The best advice I received to get to transcendental state is : DON'T SEEK A RESULT ! The more you push to get to a result the less probable you will experience something, and the more you let go of any will/whish to get a result, the fastest and intense it will happen. In summary : abandon the thought that you are there using your time for a purpose to be fulfilled. You are not meditating to ”do and get somewhere”, you are meditating to ”not do”, you are meditating to "BE without doing / thinking anything". That status of mind requires to stop wanting, stop feeding your brain with thoughts, so that you experience the incredible calm and inner presence of yourself without thoughts. When this happens you will feel in paradise, literally. Much much better than a good smoke, because natural ... about paying for TM, it is not needed, you can learn by yourself, but it's true that a good coach can definitely help. I have paid and I have ZERO regrets for having spent that money, more : because I paid, it pushed me to do it seriously. TM is the medicine that, without doubts, has helped me the most to fight my anxiety andvget back in balance.

I think a more accurate way to say "meditating to 'not do" is that you are meditating to meditate. It is its own reward, and everyone who does it for long enough knows it. It's not always pleasant- sometimes it roots out things that are more like taking off a band-aid, or pouring the antiseptic on a wound that allows it to heal, and for a while, it's even sometimes unpleasant- but at the end, you healed and feel better. Better than you were before.

I just paid and learned TM about a couple weeks ago. I've had good results a few times. And probably would have had even more good meditations but I wasn't doing them twice a day religiously like I feel should be done for the most benefit. I've noticed that I am more compassionate toward people and that my ego is not as needy as it used to be and I'm not taking things as personally... But my main reason for replying is to set the records trade about the cost. I was given a brochure and it's also online stating that there is a sliding scale fee. If you receive federal assistance they do not charge a penny to teach you. Students Have a reduced rate. I make less than $50,000 annually so my cost is $135 * 4 payments. They go on the honor system, and won't ask for any paperwork showing that your'e receiving assistance or even what your salary is. So please give it a try and you'll probably be very happy that you did.
@Royalewithcheesewithlove4 ай бұрын
About to save you the TM fees. Sit down comfortably, relax your breath for 1 minute, then start gently mentally repeating your TM mantra (can be found online by age typically 2 syllables ). If you get sidetracked just gently return to the mantra. You'll feel your body relaxing/hands and legs gently going numb. Stay in that state for 20 mins, then let go of the mantra then give yourself 2-3 mins to come back to the present moment and open your eyes. You're welcome

As a meditation teacher and practitioner for the past 45 years, and having learned a number of techniques, I do feel that mantra meditation is the best way to practice meditation at this time. I paid $500 for the TM Training (absolutely no regrets), and I teach a 'generic' version in my own classes, using the mantra Ah Hum (this is a mantra that Deepak Choprah also uses). He used to be heavily involved with the TM Organization till he had a falling out with Maharishi, but that's another story. My simple advice to my own students is this: if you are tired of suffering, then make a commitment to sit still and practice at least 20 minutes a day, no matter what. The results will speak for themselves.

Hey dude.I did pay for the course but only to confirm my mantra (which I had already got online..curiosity got the better of me), As you'll see from the mantra table its simply based on age and sex. Nothing mysterious. Someone at one point assigned meaningless word to males and females in certain age groups. ITs not special at all and you can use any meaningless word. Sit comfortably and spend a minute or two finding some calm. I literally say 'lets find some peace and quiet' a handful of times while and this is possibly more important (and has links to nearly everything) slowing your breath down to around the 5or 6 in to 7 or 8 out.) The breathwork alone without any mantras etc will put you into a parasympathetic state. Once you settled simply introduce your mantra along a similar pace to your breathwork (but just find a pace that suits you), I would suggest doing it for as lond as 15 mins but 20+ is better . The reason I say this is I find that after 10 + and certainly 15+ my thoughts and breathing have really settled and I more pften than not find my self transcending thoughts a bit easier (than just doing 10 mins. But I imagine this is different for everyone depending on how erratic your thoughts or state is that day). But. Do not overthink it. When thoughts come, recognise them like a paper boat floating past you on a stream and repeat your mantra again... If anyone feels bad about not paying I always just ask if you donate whatever you want to a local animal charity of your choice. Happy meditating everyone.

