How to drive spiral roundabouts

This is the best video I've seen on spiral roundabouts. I just can't do them and always but this is good I always end up going round and round, and can never seem to get off the right place. Thanks .

Follow the lane, not the roundabout. I didn't mention this in the video but it's on the page linked in the description along with more info like dealing with roadworks when the lanes are coned off.

Great video, Paul, thank you. You took the fifth exit on the last roundabout, not forth after all. I think the reason they make stubby lines count as exits is because on a roundabout like this you wouldn't normally go ahead, because if you were to go ahead you would stay on the motorway/dual carriageway. It makes it less confusing and saves space on the sign. I think, this applies to roundabouts connecting motorways/dual carriageways. Another thing that indicates that it is an exit is that it shows two small square lines. Indicating the motorway joining from the opposite way. However on a roundabout like this counting exits may only distract you and it is better to go by signs. Although being aware of the exit you are taking is also good.

A good guide, the last one was a bit hard to follow as the lane markings were a bit faded. I have driven fo a long time but always hated coming to one of these I have never been on before. Ok when fairly quiet but a nightmare when packed. Once you become familiar with one they work well. Like the last comment nobody is perfect, we all get it wrong but have to disagree on autos never will go back to a manual. CVT is the best transmission invented.

If we want to go coventry route at round about it shows at 1st exit when you come to 4th exit where you are going for stafford when you coventry is at right lane and stafford us on left lane of 4th exit totaly confused

That's because you're coming from different angles. It would be the first exit at the start and then it becomes the fourth or whatever as you go around. You're not supposed to go around this type of roundabout more than once so if you end up in the wrong lane you're supposed to go where it takes you. You wouldn't go all the way around in a 360 degree loop and then come off at what was the first exit on approach, that makes no sense.

@@1stdrive by watching KZbin videos 🤷🏻‍♀️ i passed first time in August this year. All thanks to KZbin videos. My instructor knew the test route I will get so taught me to drive it really well. On the test route we have 1 large light controlled roundabout. I learned how to take a 3rd exit on the right on it. He did not explain how or why I was doing things, just taught me the lane to enter and how to leave in the overtaking lane by just following the roadmarkins. I did not do a single roundabout during lessons. If you taught in London, I would hire you! :)))

You do not get enough time to look at all the writing on the sign, you pass it within seconds

Yes, the ones in Birmingham by Kings Heath test centre are positioned very badly. You have one second to read them and they're often obstructed by tree branches. The best thing to do is slow down to give yourself more time to read them, if that's possible.

@@1stdrive funnily enough that’s where I’m from lol if it’s quiet it’s doable but with the drivers right up ur behind it is hard to slow down enough, good video though I still struggle with some roundabouts a year on

You only have to look at something for one second to be able to recall it. You can even look at a page in a book for 1 or 2 seconds and read the whole thing back from your mind.
