That method is not recommended as it often leads to long-term vocal health problems. Use methods that rely on auditory feedback instead. The reason the "swallow & hold", method is dangerous is because swallowing engages a lot of extraneous muscles not meant for prolonged engagement. The goals of the swallowing motion are counter-productive to speech: at the peak of it, the airways are closed, so no food and liquid particles can enter the lungs (this should be a hint that learning this motion is not the best idea for something that requires constant aifrlow, that is speech...) Similarily, since there's no auditory feedback for this method, a lot of people will also fall into the trap of engaging false vocal folds - that's bad news and can also lead to long term vocal health problems. Plase, do not train this way - there are far better/safer ways and you can research them around the web. As of now, look for training centered around the balance of vocal size (that's more or less the "resonance" part) and vocal weight. And remember: this kind of voice training is not about muscle strength. It's not a weight-lifting kind of training. The goal is the opposite: it's about finding the optimal muscular coordination that requires no muscular effort. If you are training with the mindset of making the muscles "stronger" somehow or you are focusing on physical motions of larynx, you are on a bad path already.

@@mattyhbu Yeah voice changers are complete BS. I bought 2 of the professional ones and have used every free one. Even the best ones sound robotic and off. I'm still impressed though how far they can take your voice, especially when it comes to timbre, but it's nowhere near passable. Also the delay is awful. I sometimes get a 2 second delay which makes it sound like you have really bad internet. Even though it's hard to train your voice, I hope you still try it if it's something you want to do! And annoyed, but only at myself because of how easy it was to actually make that possible. I used the Kermit method because I’ve been doing Kermit’s voice for LITERAL YEARS and just never thought to drop the voice and raise it a few pitches. The one component that I was missing was staring me in the face the whole time. Regardless, thanks for making this video. It was a great help!❤

This has been quite interesting to learn all of this. So much I might start practicing these techniques as I've always been making random noises with my voice for a long time and very recently doing some novice beatboxing. Voice lessons aside, I swear I was hearing a little of SwaggerSouls from your voice at times. I really think you could portray Swagger's voice really well if you'd be interested doing that. Damn, I've only recently discovered Druew's channel and I thought he was the absolute cleanest female voice I've ever heard on here, and I know Lonely's and Trapman's voices (and among others only by proxy) that are all really good in their own right. However, now you are definitely another contender that could be a match for Druew with just a little bit more practice. But _on top of this_ you are an impressionist?! Absolutely talented! P.S. Love your Ryan Reynolds; never heard anyone impersonate him before. Then again, I don't know many impersonators.

6:27 One thing I can also add to this, is that your posture can affect your voice *HEAVILY*. A good way you can demonstrate this is by trying to do a high-pitched voice with the posture most males tend to have, that being a slouched, hunched foward type of posture, and then comparing it to standing up straight. (A good way to check that you're standing straight is to stand up against a wall, if you're standing correctly the only parts of your back that should touch the wall are your head, your upper back near the shoulders, your butt, and maybe your heels.) As someone who pretty much can't do high pitches because when I went through puberty I refused to let myself do high pitches so I wouldn't have voice cracks; when I stand up straight I actually can do high-pitches again. You can even see in the video here, 6:33 that he's doing a consistent tone, but whenever he leaned forward or faced down, the pitch of it changed. Figured this out from a bunch if Trans Male-to-Female Voice training videos, as well. One more helpful tip for the voice training part of this, while trying to get your voice to be able to go down and up a scale is a helpful part of training your voice, that's not what human speech is, so while training your voice don't just practice the scales, also try practicing reading things in the voice your working on, while I've had difficulty trying to find scripts to read in voices, theres always at least one tried and true option of just reading at least the first few lines of The Bee Movie Script. As well, when you're practicing scales it can be helpful to interupt between going through the scale up and down by just saying a sentence in your normal voice so that you can help train yourself to get used to switching between the voice you're trying to work on and your "normal" voice. If you still need some help after this video and the plenty of tips in this videos comment section, just try looking up some trans male-to-female voice training forums and videos, they're where the bulk of my knowledge comes from when it comes to training yourself to have a more feminine voice.

As a MtF I've watched hundreds of hours of vocal training at this point and this is one of the best crash courses with some of the best insight I've ever seen in a video. This video is probably the most helpful video in the most digestible way I've seen yet and will definitely suggest it to my trans friends. My one advice that really helped my voice pass is to practice a "sing-songy" cadence. I used to have a very nice soft, high pitch voice; but it didn't sound very feminine until I started ending my sentences with upward inflections and working on an "up and down" intonation through my sentences. Also great advice (which is very difficult) is confidence. Girls have every kind of voice, deep dark raspy or high pitched soft etc; the best way to have a passable voice is to own it. Confidence really comes through in your voice.

@lvl99dh2 жыл бұрын
This is really common (lots of vocal training people tell you to start off doing a higher pitched voice than would be natural) I think it's cause the pitch shifts the area of your throat you're using. So with a very significant pitch shift your brain is operating in a mostly new area where you're writing all the rules as you're learning, but when you bring the pitch down closer to where your voice normally rests you have to use a lot more control to fight against your instincts and Not use the resonance and breath level that might be more comfortable. It's just something that takes practice, you've got this!

As a 'weirdo' who did voices in school but kinda fell off I'd like to add another point to the list: mindset. Learning this stuff is like exercise/weight training for your voice. Its not going to happen overnight but you have to stick with it if you want results. What is a bit more unique to this however is judgements, on some level what you're doing is always going to be 'weird' no matter how good or bad you get at it. Others might judge you for it negatively and then on some level that thinking can influence you too if you let it. It's a bit like the novice voice actor who is afriad to use their full range because they think someone will hear them (e.g. Shouting) and judge them harshly for it. Be respectful and practice at reasonable times obviously, but the rest of it really is a case of learning to not get too bothered by others judgements. Failing to do that will literally mess with your progress and quality.

However, i probably should drink way more water bc i scream to ice nine kills songs so that doesn't help, you want your voice to be able to essentially vibrate as easily as possible, metal screams don't help with this lol.

I was speaking female voice 24/7 for about 6 months constantly and now my relaxed male voice sounds like "female is trying to parody male voice" (my friend words). Not as if I was sad with that, ofc, just funny.

@@vergl569 Your muscles get stronger, and he probably means that everytime he talked, he used the female voice, not that he had the larynx up 24/7

@@AriGatoVT Ye ik I actually first said every time he talked and not having the larynx up 24/7 but then I got unsure about if he talked every day in a female voice like at least once but not every time he talks But I mean yeah muscles do get stronger but at least at the beginning it must be very hard
@AriGatoVT2 жыл бұрын
@@vergl569 While I haven't tested it yet, I believe I could have the larynx up 24/7 (excluding while sleeping of course), and I can't even do a female voice yet, after training the larynx for a few days, it becomes ridiculously easy to maintain it up, the hardest would totally be to remember to keep it up. If you are struggling, you probably are tensing some unrelated muscles; I used to do the same, but after a while of trying to relax the throat while having the larynx up, I got the hang of it.

It's still not great but it sounds passable. Definitely needs a lot of practice with the accent. I can't confirm that you are not using a voice changer.
