As always, this is well worth the time to watch. I'm so glad I ran into your content several months ago. I tried putting together a portfolio piece by building it directly in Storyline, but as you mentioned, I lost alot of time redoing and reiterating. How much easier it would have been if I had started with Adobe XD to build. Even better if I had started with a text based storyboard or a mind map to outline my thoughts. (In the process I learned alot about cool features of Storyline as I was trying to demonstrate my ability to use all of them in one project, but I'm not sure how coherent the finished piece was. I too would be interested in image packs.
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
We've all been there, Laura. It is tough to figure things out on your own (I even built some of my early client projects in Storyline directly...results in a lot of rework as change requests come in down the line). So yes, please learn from my mistakes, lol. This process irons out a lot of the inefficiencies and works really well for clients (I would seek approval on text-based storyboard, interactive prototype, and then final product). Finally, thanks for supporting the content. We're glad that you're here :)

Hi Devlin and all! I am a New Delhi-based curriculum developer. I specialize in elementary education and sociology of education and have been working with government organizations and NGOs for a couple of years. Now, I intend to switch to the profile of an instructional designer. I have been reading, watching videos and also intend to build a portfolio. However, I have three major queries. a) Should my portfolio samples be general or specific at this initial stage of the switch? In other words, should I restrict it to elementary education work samples or include samples that cater to the need of corporates, include other topics, etc.? b) Should I prepare for the role in terms of what industry needs or what I can offer? If both, how do I strike a balance between these two? c) Are South Asian people often viewed as ‘cheap labourers’, specifically in the freelance space? (I intend to work with people across the globe while residing in India.) I would highly appreciate it if you all could share your response to the above-given questions. Thanks in advance!
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
Hello, and good questions! I will do my best to answer: 1. You should try to cover a wider range. If all of your projects are related to elementary education, it may send the message that those are the types of roles you're aiming to work in. 2. Both! The process outlined in this video covers a lot of the bases that companies are looking for. 3. I am not sure about that. If you position yourself well and have a strong portfolio, then you will be able to demand premium rates.

I finally was able to get into this a bit. I've been enjoying it, and imagine I'll watch it a couple more times just for my sake. @Devlin Peck Interesting, so you spend a total of 40 hours, do you outsource some of the work, then? I'm curious, since you said "on your end", or do you mean there is other work on the part of the client? And, yes, I know you love project pricing, and I definitely see why! Although, the stuff you create brings incredible value. So, now that I say it, I'm not sure why I was "shocked!" It was more just hearing $25,000+ USD. Hi Devlin! Thank you for putting out such valuable content. Do you have an alternative for articulate storyline for starters? It costs $999 and may be a big outright investment if you are just starting.

You can use the free trial to learn the tool and create portfolio deliverables 😃. And you’re welcome for the content!

@@DevlinPeckYT Thank you so much Devlin. I need to prepare a instructional training content and feeling a bit overwhelmed. Its my career transition. Can I please have a 1:1 with you or at least could you guide me to a playlist that covers this part specifically as in with real time example on Storyboard, Articulate 360 and all that?

great one! 2Qs come my mind, the sample of work "davidleisey" looks different and advanced, how he makes that and what tools he used, storyline or other tools? - my challenge now is about making mock up and using adobe XD, so how can we draw slide like storyline in adobe XD, in ease? thanks
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sara. David actually did that with Articulate Storyline. It is very impressive…I thought he had used a tool like After Effects, but he did it all in Storyline. And check out the video about how to use Adobe XD for eLearning 😃

Do you offer that text Storyboard for downloading or sharable link?
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
Hey hey! Not at the moment outside of the bootcamp but I can definitely put something together. I do offer a different text-based storyboard in the storyboard template video here on the channel :D.

Would a scenario based eLearning experience come after an informational training so that the participant knows how to navigate the scenarios based on what they've learned?
@DevlinPeckYT2 жыл бұрын
With this approach, we bring people right into the action and let them "pull" information (instead of pushing it on them). That being said, many clients / teams do weave together a mix of info-based and scenario-based like you mentioned. Good question!

As a online lecturer found this very useful in guiding me through how to turn boring old MS Word word heavy docs into interactive sessions users can follow in their own time. Just starting out in the Articulate domain too, so need all the guidance I can get!
