I'm 41, started smoking when I was 11, this March will be 2 yrs since I've quit. I LOVED SMOKING!!!! They're your little buddies that are always with you. They've been a part of your life for soooo long! You use them as a dependent, a treat, a reward. Even though I deal with asthma, that wasn't a good enough reason for me to quit. That being said, they are not your buddies, they want to kill you! I quit cold turkey but I WANTED to quit. The mental part of it was harder then the physical cravings. The cravings subsided about 3 weeks after quitting but the mental part of it carried on for about 8 months. I'm a trucker and I always had the opportunity to smoke, all day long. What kept me going was my will power and researching how the body heals it's self after quitting, that was a big help for me. Also for motivation I looked at it this way... I'M PAYING THE GOVERNMENT TO KILL ME! I live in Canada, a large pack, 25 King size, 2 years ago was around $16... might be more now. I already pay a crazy amount of taxes here, why am I gonna keep paying this crazy price for cigarettes to the government? YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT... AND THEN YOU WILL! I wish you well.

Remembering him always. 😔 EDIT: After first posting this, I had routine blood work done, and diagnosed with prostate cancer and emphysema. Had prostate surgery and recovered fine. Now a new battle, but not throwing in the towel. I've coded and was resuscitated from an allergic reaction once in '83 , had an aneurysm in my brain I was born with and discovered when I had a near death accident in '87. It's really hard to quit but you'll be so very happy once you do. Try doing something where your hands are busy when you get the urge to smoke -- things that I know work are washing dishes, any household chores where you need to use both hands, even taking a shower helps -- the physical cravings do stop sooner than you'd think -- takes a few days -- but smoking cravings are triggered when doing things where you normally will smoke so need to recognize the triggers and replace the cigarette with something else -- drink something non-fattening -- flavored seltzer or unsweetened tea -- something you like to take your mind off the cravings. You can do it -- it's hard but so worth it.

I am so grateful for this information that you've given to me. I started smoking at the young age of 7 years old. My Mom was a smoker and my parents found out I had been smoking at the age of 10 years old and rather than punish me, they just asked me to smoke at home and not at school. I was diagnosed with asthma and emphysema in my mid 40's. I'm 54 and I'd been on Chantix for a few years which curved my desire to smoke. Some days 0 to 3 or4. That's down from 3 packs a day at my highest to a 1 pack a day. Unfortunately, Chantix has been pulled off the market about 6 months ago. In America they don't teach us things like this. The pharmaceutical companies are all in kahoots with the government. The government now owns the medical insurance and they just keep putting people on medication, not to heal them, but rather make us lifelong customers. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.

Holy crap! I had to read the part about Chantix three times - I can’t believe you stayed on Chantix for a few *YEARS,* instead 3 _MONTHS_ (people are supposed to quit within the first month of being on the medicine, and stay on it for 2-3 more months in case they slip up). That is mind blowing to me! It seems pretty clear that you simply didn’t want to quit, and fought against what the drug was doing to help you stop. The last bit of what you wrote doesn’t make much sense. First of all, you say that the government now owns medical insurance. That is only true for Medicare (federal ins for dusabled & people age 65 and over), and for those with state insurance help like Medicaid/Medical/etc for extremely impoverished people. Most people don’t have such insurance plans, and instead get private business owned health insurance through their jobs. For me, I have BOTH a gov’t plan AND a private company, because I became disabled at age 28. Medicare doesn’t have the best coverage, so I pay most of my monthly ssc check on the monthly premium for a secondary private PPO insurance plan to supplement Medicare’s coverage. I would say though that gov is most definitely in bed with big pharma, but it was YOU that chose to take Chantix incorrectly by staying on it for years on end.

Cystic Fibrosis patient here. I usually balk at detox videos, but this is pretty good. The reality is that there isn't much you can do except minimizing exposure to risk factors: if you smoke, smoke less; if you live in a polluted area, minimize exposure to pollution; if you get a lower respiratory infection, treat it quickly. Over time your lungs will heal everything they can (unless the tissue has become fibrotic). for the average person - Stay healthy, keep shit out of your lungs, get some cardio in every day (even a 5 minute run will get the cilia beating again), autogenic drainage, huff coughs, and the occasional dose of hypertonic saline.

