How to divide a room into 2 rooms

A client had 4 children that were sharing one large bedroom. They wanted to know if the room could be divided into 2 separate rooms. Yes it can. Here's how to build a partition wall to change the layout of your house. The only change I would make is to not scrape the ceiling. I would build the wall and just caulk where it meets the ceiling. Trying to re-texture the ceiling was more effort than it was worth.

Great job my friend, you just gave me some inspiration to do the same thing. We are outgrowing our 2 bedroom home and I want to split this one huge bedroom into two for our daughter.

Good luck! My one bit of advice would be to not scrape the ceiling. It is very difficult to get a match afterwards. Just put in the wall, and put a bead of caulking to seal between the wall and the ceiling - after drywalling. It will hide nicely once painted.

I was thinking of doing this with our master bedroom. So that all the kids have their own room. My husband and I will take the living room, no big deal, BUT how would we add a door with the wall build? The way the layout is, you cannot add a door anywhere but where the wall is. Like a sliding door?

Not sure I fully understand. What you are saying is the only place to add a second door for new room B (the old door would be for new room A) is to put it where the new wall would be, or in the new wall? It's tough to answer this without a picture or a diagram. Is there no other spot on the master bedroom wall to add a door that would be accessible from the hallway? Assuming that there is no room to add another access door (my own house would not accommodate a second door on the master bedroom due to closets etc), then you might have to add a door to the new wall where people entering new room B would have to first enter new room A, then continue on to new room B. This would mean adding a door (swinging or sliding) to the new partition wall. Not sure if I am helping or not.
