As a Brit, I'm going to put in my twopence worth on this topic. Most of the advice in this video is good. There are, of course, very many different British accents. This video is aimed at doing a southern English accent. The part about changing the "ee" sound at the end of "really" to an "i" sound is only if you want to sound like an old-fashioned member of the aristocracy (think Downton Abbey characters or Queen Elizabeth). Outside of this dwindling group, you will hardly, if ever, hear this in a modern British accent - even a southern, "posh" accent (like I have) will rarely do this. Whether to over-enunciate or omit the T sound is more about the remnants of our class system than about where you live. I'm from the southeast of England, and as a rebellious kid I deliberately dropped my Ts and Hs. Now I over-enunciate my Ts, although I still occasionally drop my Hs. People in the same town will do either. Those people who see themselves as "working class" are perhaps more likely to drop their T sounds than someone who sees herself as, or aspires to be, middle or upper class. Also, a person will make more or less effort to appear "well-spoken" depending on the job they do. If you work at the reception desk of an expensive hotel, or as a teacher or a doctor, you are likely to make more effort to ennunciate your T sounds than if you work on a construction site. These days in the UK, whether you see yourself as working class or middle class is more about subjective perception than about wealth or ancestry; there are plenty of "working class" millionaires and plenty of "middle class" people scraping by on a state pension. Generally, though, the advice in this video is accurate, and the presenter demonstrates the sounds very well.

Most of my family are from England, and I started to notice I have a little bit of a accent when I would talk. I was born in America though. I want to change my accent completely, because I love the accent plus, my family came from England, mostly. other half is from France but.... yeah, lol. I love watching these videos to get better at pronouncing stuff in a English/british accent. P.S. anyone else doing this instead of sleeping? x3

@TheActorsAcademy5 жыл бұрын
It truly comes down to practice, in order to quicken the memorization process, but trust me you can do it. I know plenty of non-actors who have memorized lines for a play no problem. Sure it took time, but it’s still highly probable. In terms of discovering your character, it takes practice. You can watch my videos to help you on that, receive coaching, or join my *10 Hour Acting Masterclass* it’s up to you, but just find which option will work best for you :) *The Actors Academy* *10 Hour Acting Masterclass* the-actors-academy.teachable.com

I completely get that lol. I had a horrible memory and it took until marching band for me to be able to memorize things easier. And my civics teacher wanted us to memorize a ridiculous amount of stuff. One thing that really helped me in his class was repetition. Writing pieces of information down and readin over it several times. Now, you don't wanna go and write down a full movie script over and over again in one night. That would be torture 😂. But maybe one day you'll work to memorize scene 5. Try going paragraph by paragraph of your lines.. Write a paragraph down, read it over a few times and write it again. Once you think you've got it pretty well, write it down again, read it over a couple times. Continue to do this until you're sure that you memorized it.. Then try writing it without looking at the paragraph. If you don't have it still,, go back and write it and read through it a few more times.. Once you've got it down, continue to the next paragraph of your lines. Yes, this includes a lot of writing but doing this really helped me sharpen my memory for the class. Try doing it later at night, still when you're able to think but soon before you head to bed. Studying and sleeping after usually helps with memory. I've never worked as an actor but i would think that they would encourage some improve. Now, you don't want to go and change everything lol but if there's some things that you think your character would do that isn't in the script, you could try adding it to see how the director reacts. Maybe talk to your co-stars if you can to see what they thought of it. Hope this helped 😝