@jackiec4983 жыл бұрын
Cold 🦃 is just a turn of phrase for when someone quits a habit without the use of physical or medical assistance, tapering the amount etc. So, if u quit with no help like nicotine patches/gum etc; then we call that "quitting cold 🦃." I have no explanation why, but yeah. ALSO, and arguably more importantly, I'd like to let u know that ppl have all kinds of variables individually when it comes to quitting a habit or addiction. There is genetic factors which can greatly impact a person's experience when attempting to quit, as well as psychological & social/environmental influences. The reason I feel it's important to let u know this is; YOU had a rare & unique experience in quitting and u should be thrilled. I know I myself would kill to have that type of experience. I have heard several ppl who say "i just stopped, why can't you" or ppl have said "well, you've got to REALLY want it or it won't happen, so u must not really want it" but yo, ppl can't say what something will be like for someone else it don't work that way.

@@jackiec498 It’s called cold 🦃 because heroin withdrawal causes you to feel incredibly cold and get goosebumps, almost like cold poultry. So the term comes from people quitting heroin abruptly.
@SmallSpoonBrigade2 жыл бұрын
@@jackiec498 Cold turkey specifically refers to when you cut yourself off completely without medical treatment. There are other ways, I'd recommend that people don't even try that, just gradually increase the time between when you want the cigarette and when you let yourself have it. If after that time you still want it, then you can have it, if not, don't. Over time, the duration should get to be longer and longer. There is a very different reaction to when you decided you can't ever have something as opposed to not having it right now.

Shaming isn't helpful, it's one of the things that makes it hard to quit. When I quit drinking, I lost pretty much all of my friends. I still haven't rebuilt my social circle completely in the decades since I quit drinking. It's also worth recognizing the drug addiction is usually centered on social interactions. If you don't address that, then the likelihood of quitting in the long term suffers significantly.

I have no doubt of the difficulty in relieving stress/getting centered etc & can certainly relate. It's a coping skill at its base...and over the years it becomes attached to many other conscious & subconscious actions/thoughts/environments/even people. Then if u attempt to quit, you will find yrself triggered anytime u drive down a certain street b/c every a.m. that was the street u lit up on so u could finish prior to getting to work....or anytime u saw tom you'd be triggered cuz he waz yr drinkin buddy...or u kno, after dinner, after sex etc.

Like everyone else in the 50's and 60's I started smoking as a child, (not uncommon at the time). I smoked fairly heavily my whole life with a few breaks of a year or two in attempts at quitting. I could never stay quit and pretty much gave in to the truth that I would smoke till it killed me. In October of 2019 I had a cold/flu that came with a nasty cough.no problem for an iron lung like me, except that it got sooo bad that one day I just couldn't stop coughing and was trying to smoke at the same time. I could've breathe or even inhale a tiny bit of smoke. I looked at the half a cigarette in my left hand. I put it out in the ashstray. I put on a nicotine patch that I had left over fron a previous attempt at quitting and went the rest of the day without smoking. I had no intention of quitting, just waiting for the cold to pass. One day turned into 2, turned into 3, etc.i did the whole patch program as directed and have just celebrated my 3rd anniversary of being smoke free. Haven't looked at one, touched one, or smelled one since that day, and i would put a gun in my mouth before I ever put another cigarette in there. My point is ... If I can do it so can you. Nevere quit quitting. Peace and love everyone.