Do you ever consider the effects, albeit likely subtle, of sidestepping the organization that supports TM for the lifetime of the student and provides endless free refreshers and discussions as well as pays the teachers who provide the instruction - not to mention the idea of a lineage? If you're "spiritual" - what does it mean to be rebellious against the organization rather than discover your own meditation that works rather than copycat TM or just go with those who've carried the lineage faithfully. And, using Deepak Chopra as an example of rejecting the organization is pretty dubious, is he supposedly an enlightened being or just another guy who meditates, got into some kind of power struggle with TM and makes a lot of money selling his books and products?
@jmact19773 ай бұрын
What absolute twaddle. Using arguments like 'refreshing ', paying the teacher' and discussions to justify not offering potentially millions of people peace of mind is somewhat skewed. Not sure who mentioned Deepak. Just give it away for free and see what happens. Can't believe people who argue against this.

Mantra chanting while doing any type of meditation opens up the different energy centres of the body. Mantra and Tantra science is a part of Indian mythology. I have been practicing TM meditation, Kundalini, Guided meditation since long. Meditation also called ध्यान in India, conscious state of mind, body and soul alignment. Every one should live in meditation and die for meditation. A person who meditates, discovers the internal pearl of the body not the external self. When this self awakening occurs, then even death will come dancing to a meditative person. Om.

You dont chant a mantra with TM! TM mantras for householders are meaningless for a reason, and are used in specific way, according to Maharishi chanting Aum which is Gods name, could lead you to abandoning all worldly ways and you could lose everything materially and socially ,you could end up on the streets or in a cave. Aum and other holy names are for Religious/spiritual seekers only ,but practicing TM mantras will lead you to your real SELF naturally without the trappings and dogma of religions. If you want Religion to find yourself then go ahead, but its a long painful process, and you may not get anywhere, whereas TM, a natural simple technique will be enjoyable and refreshing from the start ,in which you continue to live in the world in balanced way,its up to you.

You have a great vibe about you. I like that you approached TM and have worked with a Mantra. I am a teacher of TM (Independent of the organisation) and I can answer some of your points. The reason the Mantra is not said out loud is because it is a Beeja mantra, otherwise know as 'Seed' Mantra. The Mantra is introduced softly into the mind as a gentle thought. There is no strain involved. We do not link it to the breath or heartbeat on purpose, but if it naturally links with it, it is ok. The process is supposed to be effortless, allowing the Mantra to do it's own work away from our egoic or intellectual efforts. From this the Mantra guides you to Samadhi. The process of the mind going to Samadhi is the Transcendent part. I hope this is some help. Keep doing your thing my friend. You just got another Sub by me.

I studied TM in 1970 from my martial arts sensei (ex SF Army combat instructor in both Korea and Vietnam) who studied with Mahesh Yogi personally. You are kind of guessing here, but you are not far off from the topical things you learn in a 4 day course. There is a lot more to TM, but over the years, I explored many other types of meditation (Pranayana, Kundalini, Zen, etc.) and even sat for weekends with monks at Zen temples in Japan. The main benefit of TM is that it is simple, can be learned relatively quickly, and only needs to be done twice a day for 20 minutes. The mantra is not the main thing, as it is just a point of focus in order to "transcend." Too much is made of the mantra, and yes, anyone can invent their own, but my sensei picked one for me because of the sound, and because the syllables helped to creates a certain rhythm that he felt fit me (he said Yogi taught him that.) I still use it to this day, but there are many other forms of meditation out there people can learn for free or for a low cost. I feel that $200-$300 USD is about what a course is worth, and if you want to buy into a lifetime membership, another $200 would be about right. I would not pay $1,000+ for a TM course and would just take some mindfulness classes - and there are plenty on YT for free.

