I've, as usual, watched this video several times in order to absorb all that you show & say. You're set of FZ200 instructional videos show off the internet & KZbin at its BEST. I only hope Panasonic realizes your value to them & provides you with whatever they come up with as a replacement camera in a few short months. I'm definitely a better photographer with my FZ200 after watching your videos......Bill in Arizona

Sandra, thanks for the comment, appreciated. I use an Olympus FL36 flash unit however there are a few more models which are Panasonic Olympus compatible. There is a Metz and Nissin gun if you prefer 3rd party alternatives to Panasonic expensive ones. Accessories depend upon your photography. For close up I would suggest a Sigma 52mm achromatic close up lens, a ND4 filter for bright sunshine videos and creating long shutter effects and a CPL filter for nice blue skies and reduced reflections

Yours so professional at this Graham, you have a great voice and look for it. Have you ever worked in promotion or television in the past? If you were interested you should look at getting a community TV station to post your videos as a show for how to use your camera. I'm sure the channel and viewers would love it.

I haven't seen any specs for the new camera ( or only rumoured specs so far) Panasonic normally release in mid July so there should be some info shortly. I'll be hoping it has wi-fi enabled shooting, earphone socket and a auto evf and multi-aspect shooting.

There is a slight pick up of the zoom motor but I always use external mics when I want serious audio. The 12 fps burst mode using a class10 card seems to shoot exactly 12 frames and then stops ( at any aspect ratio/image size ) but I would say the 12 fps is optimistic nearer to 8 i would say. If you shoot 14M jpeg plus RAW it takes about 5 seconds to write the buffer after the image sequence stops. Hope that helps

Love your instructional videos Graham...you do a great job explaining how-to's. I am between the Sony DSC-RX10 and Panasonic DMC-FZ1000. Achieving what your demonstrating here; a slow, smooth and controlled focus pull, is something I am keen to be able to do. Is the same method you've shown here applicable in the FZ1000? I saw your other video where you demonstrated how the zoom ring on the FZ1000 moved in "steps" when rotated slowly. Is that also the case when it is used for focusing? Thanks in advance

It's possible however it is likely to show in the video clip unless you can managed to support the camera somehow. It's not a precise action like you can get with a true manual focus lens ring for example.

Hello Graham and thank you for the quick reply. I tried again and I get to change my area of focus with my foreground and my background with the lever on the side. But sometimes I go over the desired area or I quit too soon. In this case, I correct with the focus button, but this is not very "fluid" I can not determine as you do, my second area precisely. I see your video on the target with the indication "zoom": This prevents surely going too far or not far enough as I do with the method of the lever. Mode, manual focus, once set fn3 function, I understand that I must put myself in AF macro mode, press the focus button and wheel set me on the target area and then return to manual focus. Will it something I forgot? Again thank you to take time for me! Caroline

To be entirely honest, I have since 2006 the DMC FZ30 and before a Canon EOS 5 (not the 5D). Went from a profesional SLR to a super zoom because of cost of a DSLR and the number of lenses to carry but I always missed the quickness to take photo so to replace the FZ30, I started to look back at SLR ( now DSLR), found the 70D and by accident I found the FZ200 and your videos. The lense of the FZ200 is impressive and now. I am puzzled as to what to buy... shame you can't rent them for a week :)

Thanks Graham for the in depth video feature! You did mention that it's better to use this with a tripod for all the obvious reasons. My question is...would this be difficult to execute when handheld? I shoot documentaries and music videos and sometimes use the pull-focus effect on-the-spot (no set up). Thinking of getting an FZ200 asap! :)

Hi I have a question about the camera. I love to use it, but me being unexperienced I have a few questions. One is that everytime I go on button with the camera and the M it goes dark. Not just on the screen but also in the videos. How do I get it to take normal lighting videos again?

Hello Graham. as many of us I find your videos very detailed and of great quality. Thank you for doing all this. Wish all cameras could be documented as you do with FZ200 :) It would be so easy to compare them :) If I may, I would like to ask if there is any noise captured by the microphone when the lens is focusing (either manually or automatically) or can we say the camera is totally silent. Also, have you done any testing on the buffer size. 12fps is great but how long can it last ? Thx
@GrahamHoughton12
@GrahamHoughton12 11 жыл бұрын
As the FZ200 doesn't support exposures longer than 60 seconds plus the equivalent dark time processing this is probably not the right camera for such events. You could set up the camera on a tripod, use an intervalometer to fire every 60 second with a delay of 60 seconds to allow frame processing and then combine the images ti produce 1 composite image, you would see the gaps because of the dark time process

Hi I just purchased the FZ200. I thought I understood that this camera can take still shots while recording video. Is this true and if so how do I do this? Thank you.
@GrahamHoughton12
@GrahamHoughton12 10 жыл бұрын
Hello Elizabeth, yes it can record stills (at 3.5megapixel size) during video recording in iA and PASM modes. You start recording with the red record button and you can shoot a still with the shutter button during the recording. If you select creative video (video camera symbol) then the recording is started and stopped using the shutter button and cannot be used for stills recording in this mode

PS: Of course, I assume a high performance SD card is used to test the buffer size so the card does not become the bottleneck

Firstly, thanks Graham for all your video's to get the best from the FZ200. Best on the web! But, can you make a video showing the cheats method to get timelapse please. I have spent quite a few hours looking at your vids and cannot find if you have already done it. If not, please make one as its quite a nice 'hack' ... I figured it out from a post on another camera on a website and it also works for the FZ200. It would be nice to have the method in your one-stop collection Playlist. Rotate the mode dial to Creative Control, and in that set Miniature. Then depress the Video button to start taking video. If you have an empty SD card and a full battery you can get about 2 hours of 1080p video. The thing is when you play the video it is at about 10x speed ... a timelapse in effect! You can then load to KZbin and use their video editor to speed it up even more and of course, it will all be in 1080p HD. There's no sound as it would sound 10x speed as well, so the hack is solving that by simply not having any sound at all. It saves the traditional method of taking hundreds of still frames and using various packages to load them all and compose them all into a video, and also saves from fiddling with all the output/export formats and sizes etc from those packages. I think its a pretty neat way to shoot a timelapse. The miniature effect is not too pronounced and I am sure with your expertise with the camera you'll figure out a way to counter that effect anyway! Cheers

Nice "trick", Gram!, tho' in my opinion anything goes. And it seems quite a logical extension of the camera - I congratulate you on your thinking! This method makes sense, or at least to me. I don't think anyone at Panasonic thought of it - but then again I hear Olympus is still learning what IT can do with their 5-axis stabilization system on the OMD-5 the Mark II & OMD-1. Maybe Panasonic will rewrite their manual . . .

hello graham, I try to apply the technique to shoot the first plane to the bottom and vice versa, but I do not. I do not understand English and I try to succeed only with images, but I probably missed something. Is it possible to have help? I will be very happy to be able to succeed. Caroline
@GrahamHoughton12
@GrahamHoughton12 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline, a far easier technique is to set the side levet to focus rather than zoom ( in the set up menu) you can then use it to adjust focus whilst you are filming. You still have to practice the start and stop points but it is easier than using the top control dial or the navigation buttons as you get a much steadier result.
