Thank you SO much for this. Our rental has this. We had to have plumbers get into our walls and the maintenance crew doesn't know how to patch our texture. They didn't sand the joints down and did teeny tiny knock down orange peel and the patch looks AWFUL. I'm going to practice doing this myself and fix it so it doesn't look awful anymore.

I've done skip trowel a number of times and it went great... but in my house, they messed up the drywall... I didn't want to skim it. so to limit my work in the living room, I did large skips one way. Mid skips the other way. And a light skip like a knockdown over that... I love the way most of it turned out. I painted it mocha... I told my wife it looks like we live in a mud hut.. but white trim makes it pop. But it was hard to get the first skip right going over a sandy texture... but I also added sand to my mud. My walls were really bad before, but now I am loving them.

Yes there's a lot of variations in skip trail heavier lighter multidirectional double skip sand skip the best way if you're trying to do it just practice makes perfect on this over and over and over the right mud consistency the right knife everything comes in play to get the right texture for skip trowel myself I like lighter skip trowels than the heavier ones

MyDrywall. On new drywall do you have to skim coat before skip trowel? or can you skip trowel directly on new drywall?

its redline - only sold drywall suppliers - i use on skip it basicaly a topping mud- reg joint compound would work