Hate to play devils advocate here but I’d like to suggest an alternative to those who are struggling to quit. Smoking isn’t bad it’s toxic. Meaning you are inhaling chemicals that stress the lungs beyond normal capacity because they have to work harder, however judging from some comments I’ve seen here, it appears that most people have been exposed to toxic environments without smoking being the main contributor to ill-health and bad lungs. Asbestos is not something to be taken lightly and is far more dangerous then the average cigarette which I’m sure we will all agree. Therefore I’d suggest to smoke responsibly. The amount of fumes, chemicals, pollutants in the air in today’s age is astronomical. You can blame the industrial revolution for this. Toxicity weather in gas, liquid or solid form is absolutely everywhere! In your home, in your car, at the office or on the street. Therefore if we are all exposed to some form of toxicity then we can at least manipulate the one’s we do have control over such as smoking. Choose organic tobacco, roll with hemp rizla paper, like an adjustment in diet, treat smoking with the same principles, the same integrity. Incorporate this exercise into your routine, I’d also suggest practicing some form of pranayama (deep breathing exercises) make sure to drink lots of water to keep the lungs clean from building up any tar. Assess the colour and density of your phlegm when you spit after smoking, if it’s not clear or white then you quitting or enhancing is imperative. If you get seriously then consider urine therapy, read up about it, there’s a science to such practices that can restore one’s health to optimal levels. For those who advocate metaphysical practices, something esoteric, draw a sigil with a healing symbol, charge it whichever way you like then let it work. Be mathematical too, if you are addicted then organise specific times during the day where you will chain smoke. Like once every 3 hours within the day and stick to it. I must also stress that for those who smoke “recreational substances” again smoke the purer form, don’t just smoke what’s available or conventional. Diversify, do your due diligence. I met people from Egypt who showed me how pure their tobacco is, containing very little chemicals if any. Again go organic, go vegan with it lol. You get the drift, if your going to smoke, smoke with intention. Create an altar, meditate whilst you smoke. Use it for purpose, intention not for pleasure. This advice is for those who are struggling to quit or enjoy smoking but want to reduce its harmful effects. It’s not the cigarette, the nicotine, the tobacco that kills you, it’s the conditioning or lack of that is the cause of one’s demise or suffering. Take this information whichever you wish. Good luck.

I quit by doing exercising (playing soccer) and by will power. Making up my mind and having the will power not to go back to smoking was one of the hardest things, but all you need to do is convince yourself to quit and then ignore the craving completely. In the beginning it was difficult and I did give in to my cravings, but I made sure that it was less frequent. Eventually the craving just went away and now a month or so after you completely quit you feel so healthy again and that makes you so happy. 😊

I quit at the beginning of May, but had been wanting to quit for probably a whileeeee before that. I knew it was bad for me and I washed my hands vigorously because the smell on my hands bothered me soooo much (my friends joked that I washed them better and longer than surgeons) - so I wanted to stop. Here are my little tips. 1. Cold turkey is the only way I was successful. “Just one more..” logic held me down for a while. So quitting cold turkey was the only way. No amount of decreasing helped. Just lead me back to another pack. 2. I quit going inside of gas stations. Every time I went in - there they are. So by avoiding the inside of gas stations, I was able to cut back on the acknowledgment of cigarettes even being available. And it cut out a lot of chips, snacks, and things too. A tiny perk as well. 3. You have to want to quit more than you want to continue. You will know when it’s time and when it is - just do it. There is no other way to quit than to quit. I know it sounds hard. Trust me. I’ve been there. But you can do it and you will do it when it’s your right time. 4. Don’t accept them at parties or if someone offers you one, because chances are, you will start again. 5. The craving went away, but the memories and nostalgia to them didn’t. 6. When I smell one in public, it stinks but in a good way. In a way that makes me want one. But I don’t, because I know where I’ll end up. Smoking again. It was really hard mentally on me for years wanting to quit but not being able to. Then one day I was like, “I think it’s my time now”. And I never went back and stayed out of gas stations. 6 months free at this point. If I can do it, you can too! I believe in you. 🤍🤍🤍

I went few sticks, avoided drinking with friends because it triggers to smokea lot then I switched to vape. From juice with nic to none foe like 3 months then I stopped. Kept myself busy - - basketball, manhwas, animes, local travel and whenever I feel like I want to smoke - - I play my basketball with just my hand w/o going to court. There are a lot of friends or colleagues who does not believe in your change and entices you to go back on your vice or go back to smoking. Had few drinks with them after shift and they really want me to smoke but I rejected them everytime. A lot of people does not want to make you better you know and only yourself can care about yourself so dont deprive yourself to be better. Yourself deserves to be at its best bro! Think!

