my partner is Filipina, it is a thing. edit: for context - she can't swim, none of her sisters can either. I've met loads of Filipina women that can't swim. Depending on when (in time) and where a girl grew up in the Philippines and the families style of conservatism - not being able to ride a bike, drive a car and (surprisingly) swim is definitely a thing.
