How To Do Chippy Layered Paint Technique

I take an old chair and layer three colors of Sweet Pickin's Milk paint, wet distress it and seal it with a brush on furniture wax. I also paint a lamp and two metal cabinets.

Really cool guys. The paint technique is amazing. To let off steam I also do crafts... paint furniture, thrift, macrame, loom weaving, and renovate homes. It really helps to get rid of stress. I wish I could do it full time and quit my job. Although I love my job... i don't get the satisfaction I do from using my talents.

Hey Jami! I wet distress 90 % of all my pieces. I use a large bowl of water with a sanding sponge, it works great. Just keep wringing it out. Then after I wax I buff with a shoe shine brush. It makes quick work of any job. Love the videos!

I've used the water at on the wet paint before on my paintings I love it I made great Skies with it water is great with what acrylics and chalk you did a great job on those items. To relax I read, or paint I love to create. But I have to work to pay for our home.

While spraying is fast, brushing is satisfying. I would rather brush. It satisfies my artistic needs. Also, long time ago when chalk paint came out and I couldn't afford Anne Sloan I used what I had on hand to make chalk paint, which wasn't plaster of Paris, but something similar, and I hit the jackpot after experimenting with different consistency's. I usually use a razor blade to distress hard edges, but I like the wet putty knife technique. Usually if I let the paint to cure for too long it is very difficult to distress and get the paint off.

Hey Jami, love these items. I’ve gotten some milk paint from you and want to try it on an outside metal little table. Do you suggest to use some extra bond for first coat than add second color without it. Also, my go to relax time is crocheting...it’s my favorite pastime. You had a pillow you paid $60 for and I know that was a perfect price. A lot of work goes into that. It was a gorgeous pillow. Thanks for your videos

Thanks! For the milk paint. Extra bond on the first coat is the recommended method. If you don’t want tons of chipping just use it on the first coat. If you put it in the second coat it can reactivate the first coat of paint and it can cause it to chip a lot.

If you apply wax first, then can you apply on top of rhe wax any clear coat paint.

It’s not recommended. I sometimes do it if I know the wax is very cured or sometimes if I’ve done some dark waxing in the details to bring the color out.

How well does the chalk paint stick to leather? I've got some projects coming up that would be crazy handy if I could use gunmetal to repaint the leather. It would mostly be used on a hat.

Jacob Vester I have always had it stick well just clean paint sand and seal. It's slick and not crunchy and it doesn't come off

bethanee, Thanks for watching! The brush I used is the Zibra chisel brush (it's on our website) I love it, the brush holds a ton of paint and it's also great for dry brushing if you need that too.

Lori O extra bond is an additive for milk paint that keeps it from flaking and chipping off as much as it normally would. Add enough extra bond and milk paint doesn’t get chippy at all.
