Usually de ashi barai is placed on a lateral move, much more difficult on a forward move and moreover on a backward one. But all is possible if it is your special.

Lateral move makes it Okuri Ashi, not de Ashi. De Ashi Barai translates to forward foot sweep, hence sweeping as their foot advances forward 🙂

Don’t know much about judo but is this throw unique because you are attacking a leg with no weight on it whereas Osotogari and a lot of other judo throws your opponents weight is on the leg your trying to sweep?
