Love the “construction dots” & how you give the context of it being a simplification of the Loomis method. This makes so much sense to me. Also I appreciate how you clearly tell us to let the paint dry before proceeding.

Wow, Thank you so much Scottie. You are awesome and I have never seen a better tutorial to analyse and explain in such clear detail, follow the dots, how to approach a portrait of this difficultly. Only a joke about the follow the dots; you make it look relatively easy, at least possible with practice, but your artist skills are amazing. Thank you so much for generously sharing your drawing and water colour techniques. ❤❤❤

Very inspiring! So first of all, it is super hard to do these lines, especially human shapes, in one go without a sketch. The method with the dots is very helpful! :) Second, I love the style, because my own lines are always way too clean and have zero dynamic, while this is the exact opposite. I hope I can learn to draw more more like you. I also just love how these very loose lines and the water colour become something very lively at the end. It's a wonderful process, thank you for sharing!

Such a good tutorial. I particularly love to sketch my cat(s) when they’re on my lap again. Had to move to another place last year and my cats are mostly in hiding or on my lap so I can’t sketch them otherwise, I have sheets covering their scratching posts and furniture because they are very scared and love to hide. I actually moved into a building that was a hair dresser at one point and the window goes outward on an angle, resulting in the curtain being far from the window. One of the 2 cats has realized she is safe there and almost lives there full time but I either live completely visible for everyone to see inside or I don’t see her so I almost exclusively sketch her sister but time and time again she will change her head angle or posture so I hope I can use these tips to have the outline of her posture before time has run out yet again 😂 Also, you have given me a desire to try out sketching portraits with this very clear step by step tutorial with doable steps, with clear instructions on what to focus on (and therefor, what not, I tend to loose myself in the details with everything and already know I need to focus on proportions before the details but this makes it easier to determine which details are the important bits for those rough outlines (out-dots??) and the most crucial part for me is by doing so, you also give me a very necessary guideline of where those important details stop or where they become less important. I can’t do this tutorial now but I have saved it because this really is the best one I have found (although I must admit I haven’t exactly been searching for them because I am at a different stage of my sketching life but portraits and in particular expressions are getting more and more interesting to me so I might not have been looking at a lot of them but your teaching style is so clear and motivating that I don’t really feel the need to search for others for now until I’ve done this one and practice these tips on other faces -as well as cats lol- so thank you)
