Dear Bike Teacher, I just wanted to say thank you for this instructional video, together with your very recent (on a racing bike) on quick release skewer tightening. It is much appreciated that you have took the time with both these videos that you have tried to put across how much pressure required, which is kind of difficult to convey over a video where the user is not actually experiencing the pressure themselves. Although this may be a subject that is often overlooked, I have looked into this quite a bit myself (I am just a casual cyclist) and I can say that your videos are the best I have seen over the several that are available online. Thank you once again for taking the time to put these videos together - much appreciated!

LOL I am watching this because my quick release on my kids bike is stuck....The tire lever trick worked Thank you. I used an old inner tube on the fork to help protect it.

Thank you for sharing, is this the same for rear wheels using disc brake?

I have a raleigh detour 2 and recently broke my skewer from tightening it too much. Can i just order a fromt skewer from amazon? Are all skewers universal?
@BikeTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that style would also be identified as 9mm skewer/quick release. The front one is shorter than the rear. Just in case take a length measurement then buy.

I just bought an e bike the forks have the little holes for the lock type washers, so it holds wheel in as a security measure, however mime did not come with them, I've always used them on my BMX forks. I even watched a video from the maker of my bike , he did not use them, just put the stem in and locked it, I always worry about the wheel flying off, should I get those? Or will it be secure enuff? Thank you for any advice

Should be secure enough. I have bent those safety hooks in the past. Poor metal, good intentions though, but not needed.

when I close mine tight like that, it feels bent, i've adjusted my caliper with it really tight like that, and it will always rub. Loosened it a bit more, where I could close it with my thumb, no more off balanced tire. Soo... Idk. now i'm afraid my tire will fall off.

I know this one year old but I'm having the same problem, the qr is making my brakes rub and I can't seem to find a safe solution for this. Did you ever found a good solution?
@JamieR7 ай бұрын
The issue which i found someone post about on bike exchange, is the disk brakes. They add force which moves up into forks, then down into hub and QR. Causing it to come loose. I've had my front wheel come off, luckily uphill and i flew over the bars into a hill on the side of the road catching my fall. Could've been disasterous 😬

Make sure the fork dropouts are in good shape, not bent, decent metal-not soft meta tor playable. replace the quick release with a well know quality one. Confirm good tension when closing.

Hi There, My quick release on marvern star axis 2 mountain bike was loose and I tightened the black screw on the other side..Now the Lever is facing inwards but I cant open it now..Do I just loosen the screw or best to get a Bike repair Guy? Thanks if yoy can help
@BikeTeacher3 жыл бұрын
I would use a small pry bar like a screw driver and use that to leverage or pry the lever open. Careful not to damage the frame/bike. Use a rage to protect it.

My rear wheel gets off-center after some usage if I have the quick release adequately tight, I overtighten them and it prevented the wheel from going off center. Will overtightening damage anything? Like the hub axle or the bearings?
@fernandosulantay2 жыл бұрын
How did you overtightened, i was using it like that and everything went okey, but now i change the tire and i cannot overtight again 😿, everything time i close it and test it it's open really easy, ¿Do you have some tips or something?

I fucked mine up and been riding it for a month like this and with dry bearings i think i messed up

Dry bearings may survive. You won’t know until you get inside and take a look.

If it's so tight I use a piece of 1/2 inch plastic conduit
