Excellent video, and yes, sometimes it is sooo difficult to pinpoint what the problem is. I am hoping to get a microscope and learn how to properly read their fecals. The more we can train ourselves to do, the better care we can give our animals. Thank you once again, Delci, for sharing such great material! You’re the Best!!! 😊❤️🙏🏼

My poor goat has had so many health problems. Recently she is getting weak in her legs and sometimes falls down. She struggles to get up from the laying down position. I gave her red cell and selenium and vitamin e. I’ve given her red cell today and yesterday. I’m hoping she gets stronger but it might be a vet visit. I was trying to get her to eat grass hay but she was refusing and lost two pounds. Last week I got her a new alfalfa bale and she’s been eating that hay. She’s gained 1.5 pounds. She’s only 31.5 pounds. She’s always been on the small side.

not exactly our subject today but do how prevalent is coccidiosis in goats. i have heard views that all kids at weaning should get prophylaxis treatment with sulphadimidine.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Harris Baig I don’t do it to all my kids. But if a kid does get diarrhea, I assume it’s coccidiosis. I give them something called SpectoGard Scour-chek (spectinomycin) and it’s worked every time. If an adult goat gets diarrhea this works to stop that too. But it’s important to figure out why the goat has diarrhea and treat for that, not just stop it temporarily.

hi there! Early on with mild symptoms of anemia or illness, is a Vitamin B complex gel (as opposed to injection) sufficient? Or is it not strong enough/fast acting? Thanks for all your resources and advice!
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
The injectable will be slower acting. If you need it fast, give that! But it should be ok to do the gel if it’s the beginning of anemia.

@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
I missed this comment somehow How is your goat doing? What is her temp? Are her eyelids bright pink? Have you done another fecal on her to see how many worm eggs she has? When you give corid , you’ll want to also give thiamine because it is an inhibitor to thiamine.

Hi hun I have a quick question about my goats health. We have had frances for a week and three days now. He was very skinny, sick with a cold coughing and runny nose, to add to my worries he has major hoof rot we have been treating for the last week. A friend trimmed his hoofs two days ago and I think it has made him worse. He’s not eating and laying around yet I’m sure his feet are in pain. I went out this morning and he was laying bye the door crying. I just gave him his first round of penicillin , and I have treated him for worms. What should I do if he isn’t doing better bye tomorrow? I’ve spent a lot in the past two weeks building a warm barn for the animals and buying top grade feeds and medications.

If your goat is in lactation and you are deworming. Is the milk safe for consumption?
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Dennis Briciu Not with chemical dewormers. I was on my last two weeks of planned milking with my three does, so I was at the end of that basically anyway. And she was hardly producing anything after this bout, so I just stopped milking her. If I was in full milking season, i would milk but not use the milk. If you give ivermectin orally (oral: most effective route) it’s a ten day withdrawal and if it’s given SQ, it’s a 40 day withdrawal. But the best method is to help them stay strong and healthy without chemical dewormers. Do fecals and treat only the ones who need it. VERY good question! Thanks for asking!

I bought a new goat and now she is pregnent and also sick.plz tell me what shud i do
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
umer tanoli It’s really hard to tell just from this information. Most sicknesses can be traced back to a goat having too high of a worm load. So it could be worms causing issues. It could be related to the pregnancy and not having enough nutrition to support the babies and her own health. It could be pneumonia. It’s hard to say what’s going on. I’m sorry I can’t help you more specifically. I would start with checking to see if she has worms. Are her eyelids really pale or white? That would indicate worms and anemia.

My goat just had her first kid last night. Since then, (it’s been about 32 hrs now maybe a little longer ) I haven’t seen her drink anything & has only taken a few bites of food. I’ve given her hay and also some sweet feed which she usually can’t resist, because she didn’t eat the hay. She’s just been laying around and cuddling with her baby. Is this normal goat behavior after they kid? Or is she sick? Also how can I tell if the baby is getting enough to eat? The last few times I’ve been out to check, her and the baby are laying in the barn cuddling.
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Kk C Can you tell me a bit more? •What is her temp? Always start there. •What do her eyelids look like? Nice and pink/dark pink? •Did the final stage of labor happen-expelling the placenta? •Does the kid have a nice full look to its sides (you know how a doe looks so full and pregnant and then “drops” when she is about to give birth? You what the kids to look “pregnant” and not have the sunken in sides.) *usually* we don’t see them eating or it doesn’t seem enough and it may even look like the momma isn’t producing enough when they actually are getting plenty and she is actually producing enough. I’d give her a shot of the fortified B-12 to start. Take her temp and then give her a shot of that and observe anything else that might be helpful.

My goat gas mild diarrhea...what can I do?
@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
Hello 😊 I would take her poop to the vet and have them do a fecal on it to see if there is too high of work load. And if there is, worm your goat. Has she gotten into anything toxic or maybe had a feed change? That will cause problems as well. A lot of problems with goats do stem from them having too high of a work load though.

After deworming orally, you’ll probably need to wait 6-10 days before drinking the milk. And for anything else you might give, ask your vet for withdrawal times. 😊

@DelcifromALifeofHeritage4 жыл бұрын
It depends on why the goat is sick, but many times a sick goat will present with symptoms such as: diarrhea, too high or too low temperature, not eating, lethargy, being off by themselves, or coughing. If you see any of these symptoms, then be on the alert and be ready to treat a sick goat 😊
