Lovely drawing, Paul. I really do love sketching. I hate sharpening pencils though! So many times you sharpen and the lead inside is broken! 😡 so now I mostly stick to mechanical pencils. I have been interested in trying these though because of the varying softness of lead. Maybe I’ll have to give them a go.

One thing about hating to draw is maybe you think u do. It is wonderful. I did a sketch of a bar owner and he hung it on his wall behind the bar and always thanked me for it and bought me a beer everytime I came in. So go for it. But I sure understand how you feel. It just takes time to get comfortable with it. I like the Stratford 400 series for sketching. And these pencils will be wonderful. Sounds like they are kinda like a pastel pencil in different shades of black. Can't wait to get some. Now go get you pencil and paper. I can't wait to see what you do.

Your drawing was particularly good and an educational, enjoyable watch! I hate using a grid too when sketching... too mathmatical and it restricts free flowing creativity or interpretation of a scene. Drawing is an important skill. My mum sketched for 10-20 mins most days. A good foundation for most paintings. Yes to the drawing channel. Definitely a worthy watch.

I knew as soon as I saw it that it was Flavigny ! Kind of on my doorstep ( well a 50 minute drive ) and a place l went to as a child, a time when the ' Anis de Flavigny ' were very popular, and it so happens my mother didn't consider them as real sweets so they were not forbidden!! Even though it's out of my reach ( buildings AND lots of details!) I may try this one sooner or later 😉

How do you keep your hand from rubbing the graphite on drawn areas? Is your hand lifted at all times? It looked like your hand was lying on the paper at times. Very nice drawing!

I am relatively new to watercolour painting and enjoying this journey very much! I very much appreciate the time and care you take in showing how to use various techniques. We love your watercolor tutorials. They are some of our favorites on KZbin. The matt finish pencil drawing was great. I guess a drawing channel is coming from all the comments below. Just a thought to save you some time initially.... perhaps you could use some of your most downloaded drawings that you have made available for watercolor paintings and take those to the finish with the matt pencils. Had a friend who did architectural renderings. His process was a rough sketch, then intermediate drawing, and then the finished drawing with great detail, similar to your matt pencil video. Perhaps this might help all with a starting point before the teacher enters the room so to speak.
