I once read a book about Indian baby massage and it is so wonderful to connect with the baby. I was amazed at how the child changes with massages! I slipped away from it with my third son but I think I will try again. He's 3 now and still is excited about the chance to get a massage! I loved how they had a pattern, that helped me know what to do and the child to relax.

Dhanyavaad. Thank you so much. Watching this video I can now do massage at home too ! As a Keralite who has always accessed Ayurvedic treatment while growing up in India, I find that living here in the States now for 53 years, the only way I am managing an active life is because of continuing that life style that includes oil massages. I wish more massage salons would take up Ayurvedic massage techniques and use dosha oriented herbal oils.

Thanks for commenting! The right oil depends on one's primary dosha and state of balance, but we generally recommend our Daily Massage Oil as a good place to start. Hi! I have a question regarding to a tip you have given at the end of the video. You mentioned to apply shampoo before wetting your hair. I assume this is to get all he oils from the massage out first and then dilute it with water to continue the washing. But if this is the case, it means we need to shower AFTER doing this self massage. But if what I assumed is the case, why would we do this on uncleaned body? Or we need to just wash our body first, do this massage, and then wash the hair ?
@banyanb.8953
@banyanb.8953 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Ckdia, thanks for asking! It is not necessary to shower before applying oil, because oil is actually helpful in cleaning the body. Some argue that oil is more skilled at cleansing and balancing the hydration of your skin than water, and it is a closer match to the skin’s natural outer layer. You can read more about it here on our website: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/blog-the-banyan-insight/details/why-you-should-wash-your-face-with-oil-instead-of-water Also, this article goes more in-depth into the practice of dry shampooing to help wash the oil out of one's hair: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/blog-the-banyan-insight/details/how-to-get-oil-out-of-your-hair

If you're almost evenly split between two doshas, do you alternate oils made for each constitution? Or, what do you suggest?
@banyanbotanicals
@banyanbotanicals 6 жыл бұрын
As a general guideline, we recommend focusing on the time of year and your surrounding elements. In Ayurveda, there is a season that corresponds with each dosha. Fall and Early Winter are considered Vata Season, Late Winter/Early Spring are Kapha Season, and Late Spring and Summer are Pitta Season. Therefore, if you are Vata Pitta, it might be wise to use warmer oils like Sesame during fall and winter, and once the weather starts to heat up, to switch over to something more cooling like Coconut. For more information on managing a dual constitution we recommend visiting: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/prakriti-quiz

Hello and thank you. What would be best oil for spider vains ?
@banyanbotanicals

Thanks for watching! There are many great Ayurvedic massage oils out there with a wide range of benefits, but the topic of spider veins is outside of our scope of knowledge. We recommend working with an Ayurvedic practitioner or dermatologist to find the best course of treatment for spider veins.

You can do self-massage daily if you desire! If you don't use a lot of oil, you don't have to bathe after, but a nice hot bath after a massage can be extra soothing on sore and tired muscles. Hi! Would you recommend abhyanga in the summer when it's already hot and humid? If yes, what time of the day and with which oil? PS: I live in a very hot and humid part of India

Yes, you can do abhyanga during the summer. Use a cooling oil like coconut and maybe do it at night when it is cooler. You can also focus the massage on just the parts of your body that needs attention.

I love doing this type of massage it really helps me relax but what should I do about the pimples I get on my back from it? I shower afterwards and use soap. I’m using grape seed oil at the moment. Would you have any advice on how to avoid congesting the skins while doing this massage?

Hi Kiona, I would try exfoliating that area and see if that improves! You could also try dry brushing www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/blog-the-banyan-insight/details/what-is-ayurvedic-dry-massage-and-why-you-should-try-it/

Which one is most beneficial lubricant for massage? Oil or Cream? In terms of tonning muscles, rejuvenation and overall health benefits. Please answer in details

Hi Pasha! While certain creams can be moisturizing, oil has a better effect on the body in the ways you mentioned. Oil has a special affinity for the skin due to its thicker texture and hydrating properties. Thank you for tuning in! Creating a habit to practice abhyanga regularly is the most supportive. Daily can be too daunting for many, but whatever you can manage in your daily, weekly, or monthly schedule for regular frequency will be best for you.

Many people find abhyanga very relaxing and so prefer to do it before bed. Others do it after working out, or a quick one to energize for the day. Play around and find what is best for you!

What's the reason for applying shampoo before wetting the hair?
@banyanbotanicals
@banyanbotanicals 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! The shampoo will more readily cling to the added oils in the hair if done prior to wetting. Otherwise, it will only lather with the water and won't release as much oil from the hair.

I was advised to start my hair wash with wetting my oiled hair but you say the contrary. Can you explain?
@banyanbotanicals
@banyanbotanicals 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! In our experience, applying shampoo before getting hair wet is more effective at removing the oil. However, we understand that that isn't always the case with everyone and encourage you to experiment with it and find what works for you.
