Hinduism and Buddhism has beliefs which are false. So Russell should involve himself into only true beliefs which are supported by sound evidences and facts. Not just because the belief or its explanation sounds beautiful. Like idol worship is an insult to human intelligence which is bless by great one true God. How can human worship something created by their own imagination and reasoning? If I am wrong, then why humans worship computers, mathematics, logic, machines, ai and so on which are intelligent and benefits man more than idols. Worship and praying to idols is wrong because they cannot even protect themselves then how they can protect you. Regarding buddha, buddha says all desire leads to pain which is non sense. Socialist, psychologist and thinkers and philosophers has identified that there are two types of desires or impulse - one more possessive & harmful for humans and other more creative, constructive and beneficial to humans which gives great true pure right happiness. But buddha didn't realise that achieving positive desires leads to true happiness. Read book of Bertrand Russell called conquest of happiness.

I don't necessarily follow Sadhguru, but I will tell you he has this mantra recorded thru, I think it's called Isha, with hundreds of people doing this mantra with some incredibly stimulating drums, etc in background and it REALLY moves me and opens up my chakras as well as getting me in good transcendent head space. AMAZING.

In your head is certainly better than not at all, but my understanding is that the sounds and vibrations they produce in the body are VERY important - they’re not simply Sanskrit translations of a random phrase. It is best to find a guru and at first using a visual anchor to hold in your mind like an idol or a yantra that goes with the mantra. Chanting mentally is best and not getting frustrated or having an intention. Set your attention first and do a simple puja. During japa however just let go of all thoughts, let the mantra be the only thought, no goal, no asking for anything, no expectations, simply tuning into a current of energy which is the mantra. Trust the mantra to do the work you dont need to do anything other than just focus. The only effort is returning the mind to the mantra gently over and over as the mind wanders. Eventually concentration will lead into true meditation as you said the mantra will dissolve and all visualizing will dissolve there will just be void and awareness. Eventually the void and awareness become one and the same

I don't know if many people do this, but aside from just sitting down and going into mediation, either breath or with mantras... but I tend to prepare the space a bit as well, usually involves lighting a candle to place in front of me which I've found helpful to stay in the meditation so even when a distracting thought might get in the way, I can focus back on the candle as a way to kind of hone back into the mediation... I hope this might help people who might also get distracted during mediation. At the end of the meditation, I tend to put the candle out and wait for the smoke to dissipate.

So, Russell, the point of mantra meditation is, it's another thing to serve us? To free our minds, give us peace, focus, bliss, whatever? - which is why it seems it doesn't matter which mantra we might use? But isn't that the very essence of materialistic or illusioned or ego-centric consciousness: its all about me, it's all for me, I'm the centre of my universe? I loved that you first spoke the Hare Krishna mantra ... because that's a totally opposite, or transcendental, offering. It's for centering on, becoming conscious of, God, the actual central point' of all there is, for seeking 'how do I serve You?'

With me, I tend to use the chakra mantras because they're easy to remember and to chant out when you practice in generating the right vibrations in both mind and body. Plus they symbolise each different meaning that resonates different human qualities. They can also be done at any time with or without the meditation through either silent or loud utterances which helps in making them stick.

Turns out what a lot of mantras are doing is activating the vagus nerve, or the parasympathetic system. I find "Aum" does that for me, esp when I focus on the throat/chest resonance, sends me into that deep relaxation state that feels connected to all. Those Yogis knew their stuff.

i do like the mantras when said out loud, because you can feel the vibration and effect all through the spine. I also find that certain mantras will have an effect on how i will feel for the rest of the day. - I held off doing them for a while until i knew what they meant and decided whether that was appropriate for me to use them. They do help - i have a very electric speeding train mind - and i need something with a vibrational tone to calm that stuff. My favourite of your most recent ones is Aum Namah Shivaya. I just really liked how i felt after that one.

I currently practice yoga for roughly half hour to an hour per day, but I really want to start doing a more stationery form of meditation (in addition to yoga) and I'll definitely add a mantra to it, seems like it'll help a lot.

I've been practicing breath meditation for decades and recently decided that I needed something a little more effective on my journey. About three weeks ago, I started NSR meditation which was introduced to the world by the great Maharashi. Yes, same meditation as TM, but less expensive, less ceremonial, and much less mysterious. what a powerfully effective technique. It is a mantra based method and I'm just wishing that I had discovered mantra meditation years ago. In this short period, I've already felt consistent, powerful periods of complete bliss, I feel much more relaxed about my day to day events, and interestingly, my mind feels sharper. I wish everyone in the world would try this... Imagine that outcome.

