How to Do the Whip and Tongue Graft!

A highly effective method of grafting. It essentially locks your scion and rootstock together, thus increasing the likelihood of your graft taking! The graft looks dangerous, but don't be deterred. If you practice some knife safety techniques, everything will be fine. First part of the video was recorded on September 19th, 2020. The graft took about 27 days to show signs of life.

You should use a piece of plywood about 3 by 3 in with a hole in the center so you can slip your Scion wood through that as you're doing your cut so you don't cut yourself. one question I have, the Scion wood that you took from the tree you said it was two years old is that particular tree already fruiting???

That’s a great idea Ariel thanks for sharing. That tree flowered and fruited this year but i took the fruit off because i want the tree to focus on growing bigger. I’ll let it hold fruit next year

Hi, did it grow one more flush since then? Instead of shoelace i use duct tape cut into 1/10 inch width, and for the first fixing i use very thin rope.. So you graft mango from april till october with higher success rate, fine. I did one mango graft on a warm august day, i did not wrap it, and it dried out in 4 days. Maybe in august i should leave it in almost full shade, or when it is in full sun cover it with nylon, and some alufoil... Cant wait to see your graden tour update video:)