Hello, I have a question to ask you and that's how were you able to find a teacher and or yogi for meditation, and how were you able to meditate with monks? How does one gain access and the privilege to experience these things in this day and age if you don't mind me asking as I'm interested in spending time with monks living the lifestyle for my own reasons.
@rabukan58425 ай бұрын
@@spiritualseed_2084 in Japan, and elsewhere, access to a Zen temple is not a problem. Monks are open to those who wish to learn and sit. You just walk in, ask to learn, and they will find a spot for you. If you are not interested in learning, they will not teach you. That should be how it is with all meditative arts, all learning. Simple. Meditation is mostly about breathing, and we all do that naturally, but most are not aware of the energy breathing creates. For me, that awareness is spiritual; it has little to do with religion and everything to do with humanity. Enjoy.

I find I can be really grumpy afterward and my sensitivities are really heightened. Remember, it works on all your issues on a subtle level too, amongst things so things needing to be dealt with will come up for healing and processing. I just did TM for the first time just now. I asked chatgpt to help me pick a mantra and "Aham" felt the most right for me. I set a timer for 15minutes and played TM music in the background. I learned not to time the mantra with the conscious breathing but instead focus on the mantra only, and let the breathing flow naturally. 3 minutes in, I was feeling warmth in my hand and then I wasn't feeling my hands at all. Around 4-5 minutes, it didn't feel like I had my eyes closed. I was just in . It's very hard to explain the feeling, but I stopped being aware of my hands and my head. My "vision" that was black of course as I had my eyes closed, expanded everywhere. Instead of "the blackness in front of me", I was just in the middle of blackness, like with 360 vision. I have never felt this in my regular breathing exercises. I lowkey got freaked out with the feeling of so I simply opened my eyes. I feel lighter and less cluttered in just 5minutes of meditation. I'll try it again tomorrow, and also jot down how I feel.

@@bertg5929, so I went through the D. Lynch foundation affiliated organization for TM. I was given the mantra “key ring” I. could. not. EVER. transcend. with. that. mantra! That was 7-8 years ago. I gave up. I did research and no one was doing any actual practical work on TM back then. But I found a guy on YT that does binaural vibrations and I have felt the beginnings of the “void” I call it, after 3 weeks. I searched here because the YT guy told me to “trust my instinct” when I asked about what I was experiencing but I needed concrete answers so I found you. I would sometimes fall asleep and violently jar myself awake believing I was doing something wrong. So you described other similar things I was experiencing so I’m at ease now. Again thank you.

I seem to have much different neuromuscular issues, because all the books and all the forums over the years haven't revealed anyone with the same issues I have. My lifelong adhd was completely cured with meditation, so I have a choice between chronic pain and lapsing back to my adhd life.

As far as I can tell, the only reason to keep a mantra secret so as to avoid the ego attaching to it. It's not like you have to work hard to keep it secret, you just don't say it outloud and simply do not speak of it in general in the same way you would keep all of your spiritual path to yourself. The second its out there, it's a physical attachment, an identity. You become Bert G the spiritual guy who says Om Sha La a lot and that goes against the whole reason of us being on this path.

Wow just did my first try in my room this morning with just a fan on for noise. I tried sha la ohm. It was quite difficult I’ll be honest! My mind definitely tries to go off in different thought directions and I was constantly having to redirect focus back to sha la ohm. Not sure if that is doing it wrong? Eventually my thoughts started taking over no matter how fast or slow I repeated the mantra. It was almost straining to get to the 10 mins and my brain was ready for it to be done, but at the same time I about fell asleep. Maybe next time I’ll try 5 mins and work my way up. It is interesting how challenging that was
@bertg592911 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing this. You are definitely not doing it wrong. There really is no wrong way to Meditate. The more you practice the less your thoughts will interrupt. your brain is like a muscle, every time you bring your awareness back to mantre your practice grows stronger. keep at it, twice a day. Once in the morning and at night. also trying changing your mantra is after a week or so that one doesn't resonate with you. I hope this help.

