How to Do an Invisible Join for a Crochet Blanket | Invisible Seam Crochet Tutorial
CROCHET joining technique: In this video I share a joining method that is virtually invisible. This is ideal if you are wanting a flat seam to join your crocheted granny squares. This is also a great technique if you are trying to join pieces with multiple colors of yarn.
Tutorial: 1:15
How to join corners: 8:00
I mention the magic knot in my tutorial. Here is a link to see how to make it. This knot will NOT pull apart on you:

I used Stylecraft Special DK yarn in this tutorial. If you are trying to find this brand in the US, here is my resource:

Thanks so much for this. So many video tutorials show one aspect of a technique and leave one to figure out the rest. I was afraid you were only going to show us how to join two squares and then say "good luck!" and send us on our way. But you showed us how to join four squares together and once we know that, we can do the rest. Great tutorial. Can't wait to get this afghan, that I have been working on and off for a couple of years, finally done!

My granny square blanket came out more beautiful than I could have imagined. The invisible stitch is just that...invisible! Now I'm working on a blanket with various colored squares using the grit stitch and I will join them the same way. So happy with this invisible stitch.

You're my new hero! I have been crocheting for about a year. I have only done bigger pieces, with no need to join. I am doing my 1st hexagon blanket but each one has a different color yarn on the out side. It didn't dawn on me how I would join them till I saw this! Thank u!!! I also adore your sense of humor 😆 I smiled and laughed while learning 😄that's always a plus!❤

I have been watching to learn how to do this join forever and you😅 are a great teacher! It is very forgiving even on blocks that are NOT a granny square. I found that it even works along the selvage edge which is one reason I always put a border around the blocks. It is VERY forgiving and I know as I practice more I wont see the joins at all. Right now I am making a mistKe or two on the selvage edge but no-one will notice. Thank you so much 😘💕

I didn't want to undo the part of the scarf that I had made which measured over 200 half DC so I made a new piece of scarf an additional 60 half DC and with the invisible stitch it hardly shows where I stitched it together on both sides. @PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 3 жыл бұрын
Has the end come unraveled or just starting to show and she has to clip it or try to tuck them back in? This rule of three will keep Them from unraveling because your end is going on 3 opposite directions. Along with the rule of 3, I would recommend that you do quite a long tail and that your last portion of the tail is tucked into a nice meaty group of stitches. I hope that helps

I was thinking on joining squares vertically first so that I have a long strip and do the same for the rest of the squares. Then crochet the vertical strips (each of mine will be about 60" long) together. I don't know (yet) how that will work with the corners of each four squares (you had a circle). Maybe pause for the circle and then continue down each square of each vertical?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
Sure, you really can do it however you like. I started with a horizontal strip and then for the second “strip or row of squares” I would join one by one to it moving from right to left (no specific reason, it just felt comfortable). But joining several vertical strips would certainly work. I trust that once you start working on it, you’ll find the perfect rhythm for you. There’s not a right or wrong with this 💕🧶

I outlined all my squares in a tan color. So if a joining stitch or two get sloppy, you can't tell. But, as I join, it gets easier and makes more sense. I finished joining the squares for one row of 10. Not perfect...but once square is joined, I think it will be okay. I plan on a ruffle edge when all is done.

Oh that’s a shame - I’ve never had that issue before, very surprised to read this .😕 I have several videos on how I weave in my ends but I’m not sure it would have been different from what you did. My only suggestion would be to add a little knot before you do your final weave in of the tail 💕

@@PlayHookywithMe Thanks so much for responding so quickly! Yeah i figured it might've been because i didn't weave the ends in tight enough or secured them with a knot. Will definitely do that from now on, thanks for the help!

When you buy your yarn in order to make a blanket using granny squares, which yarn is it easier to work with? Do you use bulky? Acrylic or cotton, and which weight of yarn?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe Жыл бұрын
Great question… I prefer using a weight 3 or 4 yarn with a 4mm hook (even if it’s a weight 4 I prefer the smaller hook size of 4) . So a light worsted to worsted is my personal preference . Acrylic is perfect for granny squares because the color choice is through the roof, washable and allergen friendly. Cotton or a cotton blend is great too. I like the stitch definition of the cotton but i would recommend you choose a cotton blend because it’s softer and easier to work with. Cotton doesn’t have much stretch to it on its own so it can really be hard on your hands. Hope that helps 💕

Can you use a crochet hook instead of a needle? I only have a hook, so I was wondering if it's possible.

Could I ask how you get the sides so neat.Is it a border?My squares are all wavy .
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 3 жыл бұрын
I often find I have to omit chains in my squares to help with waviness. For example if a patterns calls for 3 chains in a corner, I might only do 2. For this pattern, I skipped the chains between the “granny clusters” (3 dc groupings) that are usually in granny square patterns. That the biggest tip I can give - omit chains when you can . 💕

Do you knot the ends or just leave it loose ?
@PlayHookywithMe
@PlayHookywithMe 2 жыл бұрын
I usually don’t knot the ends. I just make sure they are long enough to weave in very well. Knot them, though , if it makes you feel more confident with it 👍🏻🧶💕

Just weave it in ... I like to do 3 passes ... weave to the right, to the left and then to the right again. This way no matter how much it is pulled or washed , it won’t come out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqKQapJ4d8lsatU

Thank you 💕 this is style craft special dk yarn. I ordered it from lovecrafts.com . I initially bought a pack from attic24 in the UK called sweetpea. It was for a blanket project but I use the yarn to make my own squares. This was many years ago but she still has the blog post available., You can see the colors here but you can order them at love crafts individually. You don’t have to buy her yarn pack 👍🏻💕 attic24.typepad.com/weblog/sweet-pea-blanket.html
