How to do a split for non flexible people?- Step By Step Injury free
Are you trying to get to your first ever split?
Do you always consider yourself as non flexible and always stiff?
Don’t worry in this video i’ll show u some safe and spilt exercises that will help you get to your first ever split
If you are starting a new sport that requires you to do a split, dancing, aerial silk, figure skating, yoga, MMA or maybe you are just trying to be more flexible that this is what we are going to show you now
Dying to do the split? Before you embark on the (possibly grueling) journey to split-ability, you should know that it's not just a cool party trick-being able to do the splits also comes with some real fitness cred.

I’m 17 and a guy I have terrible flexibility, I can’t touch my toes with a straight back, My full split is barely a 90 degree split. Is it possible for me to learn the split with such terrible flexibility?

I did not do a split but I did go way far down to a split than I ever have and in a few weeks of trying I might be able to do a split 🥳🎉😁😁

I feel like I hit a plateau with flexibility. I have the soreness from stretching for 1-2 days after each time I stretch, and I'm not making much progress. :(

Do you have recommendations for easing into that hip opening exercise? I can’t even come close to being upright while having my knees at opposite 90 degree angles.

Hi, Melanie, great video, thank you for the tips! I was doing most of the exercises you showed and had very good progress. 2 months ago at the end of a mobility workout I was trying to get into the splits and as I was like 2 cm from the floor the hip of my front leg poped. It was right under the butt and it didn't hurt at all, but was scary because of the sound. By "pop" I mean like when you crack your knuckles, not like popping out of the socket. I did not push down, I felt I was going very slowly... The day after my leg hurt a lot and a physiotherapist told me that I had torn a small bundle of muscle fibres and I am recovering slowly. I think that they tore because the "pop" allowed me to drop the last 2 cm before my muscles were ready. My question is - what is up with that pop and most importantly how do I make sure it doesn't happen again? I am really scared to try the splits again, even on the other side...

Hi Melanie, I wanted to say/ask you. So basically I’m trying to do the side splits not the middle one and I’m about 5-10 cm of the ground for like 2-3 weeks, I stretch every day as much as I can because I want to get the splits but I don’t seem to get further to the ground anymore every time I try pushing my self down it’s just pain, for 2-3 weeks. some people do the middle splits easily but I am no where near to the middle splits but near to the side splits, but as I said I wasn’t getting further after I reached 5-10cm of the ground unless if I push further it’s pain, also after like a week of doing this my legs really hurt when I try and go down, any tips or reasons why this is? Although I find most of these stretches easy like the side split one were one leg is bent I got it straight away and also the sofa one, but the only one that was hard was the middle split wall one, I do find this video very helpful thank you so much!

Always stretch within your pain limit and don’t rush progression. Many performances art artists take years of strengthening and stretching before they even attempt spilt exercises so don’t be inpatient:) also depend on what’s limiting your moving it’s really hard to give specific exercises that will best suits you unless I know what’s the cause that is limiting your movement :) We have a whole playlist for performance art related videos. this video might help, but make sure u check the rest out too, even though the title might not fits I’m sure there are exercises and tips that will still be helpful for you :) good luck

I’m doing pole, silks and hoop so they all require a lot of active flexibility. My hips are really tilted so it’s hard not to go forward as my hip is naturally titling away. Also one physio told me that my leg bone sits a bit to the side on my hip so much as I can pancake easily, the leg almost ‘pops to the side’ 😩😩😩😩 so frustrating with added tight hip flexor that I can’t stretch properly due to tilted hips

when it comes to the inner thigh stretch, is there a risk of accidentally stretching a ligament instead of the inner thigh? i feel a stretch on the inside of the knee for some reason..

Mmmm if you over stretch yes, u want a gentle stretch not too extreme till you torn something :) good luck

I have one question.. what will happend at our muscle when our teacher ( dance teacher,sports etc) just push our body down to make a split?? Did that thing have a side effect on our muscle???

Yes need to be careful with that one if you are fully warm up it will be less dangerous but either way try to know your limit and say stop when you think your body can’t handle it :)

As often as your body can cope? Stretching for spilt is quite uncomfortable so it really depends on each individual:)