What if a thought comes to mind that makes me feel a lot of anxiety or sadness? And what if a thought arises but I still listen to the mantra?
@bertg59298 ай бұрын
When thoughts come in that give you feelings just return to you mantre. if you focus on that unstead of the thought the feeling will eventually pass. I know at first it seems like things arent working but the more you do it the less you will feel anxiety from your thougths or you will be able to just let it pass easier. I had this problem when I first started. thoughts would come in while I was repeating my mantra.. Thats when I would stop and slow my mantra down a but so that IU can focus on it fully. I hoped this helped.

Just my two sense, transcendental meditation goes back to Maharshi Mahesh Yogi, They would give you a word or mantra, and it would be unique to each person fast forward to today there are people who are capitalizing off the technique which should be a free teaching in my opinion the word is just meant to keep your mind from wandering, to concentrate I believe until you dont need it or the word brings into your reality the meaning. When you focus on something it comes into your reality.

Imho, do not pay for TM. Mindfulness meditation with breathing will get you the same result, the result being an overwhelming feeling of ecstasy, bliss and calm, leading to an overall more quality life. Sit with your spine straight so your body will breath more naturally with the diaphragm, but keep your muscles relaxed. I recommend keeping your eyes closed and breathing through the nose, but you can try it in other ways more comfortable to you. Pay attention to, but do not "focus" on, your breathing. "Feel" your breath going through your nose, feel your daiphragm working, feel your lungs expanding and contracting, but breathe naturally, don't force it. Try not to "try", don't fight your thoughts, let them come and go like drifting clouds, and ease in to your breathing once the thoughts go. If you do it right, after a while you will feel a surge of warm, positive feelings flood your body, almost like an orgasm, except not sexual in the least. You will also feel as if your body dissapated into your surroundings. It does not matter if you use a mantra or your breath, the point is for your brain to latch on to a calming notion to drown out all of the "noise" up there.

I use " I AM" also. It's the only escape from identification with mental chatter (for me). I've found that patiently waiting for some elusive etherial peaceful state was also an error/ misunderstanding. The mind, or pain body, as some call it does NOT want to be second fiddle. The more we use it to construct elaborate theories of how to attain enlightenment, the stronger its hold. It's like a manipulative child. The more the parent gives in, the more the child ultimately suffers. One can and should "shout" with your whole being ( not necessarily out loud lol), I AM. it is the truest part of you asserting itself into this physical world. You're not asking. You are TELLING: "I AM!!!, so don't try to fool me/block me with any word salad, over-thinking BS. Get out of the way. I AM". ...feel like you are a king or Queen letting your kingdom know that you have arrived and are in charge.

Learning TM is a great experience. I'm happy that I payed for it. You learn A LOT of important things that are not mentioned in any KZbin videos that I've watched, including this one. That is, if you truly want to experience the practice that is known as Transcendental Meditation, it can only be done by receiving proper instruction. You also get access to the TM community, which adds a great deal of value. Everyone that I've met so far has been happy they paid for the experience. You are paying for a valuable skill. It is like taking a course to learn something that will add value to your life. $1,000 is pretty par for the course. That said, you do not need TM to transcend and have a meditation experience that is transcendent. You can most certainly follow the instructions here and transcend on a regular basis. Go for it, I won't dissuade you. But you will be missing out on a handful of key components that I think will create a more robust experience of transcendence. I was personally very curious, especially after hearing about it numerous times on podcasts. And that curiosity would have eaten at me my entire life, unless I just went for it and checked it out. This video closely describes certain aspects of the practice, but this is most definitely not the practice, and is missing some crucial information not only about the meditation, but about how the practice translates to consciousness, both waking and in the mind. You can only learn these things being a part of the TM community.