Very very nicely explained. Sri Chaitanya Caritamrita, Madya Lila chapter six, verse 242 says: "harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva nāsty eva gatir anyathā" "In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy [kali Yuga], the only means of deliverence is the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way" Prabhupada refers also expertly to Bhagavad-gītā (7.28), and furthermore to Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (12.3.51-52): "kaler doṣa-nidhe rājann asti hy eko mahān guṇaḥ kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet kṛte yad dhyāyato viṣṇuṁ tretāyāṁ yajato makhaiḥ dvāpare paricaryāyāṁ kalau tad dhari-kīrtanāt" "The most important factor in this Age of Kali, which is an ocean of faults, is that one can be free from all contamination and become eligible to enter the kingdom of God simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. The self-realization that was achieved in the Satya millennium by meditation, in the Tretā millennium by the performance of different sacrifices, and in the Dvāpara millennium by worship of Lord Kṛṣṇa can be achieved in the Age of Kali simply by chanting the holy names, Hare Kṛṣṇa." What a blessing indeed...

I'm really liking both your channels these days! A topic I would be really interested to hear your take (or do an interview with some wise person) on is aphantasia (lack of any mental imagery), which I ahve. I only realised aphantasia is a 'thing' a couple of years ago, and it made total sense to me years of frustration with guided style meditations. All that imagining doors and gardens and beaches puts you in a really stressful place when you just see nothing with your eyes closed. My husband is a hypervisualiser and now that I understand that when people say "I can picture that' it's not just a turn of phrase, we gradually explore the profound differences in how we experience life and the world. At first I felt i was missing out (as do a lot of people in the aphantasia fb group), but I've come to realise that it's actually easier for me to still my mind, even without meditation. I'm now exploring breath meditation, and I am really drawn to mantras, but find it hard to hear them in my mind too.

So I did mantra meditation for years and it felt amazing until it felt really bad. I think what went wrong for me was that it became avoidant of feelings, the phrases supressed emotions for me and I was left feeling worse and worse until I stopped distracting my mind with TM, and finally could begin actual healing. Now, maybe I did it wrong, I did it the way I thought I was trained to do it. And maybe because of PTSD and trauma it would have gone down a bad route nomatter what I would have done. I still think its important to be aware and feel if you are avoiding emotions, sensations or creating more space. If you suffer its tempting to choose to not feel what you feel and return to the phrase/mantra, ( and we all know how quick an emotion can surface just to disappear again )and I do believe this can lead to not proper processing of emotions, almost like you manipulate yourself into a reality that isnt yours. As Ive said, its very possible I just did it wrong without really realizing it. Just wanted to share! I love what you do!

I truly believe if he did Ayahuasca or shr00ms, he will get even more spiritual wisdom and release from certain issues he might be dealing with (trauma, or anxiety, depression etc), which he could than talk about and help others even more. They aren’t addictive so he shouldn’t consider it as a drug or care if others think of them as drugs. I think he will one day, but is waiting for the right time

I've done a fair amount of hallucinagens in my small time on this earth and from the way he talks and is, it is likely a psychedelic experience that has triggered the change in lifestyle and view for him. I am very sure he has had experience with these ego shattering substances because his understanding is immense. Would love to know and details if so and a trip report of what was experienced. I've seen some amazing things and was a strict athiest before, and now very spiritual. :) Also, I'd say you're absolutely correct about having a positive effect on anxiety, depression and general well-being, it's absolutely what happened for me, however I feel for someone who's had substance issues in the past (as I have too!) It's best to find another way to reach an altered state which he clearly is doing very well with his meditation techniques that he's sharing. That's what I reckon anyway, but I second what you say, I have had some absolute astounding experiences on psylocybin Much love

Despite Bill W been influenced by his own journeys, apparently I feel R, within his beloved fellowship which he shared and received so much healing, & connection from, using psychedelics would not be part of the amendments/self inquiry suggested in the steps.. I don't think either, that he feels de need to.. kundalini, breathwork n other practices I would imagine can bring u to altered states if consciousness and lift de veil.☘️🤟🏽

@@bigsteve6729 hey, he was on the joe roggen podcast, he’s never done them , but is very interested in trying. His insights are from meditation alone , (but for most of us I think it will be very difficult to get to his level with out plant medicine ) That’s why i think he will level up by %100 if he tried Ayahuasca, it will also help get it legalized if more ppl like him talk about how it helped them.
