Or you could just remove the DRL relay in the fuse block under the hood.

I thought I remembered a few guys saying that the headlights didn’t work at all after that but I no longer have the car so I can’t check.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy From the schematic I see the relay holds the pin going back to the light to ground. When actuated it switched the ground to the ground through the DRL resistor. So once the relay is removed those two pins need to be jumpered (probably). I would guess that those pins on the relay should register continuity and that should also be completed by a single jumper in the relay's place. I'm still procrastinating on completing mine but soon I can confirm. I'm pretty confident that will work though. My goal is to use my corner markers and not hack up any wiring. Hoping to just rewire in the fuse block. www.subaruforester.org/cdn-cgi/image/format=auto,onerror=redirect,width=1920,height=1920,fit=scale-down/users.rcn.com/xmon/06-GD-HL.jpg

that is pin 1 and 5 in the diagram that should get a jumper

Nice find, I didn’t have a schematic. I’ll pin your comment so others can see it 😁🤘

@@TonyTheTruckGuy i rewired my drl to be full on the low beams. (In addition to not putting the high beam on through the resistor.) As it turns out the out side large pin on the drl goes high (12 v pos) whenever out of park. The smaller pins switch in the relay. Again the middle pin can be broken off to bypass resistor. On the low beam relay it would be the pin in the same position (perpendicular to the lenghty side of the relay on the outside edge). I put a single wire between these two. I added a rectifier diode to stop current from flowing backward from the low beam to the drl. Probably not necessary as it would not make the lights act different except one specific case. Although the more upward angle of the factory setup is now more downward perhaps making you less visible. I intend to fuse in my own relay and tie in on the drl side of the diode on my single wire. Yes diode was so unnecessary .

drl module gives resistence on ground pole only. it means you should connect only 1 +(positive) pin from your headlight to hid ballast, and use any ground connection insted of 2nd pin. and that is all.

Did you need to add a relay wiring harness to your Subaru for the HID's or was the stock setup ok to run them? Thanks for any help.
@TonyTheTruckGuy6 жыл бұрын
The company I got the HID kit from DID supply and recommend using the relay harness but I did not use it and I haven’t had any issues on this car or any of my other vehicles.

Just did this on my 2009 limited edition outback. Worked like a charm. Very nice. Thank you!!! How in the shit did you fit so easily under there though? I was STRUGGLIN DUDE! Lol

Hi, can you explaine me how to do DRL from high beam?
@TonyTheTruckGuy6 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? The high beams should not come on automatically.

I disabled mine as well. I hate not being able to shut my headlights off. Plus I have led lights thanks for the video made it simple for my 2005 outback
@TonyTheTruckGuy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah DRL’s bother me for that same reason
@hadesnuggz3 жыл бұрын
Does this allow you to still turn off/on low beams and high beams separately... Will it throw up any codes? Does it effect grounding?
@TonyTheTruckGuy3 жыл бұрын
So doing this will make the headlights work like a normal headlight switch. Off is off, first click is tail lights and marker lights only, second click is all lights including low beam. Then the high beam switch functions normally to turn those on.
@dianec.77244 жыл бұрын
If my car has c lights will this disable them as well? Cuz I want to disable the only the regular lights , thank you sir
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by c lights? Doing this though just make it so your headlights are not on unless you turn the switch on.

Does anyone know how to disable the lights for 2012 outback
@hooliman7 жыл бұрын
any thoughts on why my driver side HL fuse might be blowing out? I installed HIDs last night, and I disabled the DRLs today but it's still blowing that fuse... seems everything is conmected right. I have to check again but I'm wondering if the fuse was already blown before I installed HIDs cuz my headlight went out. Just don't know why as I haven't changed anything before hand.
@TonyTheTruckGuy7 жыл бұрын
h-man - So BEFORE you installed the HID's, your headlight was out and the fuse was blown?
@hooliman7 жыл бұрын
PkwyDr Sorry. before I installed the HIDs the drivers headlight was out, I hadn't checked the fuse. but, I tested the HIDs last night and they turned on, in accessory mode. however this morning when I turned them on with the car running the drivers side was out, checked fuse and replaced it and blew fuse again. :S
@TonyTheTruckGuy7 жыл бұрын
h-man - Is the fuse you used the proper amperage? If so, try putting the factory headlight in instead of the HID and see if it still blows.
@hooliman7 жыл бұрын
PkwyDr yeah proper stock 15 amperage for stock headlights. I'm gonna try that and see. what a pita
@TonyTheTruckGuy7 жыл бұрын
h-man - Yeah, if you stop blowing fuses then it's something with the HID kit, if it keeps blowing them, you unfortunately have a short somewhere in the wiring for that light.

Do you have any reports of the fog lights not working anymore once the drl module is disconnected?
@TonyTheTruckGuy5 жыл бұрын
I have not heard of any complaints on here and I have not experienced that issue myself. Do they work when you plug it back in?
@panapower5 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTheTruckGuy - I can only turn them on once. Once I turn them off and the regular lights are on the fogs never come back on unless I turn off the car and turn the fog lights back on.
@TonyTheTruckGuy5 жыл бұрын
Hmm. I guess I’ve never turned my fogs off and then back on during the same drive so I’m not sure. Do you have HID’s?
@panapower5 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTheTruckGuy , yes. I just put in hid can bus in there along with LED high beam bulbs. The fogs have always been hid with no problem.
@TonyTheTruckGuy5 жыл бұрын
That’s odd. My only issue is if I have my headlights on and then stall the car, it will only power up 1 headlight unless I turn the headlight switch off and back on again. Might just be something with how the HID kits or relays are.
@james444097 ай бұрын
I think it's kinda dangerous if only the headlights and instrument lights come on and no other lights like the tail lights. Because of the fact people don't always think about turning them on because they think the headlights are on so should the other lights like on older cars.
@TonyTheTruckGuy7 ай бұрын
You wouldn’t believe the amount of idiots I see on a daily basis with nothing but their running lights and dash lights on. No tail lights and no real headlights.

Just tried this on my 05 and blew passenger low beam bulb, I checked fuse and 12v through the fuse so it’s not a power issue
@TonyTheTruckGuy Жыл бұрын
Does it work if you plug the DRL connector back in?
@shane.00829 ай бұрын
@@TonyTheTruckGuyLate response but no they didn’t work after. I took the opportunity to buy Amazon LEDs
@TonyTheTruckGuy9 ай бұрын
@@shane.0082 So it was in fact just a blown bulb? Were you able to successfully run this DRL disable with your new LEDs?

but that beeper dude. I want the real location of the beeper. I think mine is behind the Hot / Cold gauge. I'm going to desolder it when I find the SOB. I couldn't care for all the buckle the buckle 30x or cut your seat belt wires.
@TonyTheTruckGuy6 жыл бұрын
Hahaha right!? I guess I never tried tracking it down but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was built into the instrument cluster or something too.

@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
You mean like your rear window defroster?
@MrUnbekabal4 жыл бұрын
@@TonyTheTruckGuy hey, the rear defroster works great, my suby came with front wiper heaters (kind of like how the rear works but at the bottom of the wind shield, to prevent the wipers from freezing) they haven't worked for about 10 years ever since I unplugged the DRL, no biggie to me though ;)

Ohhhh haha. Yeah mine didn’t have that.

Not enough power for 2 lights sounds like a problem
@TonyTheTruckGuy4 жыл бұрын
No issue with stock halogen bulbs, but I had HID’s which draw much more power to power up the ballasts, which is why the DRL relay can’t keep up.