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and leave this insightful comment. Like i said in the video if you can afford and want to pay someone to help you with this practice, then I highly suggest you do so. With that being said, I have spoken with 3 different monks and a few yogis that all believe you shouldn't have to pay just to know the knowledge, altho If you need someone to help guid you or help you go deeper thats another things. I understand that there is great benefit in paying for programs or trainings but for people who can't afford it or would like to be self taught they should have access to a video like this one. who knows maybe after getting there feet wet they would like to grow their practice and eventually end up paying for the program. Thank you again for taking the time to watch my video and sharing your knowledge with us!

So why wouldn’t you share the knowledge? 🤔 as a yoga teacher, gatekeeping something that is apparently so valuable is very icky to me.

Selfless people who are genuine and care for others and want to have peace and community would share maybe this could be the space or possibly make something just for that we need more ways to share healthy ways of living and help give people the tools not hide them with a price tag on them capitalism at its finest.
@liradorfeu Жыл бұрын
Sorry but the overall attittude of TM practicioners and teachers is clearly based around gatekeeping. There's clearly a generalized atitude of you guys being the gatekeepers of some great secret and the descendents of an ancient lineage of masters and disciples when in fact there's really no great secret to it. It's just a very simple and ancient technique based on the repetition of a sound (vocally or silently) which may or may not have a meaning, that will act on one's mind and allow oneself to experience a higher level of self-awareness. Bija Mantras are no secret. You can find a lot of good hindu sources on it online. I notice that most practicioners also fail to notice how this movemente is 99% western based and how it comes in a conveniently pre-packaged way to suit and cater to western audiences, who are happy to pay their way into "eternal bliss". You pay thousands of dollars for someone to teach you something you could have learned yourself, for free. Personally I think it's a disservice to Vedic tradition the way this TM concept presents itself to Westerners. No skills, no efforts, no dedication, no sacrifice, just 20 minutes a day and you'll reach eternal bliss, hassle-free! Sure.. I'm not denying the benefits of the technique and I can understand why you would need to justify the thousands of dollars spent on the stuff but all of this TM thing is like a dystopian, new age, affiliate marketing spiritual scheme..

They have their own university where you can study and get a degree/Ph.D. TM Org is faciliated by M.D.s and Ph.D's. They fund research on meditation. They provide a great deal of goodness to the world. You're not really paying for just the simple technique, you're paying for the guidance and community, which I found to be tremendously helpful. Like you said, you can easily figure out the technique through your own research. It's more like "if you want access to the community, you need to pay $800 (it's not "thousands of dollars" what are you smoking I want some), and in addition to getting access to the community and instructors, we'll teach you this simple technique." I have full access to my instructor from Chicago. I even moved to Washington, and he chatted on the phone with me for close to an hour about meditation/consciousness/life. These are good people with good intentions. Their presence is very warm, calm, and loving. I don't see the point in focusing on 'what's wrong' with the TM organization. There are so many more useful avenues to direct your energy. It works for A LOT of people, and most people who pay for the technique are very happy to have done so. You don't have to pay them a cent, and you can learn the technique on your own. No one ever said "20 minutes twice a day and you'll reach eternal bliss" lmao that is nonsense that has never been communicated in my experience with the TM org. You are misconstruing the message. The whole point is to experience deeper levels of consciousness, which can be blissful. Yes precicely, "this movemente is 99% western based and how it comes in a conveniently pre-packaged way to suit and cater to western audiences." that's kind of the whole point. To bring meditatoin and higher states of consciousness to the western world and society at large. In order to do that, it kind of has to be 'convenient'. Not sure where you're getting this "eternal bliss" nonsense. That is not part of the communication of TM. "Blissful", yes, that is often said, but a blissful state while or after meditation is VASTLY different that "eternal bliss". Your comment feels a bit overly judgemental for someone who claims to be so intimately involved with the teachings of the Vedas. I would think someone on this path would just let things be and try not to judge. It's something I struggle with, as well. I understand it's human nature to do so. I've honestly never met or heard of anyone who learned the technique and said "that wasn't worth it I want my money back."
