@@jacekp8366 lol naw, mine seems okay ish now. Go on a long drive, like a 30 minute drive let it fully heat up then smell your oil, if you smell it after a short drive even on a newer car it’ll smell like fuel. But yea check your injectors/ plug wires or spark plugs themselves

Good video . Thanks for posting this . Do you still have your Subaru ? Looks like you spent some serious money on some engine mods. Just changed the oil on my 'new' used car and the oil smelled a little different and looked very thin during the drain despite using 0-20 weight oil . For now , I'll just monitor it before taking it into the shop. One almost have to have octopus arms to reach the plugs on my car , but it gives me confidence since the procedure is do-able as seen on YT.

i was so scared because at first the oil was just so black and thin it didn’t have gas smell and when I went to research i couldn’t find anything that matches my description. but finally it started smelling like gas and maybe now I can find a solution on why my oil is so black thin and smells like gas. 2010 5 spd forester

The way it starts up sounds like an old radial engine airplane. The way it is sounding when it started is exactly the way my honda fit used to sound. randomly. Took me two years to find out, dozens of mechanics, repair shops. All telling me everything is ok..... but i did not believe them. Found out one injector was replaced in the past , a cheaper, wrong type, was inserted thus causing the engine to run rich. No engine light or bad fuel consumption... and i was using it all this time. SOmetimes even in a hurry. NOw i understand the luck i had.... or the metal conditioner i used did its job.... i dont know. I will replace the oil, because its smelling FUEL as well

3 cylinders were at 150psi and 1 was at 120 psi? That seems pretty bad to me. Also did you do the compression test when it was cold or warm? My wrx smells of fuel and there is fuel in the oil. I just got the engine rebuilt so I'm hoping it's just an injector issue and not the piston rings, otherwise I may actually just cry. I'll be doing a compression test this weekend fingers crossed. I did a compression test when It was cold because I was nervous the fuel would dry out the cylinders and blow up the motor. That happened to a buddy of mine. In regards to compression, I looked up the rule of thumb and your cylinders should be within 10% of the highest number. So yes it is a bit low. Also the exhaust valves on my car look like they’re leaking for that cylinder so that could be the culprit. I should’ve done a leak down test too but didn’t have the equipment. Good luck though !!

From what I noticed, that was the biggest one as well as my afr’s reading slightly richer than usual. But the smell of gas was so strong just standing next to my car which is what made me check the oil in the first place.

@@willemjorg yeah I just got a EJ25 and I smelled the same thing they had the ac on for a long time when I first bought it so it hid the smell but after driving it I could tell the injectors were going out for sure

Overcame the dilution problem? I Had a GC1 with the EJ18.

Yeah I did. It is still slightly diluted but nowhere near as bad as it was. That’s probably bc my tuner has my car running in the rich side to be safe.

Once I was smelling gas in the engine bay I decided to check if there was any in the oil. So it didn’t take too long. Also, driving a right hand drive car isn’t bad. You just have to remember your lane position and where to judge off of.

Had issue in 93 Hiace petrol motor . Carby model. Was broken diaphragm in mechanical fuel pump. Filled oil in sump with petrol.New pump... all ok..

sump of Hi ace engine filled with petrol oil and oil pressure light came on. Luckily stopped or could have damaged motor. Also had a miss in engine with 25yo carby still on motor. Was the coil failing. Which is inside distributor. Take distributor off engine easiet way to replace it.

Mine smells like fuel too so I immediately changed the oil but still smells I guess because you never get all the old oil out when draining. Only reason it would get gas in oil is its running rich.

Yeah it did. My tune is fairly rich so there was still slight gas smell but replacing the injector made a big difference

Hi, i liked the video but have a question. What exactly did you do to fix the gas in oil problem. I may have missed it but as for as what I saw there was nothing you changed or replaced to address the actual problem. It was a good tune up no doubt but again what was the source of the problem and what was the fix ?

The fix was replacing the injector in cylinder one that was leaking. As I showed in the video, the spark plug in cylinder one was completely soaked with gas. That was an indicator of the problem. Cylinder one injector was replaced by the shop I brought them to to get cleaned. He mentioned the internals were bad and it just kept leaking. The other injectors were fine after being flow tested and balanced.

Did you do a diagnostic test to see if there were any codes? My oil smells like gas(only when you get close and smell the dipstick) and brought it in and they did a diagnosis test and saw there were no codes so they said everything was fine. I’m confused on what to do next even though I’ve seen people say some gas can blow by the pistons and end up in the oil which is normal

My car is too old to check for codes. You just have to think of why it might smell like fuel and go from there. Not only did my oil smell like gas but when you stood next to my car while it ran it smelled like gas too. Now my oil slightly smells like gas but not nearly as strong. Did you check everything I mentioned in the video?

I just fixed my car from this issue. I drive a 74 Chevy el Camino running a small block 350. I had a compression check done, swapped out the plugs and tuned a brand new carburetor. My compression check came back okay ( thank God ) and the rest did not help at all. It wasn't until I read somewhere that mechanical, pushrod driven fuel pumps can cause this issue. Their internal gaskets can fail and leak gas straight from the fuel tank to your oil pan. I swapped mine out and my car has been driven smooth so far. My motor oil doesn't reek of gas too. I recommend you try this just in case, it's the least expensive route you can try at least at first. Trust me 😅

Good video!!! I’m no tech, but my guess to why you’re getting oil dilution, fuel into your oil, is an extremely easy diag for your vehicle. It’s happening because it’s a Subaru. Had you made the smart decision and purchased a Toyota, you wouldn’t be here right now!! For all the trolls, but more importantly the Chanel, that above was most certainly a bad attempt at humor. Any engines can get this and there’s multiple possibilities as to why it’s happening in each engine. Great job showing your process for diagnosing where the fuel is getting into the oil. I’ve found in my experience, again I’m not a tech, has been gaskets, thankfully, and not compression rings or anything “deep” in the engine like those. Again, good video. @@willemjorg no worries, appreciate the videos and tips!! Yes a ‘wet compression’ test is basically the same as the ‘dry compression’ test that you did here, but you put some oil into the cylinder prior to putting the gauge in. Basically like a tablespoon or so and it shows you whether it's a bad valve, head gasket, or worn piston rings causing the problem. It’ll show if it’s a warm piston ring etc because when you do the ‘wet’ test you’ll have a higher reading than the dry test gave you as the oil has now “sealed” the worn ring or what have you. It may just be a teaspoon I mix those up all the time even cooking lol but than you’ll prob get some white smoke at startup before it burns off the little oil you poured into the cylinder.
