How to Disconnect 2007-2008 Honda Fit ELD (Electrical Load Detector)

Here's a quick video for anyone trying to troubleshoot a charging system issue on their 2007-2008 Honda Fit. Taking the ELD (electrical load detector) out of the equation is as simple as unplugging it, and this video shows you how to do that.
I forgot to mention that, with any charging system issue, a good first step is to take your car to somewhere like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, or O'Reilly where they can load test your charging system and battery for free. I had already done that before I got to the point of troubleshooting the ELD.

You'll still want the voltage to be regulated, otherwise you'll cook things on your electric system.

With the ELD disabled or disconnected the Alternator will always run in high current output mode but still within the proper voltage (14.4v). The alternator will put more load on the engine(mostly idle) but you'll get a stable consistent voltage output providing everything else is working okay.

Pull the edges apart to release. It might help to have someone else do that while you hold onto the top

I'd first get your battery tested. The ELD is not a common failure point.

Did replacing the alternator solve the problem?

Yes! This is the one I bought and it's been solid so far (have had it 3 years so far): www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L2RGRC4 I first attempted to just replace the voltage regulator, as that's the part that's actually broken, but it's located inside the alternator. The bolts holding the alternator together snapped when trying to take it apart, so I said "Screw it" and just bought an alternator.

Sadly ,no. Turns out it's the electronics of the alternator- easiest solution is new alternator.