Good remedy to get poisoned honey becomes poisonous in hot water
@FusionJunkieBabyyy3 жыл бұрын
As it turns out, adding honey to boiling water can change the enzymes, reducing its benefits. But what many people don’t realize is that pasteurized honey has already been heat treated to kill bacteria. So although it might be less beneficial for you (it’s believed that by killing the bacteria you’re also boiling off extra antioxidants) it is in no way toxic. Also, the fact that it can be less beneficial has to be taken with a grain of salt because there aren’t any official studies up to this point to confirm this fact.

Ive been a smoker for 15 years. Just quit 2 months ago. But i now smoke juuls. A pod a day roughly. Much better than my pack of reds a day. My health has drastically improved. Cardio,Skin teeth gums hair energy.. I promise its hard only for the first week or two. Now i look at cigerates like a cancer. Ill never go back. Its been almost 2 months. I will one day quit the vape too. If i can do it, You can too. Its never to late to quit. Nicotine gum also helps tremendously.

I've smoked twice in my life. Once after my Grandmother passed and then my son. With my grandma, it lasted around 4 months, however, after my son, it's now been since May. I've always been disgusted by the taste, smell and overall idea of smoking, but guilt and heartbreak leads to self-punishment and in an odd way, brings small moments of relief. I threw up last month when lighting up and thankfully haven't touched a cigarette since. Im still struggling mentally and have tried vaping for the 1st time. I still feel the need to ro punish myself, but am hoping I'll be able to quit as soon as possible, its all awfully harmful.

Citicoline (or just uridine) and NAC plus nicotine gum (start at 4mg then drop to 2mg) then you will have withdrawals for around 3 days then you will feel normal and have no need to smoke physically, the uridine makes the nicotine not pleasurable anymore, and the N-acetylcysteine helps with the reduction of compulsive behaviour like skin picking or oral fixations like smoking if the nicotine replacement alone does not help, also learning how to use the gum properly can be a big difference in your ability to quit, chew it for a few seconds then place it on your gum, under the lips as if you are using tobacco dip, 4mg might actually be too much nicotine which is great because you use it less as you get the sickening nicotine effect then you can drop to 2mg and at this dose the jump from 2mg to 0mg is allot easier, and the inclusion of uridine and NAC helps prevent relapses, as when you do relapse and try and smoke again, you no longer feel the same pleasure, causing you to no longer seek nicotine, citicoline might be the better option as it also works with acytlecholine so if you were using nicotine to boost your proformance then it can be an easy replacement, making sure you are intaking DHA along side the citicoline. Hopefully, this information can help some of you struggling to actually quit, the withdrawals are not that bad and they go away after about 3 days so most of you if not all of you should be able to achieve this goal, good luck.

Cannot use the gum. Pointers for lozenges please?
@Suitswonderland3 жыл бұрын
@@crescentmoonbulldogs2281 Keep them rolling in your mouth, try and not swallow the saliva and let it work subligually, they were a hassle for me because I would eat them like candy, but you just need too dicipline yourself too use them right, with the gum I would need too spit it out as the nicotine buzz was just too much so try and get the same results, makes you use it less and less and allows you too lower the dose until you slowly shift into never using nicotine again, it sucks for about 3 days then you feel better than ever. you can forsure do it, I have tried going back on nicotine allot of times now actually, everytime I reuse a nicotine produce they just made me feel instantly depressed, its such an insight into the way I used too feel and it makes allot of sense giving the receptor sites nicotine works on. I dunno if its the Uridine and by the studies on it I think it seems likely that it casuses a permement change in the way you feel pleasure from nictoine, because I just don't feel it anymore at all, not use the supplement in forever too, its just one of those substances I keep getting cravings for out of the blue, buy a bunch of gum or a pack of cigarettes, smoke maybe half of one or chew one peice of gum and then end up throwing them in the trash, I've wasted enough money too learn not too bother with them again. Try and avoid smokers on the street, it really helps, and when people want too smoke in your apartment you tell them too go outside, it adds some more dicipline and seperates you more from the drug, giving up drugs are a difficult task but we can all do it, rooting for you. peace & love
