footwell though as i am never confident they will move with the car. I am gifting a 3 tier wedding cake this month that is buttercream covered only I am considering taking it as the 2 bottom tiers stacked then adding the top tier at the venue as I am worried about the weight of the cake and summer temperatures. Hopefully it works out it is my first time doing anything like this so no pressure. Any advice would be appreciated.
@Cherrycakeco2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I hate that that things are frowned upon when they clearly work for another person. I don't frown on anyone using a footwell - I just can't get my cakes in there hahahaha. ooof I have only delivered a 3 tier stacked buttercream cake once - and I remember sweating a lot and willing it to be over hahahaha So yes, absolutely take them separately in tiers if you can and stack at the venue. See if you can find my vlog where I take a buttercreamed cake on a 5 hour trip to Devon - it shows how I took them separately and stacked at the venue xxx

Omg i deliver 3 tier wedding cake here in washington state and travelled for 2 hours, we started to climb up the road in 1 hour drive, middle rownof the chevy tahoe can be folded so i place the cake in that folded seats underneath is a heavy board. When we go climb the road i tilted that board to level and my goodness the entire trip the level of anxiety is too much, arrive at the wedding venue so relived thanks God...

This is sooo scary. I dont know that I have the courage to try it. I'm still "finding my way" with delivering cake. I've set up 6 so far, but stack them at the venue, but find that has a fair few down sides...like making sure its level for one! That would be much easier to do at home! So maybe I need to be brave and give the Cherry Knee a go. 😂 Thank you for your videos Tracey....love them
