As someone who uses this release you can play really deep inside the ball or really up the back of it. If I’m really trying to maximize it which is rare because house shots just don’t need it I place the balls middle weight or where the ball touches my hand in between my index and middle finger. Medium I place the ball on top of my middle finger on my hand and more forward roll I place it on my ring finger pad on my hand. But absolutely keep your hand under the ball and roll it like you said my rev rate is 530 pretty effortless with that technique. Keep up the good work you’ll get it lower that right shoulder and keep the elbow bent to stay under it and you’ll have it in no time I promise. It took me a couple months but you’ll love it!!

Great stuff…..I struggle badly trying to change….one of the most non talked about in these types of vids is body tilt. Body tilt allows for a more inside swing. Elbow bend is the other so it was good to hear you mention this
@denmanfite31562 жыл бұрын
One idea if you'd rather not just dump your expensive ball in the gutter doing 1 or no step approaches. Put a bit of contrasting tape on your PAP on a plastic ball and just toss it straight down the middle. You'll be able to see the rotation/tilt of the ball this way especially if you have a video camera behind you as you're doing here. You're far more likely to send the plastic ball straight down the lane and with minimal curve as well. If you want to go extra extra bonus points, add a stripe of tape from the PAP radiating outwards. This will help you calculate your rev rate down the road. Cheers mate!

I noticed that if I'm holding the ball and I point my index finger away from the rest of my fingers, then on my swing I try and draw a straight line with my index finger along the length of the lane until I am pointing straight at the pins that I throw a little more under control and with less wild wrist movement. This is all trial and error on my part so I'm not too sure where that fits relative to a more formal technique development but that has proven to be the one change that has given me the greatest improvement so far.

I’ve been squeezing and pulling my shot for years. I went to a 14 from 15 last year and have had problems with my swing. Last nite in league I was doing my normal squeeze and pull shot and was missing left for the first 2 crappy games. Something clicked in my head, and game 3 I stopped trying to squeeze and force the shot. My ball instantly had more speed, went longer, and rolled into a hook. I missed a solid 10 pin, but went out with a 218. Now I just have to remember this for next week, and drop the bad habits I’ve gained over the years. Nice video, it helped me affirm what I was doing last night. When you let the ball do what it knows how to do on its own, the scores will go up.

The habit I have developed that changed my game is , in about my second step towards the foul line after I’ve pushed forward on my swing ,just about when the ball is at my side going backwards in my swing I look down at the ball to make sure my hand is where I want it on the ball , then I immediately look to the spot I want to release my bowl , after I look at the pins we’re I want the ball to hit , it assures me that I get the release every time , I’ve tried to stop but I find out , eventually my hand and ball is not where I want. Next I always say to my self “ drag the knuckles” helps me keep my hand under the ball I’ve only been bowling for about 4 years , but I throw 3 hours a day , knock down 1500 pins a day , keeps the doctor away
@realjnolan2 жыл бұрын
The release also has to do with hand positioning and how you get your ball drilled. I put my fingers in as deep as they’ll go before inserting thumb and have some inside hand tilt on the approach. Forces more of a flip off the fingers on your release more so than a spin. I’m not a pro, but bowled competitively for a solid 20 years since youth league.
@tomytable1753 Жыл бұрын
I do the same thing, top and to the side. I have a relaxed hold too. I feel that the bowling ball is too heavy. It's 15 lbs ball and travels down the lane at 10 to 11 mph. With a house ball, 13 lbs can go at 13 to 14 mph down the lane. I'm having fun with a 14 lb ball and then with an old 15 lb urethane ball. Thank you for sharing this video. I need to cradle the ball more.

My bowling instructor (ya… I’m paying for lessons…) told me the ball should leave my hand by the side of my middle finger. From all the videos I have been watching it looks like the ball leaves the hand from the palm side of the ring and middle finger. Next video for noobs, please talk about the feeling of the weight on your hand/fingers through out the throw.

