Your sense of humor is really refreshing. I like too many eclectic things to land on just one style: antiques, Boho, mid-century, coastal, Parisian, English cottage, etc. Everything I own is mostly thrifted, heirlooms, or bargains...so, a video to help refine/define styles would be great. p.s. I'm a renter which is particularly challenging.

again, very solid advice.....as a kid i worked for RB furniture. we used the graph paper and cut outs all of the time with clients. most people have a hard time visualizing things and this makes it so much easier. funny story, i didn't take that advice myself and bought my mom a big beautiful sectional, well, it dwarfed every other piece of furniture she owned1 ha ha, well she needed new everything anyway, but boy was that a shock.

Oh wow! I can imagine it must have been a bit of a shock. But I’m sure it was a comfy place to sit, which is the most important thing!

Dang! I'm all caught up on your creations. Looking forward to future content. And since someone mentioned it and you kinda agreed😀, I'm especially looking forward to a video about eclectic style. We're living around the world right now and I can't imagine how our stuff will fit in our old suburban waiting for us back home.

Hi Alex! glad to see the graph paper furniture suggestion. I did that when I moved in to my apartment and thought I was being extra 😅 I’m stuck, however, on a rug. My studio is basically a rectangle with my bed and sofa next to each other. I’m debating if I should get 2 rugs: one for bed and one for living area or just use one larger one that would connect half of my bed to the living area. I know that rugs are meant to “divide” areas. I do like having a rug for my feet to land off after getting out of bed so any affordable easy suggestions would be great! It’s a small studio so space is very limited. Thanks so much 😊

Hi Sandy! Ooh, that’s an interesting dilemma. I’d say that the idea of dividing a room into different areas generally works best when it’s a large room, so in a studio, one larger rug would be my suggestion. Plus, if it’s large enough like an 8x10, that will be a versatile size that will still be useful if you move to a larger space. Large rugs can be expensive though, so what I’ve done in the past is scour eBay for rugs that are the right size but slightly damaged. I found one once that had a tear but in the part of the rug that would be covered by the sofa anyway so it was a great score! The top priority is comfort so if you’re not able to find a large rug, then something else I’ve done is temporarily employ two 2x3 rugs on either side of the bed so there’s a warm spot to land on when you get out of bed. Hope this helps!

Hi Alex, just came across your channel. Like your videos and your personality. I too, have a dilemma in my home office room - I want to update it and make more stylish, but one corner is taken by a drum set of my boyfriend which is covered with fabric tapestry and makes an eyesore, so I keep my office door closed. The room is rectangular and also has a window and a closet, so I am limited to where to move things. Any ideas on how to incorporate such things (like drums) into interior? I know it's an unusual situation. Thank you in advance for any tips! :)

Hi there! That’s an interesting design dilemma. I think there are two routes you can go. You can either get rid of the boyfriend (kidding!) or what I’d suggest is working with the drum set and giving the office a sort of music room vibe. I don’t know what the fabric tapestry looks like but I’d assume it might have some darker colors? You could possibly pull a color from it and use it on the walls, and then bring in some art like a grid of album covers, or other music related things, and then highlight those with spot lights or picture lights. The idea being that if the drum set is going to be there, you may as well make it work with the rest of the room. Another thing you could consider is incorporating lighting that has a brass finish, so it ties into the cymbals. The glint of the metals could work really nicely with a dark painted wall. I’d suggest looking up “music rooms” on Pinterest for some additional ideas. Hope this helps!

@@alexdesignsstuff thank you for your kind reply! LOL, yes, b/f is staying. I've never thought about making tapestry colors part of the design - it is green and black with celtic designs. I like the idea of the brass and cymbals, expect that his drums are not classic, they are electronic(?) and are black and silver. I will check out pinterest though. Thanks again! :)
