Don't worry. If you're in the garden alone you're not at any risk of contracting the infection by being in the open. Coronavirus needs warmth, and fast, to survive a short trip from your mouth to theirs. The virus has limited time to remain alive in the drying breath air. If there is nobody around you, no one that is infected can pass it to you. You need to be at least a meter near a person to be able to breath in the virus from an infected person, and quickly, if the virus has to survive the exchange from one person to the next. That's why medical authorities are advising everyone to keep the distance if possible, the further away the better. If you remember that in cold winter morning, when you breathe in and out, either with your nose or mouth, you see fine steam coming out of either nose or mouth. That's exactly the distance that steam reaches out in the air, and that it exactly the same distance you should be standing back, and more, 2 to 3 meters is minimum. Just observe the expelled steam from your mouth and watch how far it goes. That is the minimal distance the virus can reach another person before it senses the effect of dryness in the air and dies. It's not like the Flu which survives longer in the air during the cooler spring and autumn months. Summer is too hot and dry for the Flu to survive and reproduce. In winter the Flu is a real devil. It may live in our throats and a person has to be really close, e.g. kissing, hugging or talking to both to affect one or many other people, usually relations or lovers. Getting the Flu in winter is rare. You mostly get the Cold with an occasional runny nose, sore throat and cough. Sadly, no one gives a Like here, even if someone makes a good comment. 🙁

Went out this past Wednesday and used my Groundskeeper II rake on my lawn. Got 3 bags of thatch so it definitely does a great job, but be warned it's quite the workout. Unfortunately with 3-7" of snow due here in New England tomorrow it puts a damper on my Spring lawn care regimen. Will keep an eye out for your Coronavirus video. Take care and stay safe.

Will dethaching help with pine needles smothering the lawn?
@grants169
@grants169 4 жыл бұрын
Should this be done before or after the first fertilizing? Zone 5. I use a tractor attachment pull behind dethatcher/comb. It requires about 3 or 4 passes to get up everything to the surface, then I hit it with a push mower with a bag to suck everything up. It's not perfect as it also pulls up a significant amount of live grass, but in a couple weeks it fills in nicely. I've always done it in the fall before plugging and based on your video that's probably wrong. I'll try it in the spring this time. thanks for the tip.
@SilverCymbal

I really like to do it before applying fertilizer or at least wait a couple of weeks after applying. You likely won't pull it up when doing this but it makes certain the fertilizer won't be too disturbed if you wait.

I have a beautiful lawn, although I never rake it. There is some moss in it in winter but that dies in summer. Essential is a good fertilizer, cutting your lawn on a weekly basis and not to cut it too short. For me your lawn is cut too short and that makes you will have many dry plants if the underground is not wet enough. I do lawns since I was a toddler. And mulchers are a mess. They say the cutlings fertilze the grass but I don't believe that it makes a mess watch your feet when you walk through the lawn. Green green grass of home. So cut every week and collect the cutlings. Gather the cutling in a compost bin. Fertilize in spring just before you know it is gonna rain. Then that fat dillutes faster and drains into the soil where it should be. Thank you.

How often and when should this be done to the lawn ? Is the build up caused by not using a catcher when mowing ?
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 4 жыл бұрын
It can be from build up and is somewhat part of the natural cycle. I like to do it once a year in whatever time your spring takes place. This is a little early for new england this year. if you have a lot of build up doing it later in the season is good too, as long as its not super hot out.

Raking makes the lawn look good, clean and fresh, just like when you wash clean and preen your hair to feel fresh and clean. But as long as lawn food is applied monthly (Weed & Feed), the grass clipping can turn into plant food called poor man's grass feed. Another suggestion to keep the lawn clean without having to rake it is to use a grass catcher where the mower has fan type blades to suck and throw the clippings in the catcher, then store it somewhere that you can use it as compost mixed with other garden waste to add it on poor soil in the veggie garden. You'll get some benefit.

Thoughts on the pull-behind detacher's that you attach to your lawn tractor? They utilize similar 'tongs' that are on the rake and you use an appropriate weight to weigh it down so it digs in and grabs the dead grass. Silver Cymbal I found it on A.M. Leonard’s for $20-$25 less per bag, but the shipping cost was like double what the cost of the product was. I’m disappointed they don’t have local retail dealers. I did get a 2000SR spreader for around $700 new though. It works awesome and is a beast of a spreader. Definitely made to last

Hi can you please tell me the best time to apply Tenacity? I am in cool season. Also, please let me know when can I apply fertilizer once I apply Tenacity? Thanks!
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 4 жыл бұрын
Good news, it can be applied anytime weeds are growing, no good or bad with one exception. Don't spray it when the temps are 80, doesn't matter if the temp goes 80 or over, you jst have to spray it on the grass when temps are under 80, so early or late in the day. Game changer product: Everything you need to be weed free: Tenacity Weed Control: amzn.to/2JM4APm Surfactant: amzn.to/2Xz6dod - Dye/Colorant: amzn.to/2Jta4yh 2 Gallon Sprayer: amzn.to/2xBJP3k

I wish they would sell elsewhere, I tried to contact them to have them just sell the head which would ship much easier. I will try again since using your own pole would be easy,

It is available in Canada but very hard to find. I purchased one in St.Catharines Ontario at Rittenhouse. I live roughly 1/2hr from there. It was pricey at $55 including tax. They said they sell fast and keep running out of stock in about 2 weeks.

Well, what if you use a bagged mower? Is dethatching still necessary?
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 4 жыл бұрын
Many will find that if they always bag that dethatching needs are less. The best bet is to try a small area with a rake and see how much comes up, if not too heavy or not a lot of debris you might be ok without it for the season.

The Groundskeeper II is the best rake ever. I've had one for a couple of years now and it's holding up very well as well as doing an amazing job at dethatching.

Disagree entirely. Firstly mulching on a lawn (depending on grass type) will actually promote new growth in underdeveloped areas. Also, mulching does NOT CAUSE THATCH. Mulch away it’s healthy
@SilverCymbal
@SilverCymbal 4 жыл бұрын
I never said it caused thatch but it doesn't help a crippled lawn grow faster and it can be very detrimental during a renovation, this explains more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJOviIKsrrGqr7c