I have been working on this same thing, but, I still spin it. I have been on the top most of my bowli g life. my wrist is not flexible so I can't cup it much but I can bend my elbow. occasionally, I feel this awesome wrist action that sorta "snaps" the ball out of my hand and everything about those shots feel so good, but, I don't know what to key on to keep repeating this "action". ideas? .
@realaverageatbest2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, well I'd say recording some of your own shots would be a good start. Try to record a shot that feels normal and then a shot that has that 'snapping' action. Sometimes, you can see a difference on video and it makes it easier to identify when it happens in the approach. If there seems to be something specific then try to repeat the 'feeling' of throwing that shot. Try that and let me know if anything helps, thanks!

@@realaverageatbest I video all the time. I see my swing slide & release but nothing really gives me an "ah hah" that's what I need to do. it is a lot different between what it feels like vs what it looks like. for instance, last night I tried what a previous coach at kegel told me. drop my right shoulder as far as I can. well last night I felt like my right shoulder was perpendicular with the floor. in the video I could hardly see any difference! Or if I turn my hand out - like way out - then watch the video, it just looks like I'm more behind the ball, not turned way out away from me. stuff like that

How do you perform the push away... My wrist keeps breaking.. I don't believe it's ball weight... Was two a finger bowler
@realaverageatbest2 жыл бұрын
For myself, as a five step bowler, I push away on my second step. Having a slightly broken wrist out of the push away isn’t the worst thing in the world. Now, a broken wrist at release is a more of an issue. Really what I try to focus on to keep my wrist and hand under the ball is feeling like my fingers are scraping the ground when I’m bowling (obviously my hand is a solid 6-12 inches from the ground but you want to have that feel at release). Also the feeling of having the back of your hand pointed straight back behind you at release helps. No-step and one step drills are really good for focusing on release things and we have some of those videos on the channel from earlier this year. Let me know if anything is confusing and maybe we can make another video discussing it :)

Incredibly difficult habit to break. I bowled a tournament over the weekend and found myself falling back into the "spin" release because that's what I'm used to. On tougher patterns it makes it much harder for your ball to properly read the lane. Definitely need to practice this more and hopefully continue to improve at the tournaments

You can throw a 300 with a straight ball, you don't need a bazillion revs. Especially youngsters who are still developing muscle. If you want to score,, be consistent with speed and delivery.. you don't need 16 balls. Learn to adjust on the approach..

Yeah it's cool to try and produce a more professional release but really when you watch some of the pros there style and release are something that they have been doing for more than 10 years and they make it look effortless and that is what it is effortless. They relax and let it happen they don't try to make it happen. I personally think it's most important for amateur bowlers to first learn how to relax the grip and arm swing and not worry so much about if you are inside the ball or bending the elbow, just relax everything and get the thumb out first and fingers last and let your personal style develop from there, once you get that down then work on different rotations and remember that the pros only play the extreme inside of the ball because the condition that they bowl on requires them to, this is not something that needs to be done on a house shot, it's totally unnecessary, you'll get way better ball roll if you learn to be comfortable with who you are and how you do it and let it happen.

You can't compare those first two shots in the video. You didn't target the same board at the arrows (10 on the first and 15 on the second), so your ball reaction would be different. Other than that, everything else was very helpful!

I watched the entire video. I'm really not trying to be that guy.. Your first and second releases are nearly identical, same tilt as well. You're already behind and at the equator of the ball in both shots. Your information is all correct. The only difference is that your elbow is slightly bent but almost unnoticeable. Most of that extra rev rate you got is from your left shoulder calming down. I really don't think your "bad" shot is nearly what you think it is
@realaverageatbest2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree the difference isn’t as noticeable with the actual form as it with ball reaction. I wish I could’ve exaggerated it a little more to make it more noticeable for the viewers. Nonetheless the lesson is still there and hopefully can help people realize why the pros do what they do with their release and swing. Thank you for the comment!

To be honest in my opinion rev is overrated. You can be very good with little to not rev. I know some guys that have a lot of too spin but are very good. And alot of these young new bowlers they wanna bowl two hands cause of rev but don’t know how to control it.
@Jesusfanatic07112 жыл бұрын
Spinning the ball is very ball dependent when it comes to different patterns and lane surfaces, whereas just rolling the ball which I admit some two handers make it look so difficult is actually fundamentally easier to be consistent based on your hand position and allows you to gain better control of the midlane and backend reactions. Spinning does have its qualities when lanes have a lot of friction or on the burn don’t get me wrong but that amount of tilt is very difficult to be consistent day to day or shot to shot.
