Advice from a European (we learned how to drive at school with a manual and most of the cars we drive are manual): your feet never lift completely off the ground: press the pedals while keeping your ankles resting on the floor. This allows greater sensitivity on the pedals and have a better feedback on the car's behavior, as well as using the clutch pedal with greater agility and thus changing gears faster, achieving better rev matching. If it is not comfortable at first, just adjust the seat position until you find a "sweet spot".

As an American I always wanted to learn manual, but my family always settled for autos unfortunately. I'm gonna get a manual soon hopefully to learn it.
@BrosFOURRSpeed2 ай бұрын
Yeah I could see that. I still just use more of my whole leg to press the clutch
@dilanwalters6959Ай бұрын
You mean you keep both your leg left and right leg on the back of your heel? Or just right leg?
@SadullaAlisherov16 күн бұрын
you mean keep your heel on the floor and slip the clutch under your foot? i guess this doesn't work in traffic when you have to constantly press and release the clutch your foot gonna get stuck or you run out of foot position. best way is always lift your feet off the ground before releasing the clutch pedal. everybody have their own style of driving anyways do what works for you

Although I already know how to drive manual, this video was very entertaining and chill. I'm definitely recommending this video to someone who is learning manual. Although I think you should go more in depth with rev matching when braking at a high speed. A lot of beginners struggle to slow down in the correct way. Especially on the highway, I remember when I was learning on an evo 8, I got brake checked, and a pickup truck crashed behind me. I could've switched lines faster if I stayed in the powerband.

Thanks for sharing! I have other manual videos that go into more depth! But most beginners don't need to worry about rev matching and all that right away!

I remember my dad teaching me to drive a stick in a '70 Datsun truck. We live on the top of a hill and I drove it straight into my neighbor's garage at the bottom! My dad had to pull the emergency brakes HARD and we stopped about 6" from the garage wall!!!

Once you get used to the friction zone it gets easier, practice taking off and stopping for a while before anything else

You don’t want to learn or drive manual in the streets when it is rush hour or busy. Do it early weekend when people are still sleeping so you get a feel when you move through traffic signs and merge when making turns. Once you get comfortable with those, you can start driving when it gets busier. Just make sure you perfected the clutch and avoid going through hills lol. I did that during my test drive in a manual focus st, I stalled a couple times lol. If you get a car that has auto rev shift, you are lucky, if not, master it too before you drive in busy streets

I’m struggling guys, brought today a 2025 Acura Integra Type S. My first time driving a manual. I’m going to force myself to learn because I have no other choice. Once I’m moving I’m good. I was able to drive the car home from the dealership with no issues. I’m just having issues once stopped at a red light or Stop sign. I will get it just hope it’s before I burn my clutch up.

@@firemanprice practice getting the clutch take up in a parking lot. Master it, how much you lift your foot off the clutch and when you feel it starts to bite. You dont have to be in 1st gear all the time when stopped, as long as you dont stall (it happens to the best of us) you should be fine switching to 1st gear as soon as few cars in front of you starts moving. Avoid hilly areas if you havent perfected your clutch take up but with Honda, they have the brake hold function unlike in my subie wrx tr but it has the manual handbrake. I want that Type S but too much adm around here. Drive safe and enjoy your ITS!

I just bought my first manual, a manual Elantra N, and I am loving it so far. I am however having an issue trying to upshift from first to second gear. No matter what I do the shift is jerky. Do you have any tips for how to smooth this out? I find that I can smooth it out if I hold the clutch at the bite point for a couple of seconds before releasing, but I feel like this is the incorrect way to do this.
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
1st to 2nd is the hardest for sure. Lots of times it's going to be a bit jerky. Try shifting a bit slower and pressing the clutch right as you take your foot off the gas

hey i know its unrelated to this video but, because i know that you have experienced both, which car is better, is it the Audi SQ8 or the Bmw X5 M60i? Would love to hear your opinion on this

Can you do video driving manual with vehicle with paddle shifters?
@BrosFOURRSpeed2 ай бұрын
A manual with paddle shifters doesn't exist. You are thinking of an automatic and using paddles to shift gears. The one exception is the Chevrolet Camaro, but the paddle shifters are repurposed for rev matching activation.

You don't have to also depress the brake pedal to start the car? Just the clutch?
@BrosFOURRSpeed2 ай бұрын
Just the clutch, but it’s a habit, with the e-brake off, you don’t want to roll while starting it!

I've got the mk5 in automatic. I'm wanting to add a car in the near future that is manual and has more leg room (mk5 has horrid legroom for my size so I couldn't imagine driving a manual supra). l was thinking of something like a shelby gt350, but am wondering if that makes any sense since I have no experience driving stick. Is it better to get something cheaper to learn on first? Not sure.

@@sisko3893 It's hard to say.. I think it really depends on how fast you're able to learn. Once you're good you're good regardless of the vehicle. It's just not doing anything crazy while you learn.
